Gary Barlow reveals surprise link to Andi Peters

Yahoo11-04-2025

It turns out that Gary Barlow and Andi Peters go way back.
On Friday, 11 April's edition of Lorraine, the award-winning musician joined presenter Ria Hebden for a quick chat about the new series of Wine Tour, which whisked him off Down Under this time around.
It was during their conversation that Barlow revealed Peters, who accompanied him in Australia, was one of his "oldest friends."
Barlow told Hebden: "Us Brits love Australia, but I think to get one level beneath the sort of tourism and get into the wine that country makes, it's off the scale."
"I imagine when you're going through your black book picking people to be in the show, I bet everybody wants to be a part of it," pointed out the Lorraine star.
"So we've got Sophie Ellis-Bextor; our own Andi Peters is in this as well! How did he wangle that?"

That's when guest Barlow called back to a period of struggle for his boyband Take That, which was originally made up of himself, Robbie Williams, Mark Owen, Howard Donald and Jason Orange.
"D'ya know, Andi's one of my oldest friends," he said. "When no-one else would put us on TV, this is like 1990, Andi would make any excuse to have us in The Broom Cupboard."
Other celebrity guests set to appear on Wine Tour include Dannii Minogue, Tim Minchin and Ronan Keating.
Launched in 1985 with Phillip Schofield as host, The Broom Cupboard was a CBBC programme where its stars would introduce segments from a tiny control desk dubbed the 'Broom Cupboard'.
Four years into the show's run, Peters and Zoe Ball replaced Schofield and Andy Crane. His time in the studio also saw him working alongside iconic puppets Edd the Duck and Gordon the Gopher.
Peters left in 1993, and once spoke about some of the bold wardrobe choices he made on there.
"I always thought Andy Crane dressed badly, and Phillip too, so I thought I'd try some different combinations. I wore waistcoats a lot, and lots of tartan. And I was one of the people who originated wearing a short sleeve T-shirt over a long sleeve one," he claimed.
"It kind of became a trademark. Some days I even wore a tie! I quite enjoyed changing things and making it different."
Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV1 and ITVX, while Gary Barlow's Wine Tour: Australia premieres today at 2pm on the same channel.

BRIT Awards 2026 to Be Held Outside London for First Time

The BRIT Awards will move to Manchester in 2026 and 2027, marking the first time the ceremony has taken place outside of London in its nearly-50 year history. Co-op Live, the venue operated by Oak View Group, will host the event on Feb. 28, 2026 and be broadcast live on ITV 1 and ITV X; 2027's date is yet to be confirmed. The BRITs has been held at various venues in the capital including Earl's Court (1996-2011), Alexandra Palace (1993-1995) and The Grosvenor Hotel (1982-1987). The first event in 1977 was held at the Wembley Conference Centre, and the BRITs became a yearly occurrence from 1982 onwards; the 2021 event was the first major event to take place in the U.K. following the outbreak of the COVID pandemic a year prior. 2026 marks the first event of the three-year stewardship under Sony Music U.K.; stewardship rotates between the three major labels, with the BRIT Committee overseeing the show's creative direction. Damian Christian, the managing director and president of promotions at Atlantic Records, a Warner Music subsidiary, served as the chair of the BRIT Committee from 2022-2025. 'Moving to Manchester, the home of some of the most iconic and defining artists of our lifetime, will invigorate the show and build on the BRITs legacy of celebrating and reinvesting in world-class music,' says Jason Isley MBE, chairman and CEO, Sony Music U.K. & Ireland. 'Hosting the show in Manchester, with its vibrant cultural history, perfectly captures the spirit and energy of the BRIT Awards. I can't wait to see the show at the amazing state-of-the art Co-op Live venue.' Despite a beleaguered opening which saw delays and cancellation of shows in April 2024, the Co-op Live has since established itself as a key player in the U.K. live music scene. In 2024, the venue hosted the MTV EMAs, and 2025's live slate includes Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Olivia Rodrigo, Tyler, The Creator and more. The venue's 23,500 capacity makes it the largest indoor arena in Europe. Tim Leiweke, co-founder and CEO of Oak View Group said: 'The BRITs are the most important music event in the UK and were always the highlight of the year, not only because of its immense cultural contribution, but because of their commitment to improving the lives of youth through music. It is our honour to partner with our friends at BPI and Sony Music, alongside the great city of Manchester, to host the BRITs at Co-op Live and join in their mission to create opportunities for youth through music.' The BRIT Awards regularly pulls big name performers, with 2025's ceremony boasting live performances by Sabrina Carpenter, Lola Young, Teddy Swims and Sam Fender. Charli XCX, meanwhile, collected five awards on the night, including album of the year. The move follows the relocation of the MOBO Awards in recent years to Coventry (2021) and Sheffield (2024), and the Mercury Prize which is set to be hosted in Newcastle's Utilita Arena in September 2025. Brit Awards move to Manchester from next year

The Brit Awards are to be held in Manchester for the first time in the history of the ceremony, it has been announced. The biggest night of the UK music industry calendar has been held in London for the past four decades but will move to the Manchester Co-op Live arena in 2026 and 2027. The 2026 ceremony on Saturday February 28 will be broadcast exclusively on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player. Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester said: 'For the Brit Awards to move out of London is a massive coup for Greater Manchester. 'After 48 years, it is great that this prestigious global event is about to arrive in the UK capital of music and culture. 'Greater Manchester has an unparalleled music heritage known around the world, and this summer will play host to some of the biggest gigs on the planet. 'That was only made possible by our strong commitment to new talent and giving emerging artists the opportunities to make their name. 'We thank our friends at the BPI for choosing Manchester and we will pull out all the stops to show they made the right decision. 'Celebrating the Brit Awards right here in the home of 24 hour party people is the next chapter in its story and you can be sure that we will help them do it in style.' The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) is the trade body for the UK's music industry. Next year's Brit Awards will be the first of three years under the stewardship of Sony Music UK, which spearheaded the move to Manchester. Jason Iley, chairman and chief executive of Sony Music UK & Ireland said: 'This is a very exciting time for The Brit Awards. 'Moving to Manchester, the home of some of the most iconic and defining artists of our lifetime, will invigorate the show and build on the Brits' legacy of celebrating and reinvesting in world-class music. 'Hosting the show in Manchester, with its vibrant cultural history, perfectly captures the spirit and energy of the Brit Awards. 'I can't wait to see the show at the amazing state-of-the art Co-op Live venue.' Mastercard will continue their long-standing headline sponsorship, now in its 28th year. Charli XCX was the stand-out star at this year's Brit Awards at London's O2 Arena, taking home five awards including album of the year for her sixth studio release, Brat. US pop star Sabrina Carpenter was the recipient of the global success award, while former Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall collected the best pop act award. US pop star Chappell Roan won international song of the year for Good Luck, Babe! Co-op Live is currently Britain's biggest indoor arena and opened in May 2024 after several delays. British band Elbow opened the 23,500-capacity venue and since then acts including Sir Paul McCartney and Charli XCX have held gigs.

‘Sunlight' Review: A Man Wakes Up in a Camper, Monkey at the Wheel

When it comes to monkey costumes, you can keep your 'Better Man' biopic C.G.I. Nina Conti's 'Sunlight' brings its own bizarro, handmade appeal: A gnarly love story that starts with a guy waking up in an RV driven by a simian-suited stranger. It's a movie within the indie subgenre of comic encounters between lost outsiders, but powered by its own fringe logic of attraction and rebellion. The stranger in the toylike disguise turns out to be a woman (Conti) fleeing her manipulative stepfather, who took over her mother's motel. That's where she found Roy (Shenoah Allen) after a failed suicide attempt in his room. Her name, we eventually learn, is Jane. The RV actually belongs to Roy, a mild-mannered radio host burdened by a hectoring mom and tough memories of his deceased father. Not exactly a meet-cute, but their cracked road trip never loses its warmth under the New Mexico sun. The big question looms: Just who is Jane, and why the blank-eyed monkey suit? But we also wonder how Roy got to his wit's end. 'Sunlight' essentially follows two people helping each other extract and preserve what's left of their sanity and will to live. Conti bases Jane's furry alter-ego on her monkey ventriloquist act, part of her career in British TV and theater. A little of 'Sunlight,' which she directs and co-wrote with Allen, goes a long way. But there's still something to seeing a performer go for broke, purging a character's shame and despair through a screwy, confessional sense of humor. SunlightNot rated. Running time: 1 hour 36 minutes. In theaters.
