Businessman remanded in RM3.8m Negeri Sembilan land fraud case
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission secured the remand order from Magistrate Saiful Sayoti, effective until August 20.
The suspect, in his 40s, was arrested late last night after arriving to give a statement at the Negeri Sembilan MACC office.
Investigators believe he conspired with another suspect to use falsified documents for financial gain from the September 2022 transaction.
This follows an earlier three-day remand extension for the primary suspect, a land broker also in his 40s.
Negeri Sembilan MACC director Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg Ismail confirmed the arrest under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009. - Bernama

Police probe viral video on rioting incident
BUTTERWORTH: Police are investigating a viral video on a riot involving a group of individuals believed to have taken place here yesterday. Seberang Perai Utara police chief ACP Anuar Abdul Rahman said this followed a report of the incident lodged by a local man at the Butterworth Police Station. 'Investigations found that the incident occurred when the complainant tried to help a motorcyclist who was involved in a road accident. As the man was trying to help the motorcyclist, the latter suddenly got up and punched him (complainant) before some passers-by joined in the fight,' he said in a statement today. Corrupt cops exist, we won't sweep it under the rug, Ayob vows
KUALA LUMPUR: The police will not cover up corruption within its ranks, says Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay. He said he did not deny corruption existed in the force, adding that many officers had been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police's Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS). "We will act against anyone involved in corruption regardless of their rank or position," he said after the launch of a book titled "Antologi Puisi Makan Suap" at Wisma Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka last night. "From the top to the bottom, if you are corrupt, we will act against you. Corruption tarnishes the police's image." Ayob said most police officers carried out their duties with integrity, but there was a handful who were corrupt. He added that his record spoke for itself, having overseen the arrest of 24 police personnel during his time as Johor police chief, 14 of whom were sacked from the force. While serving as the Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director, Ayob said action was also taken against a superintendent, a deputy superintendent, two assistant superintendents, and an inspector who were all dismissed from the force. "I will not compromise with corruption," he said, adding that if a corruption case were discovered, he would hand the case to the MACC before taking other measures, including opening investigation papers and taking disciplinary action. Earlier in his speech, Ayob said there were those who claimed it was hard to stamp out corruption in the force, though this would not stop him from trying. "The era of rhetoric has passed. The public is watching our every move, our lifestyles, what we own." At the event, Ayob received a "Tokoh Integriti PEMUISI Malaysia" award for his efforts to eradicate corruption in the police.

Akmal Saleh questioned by police over Kepala Batas assembly
KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh gave his statement to police at Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters early today. The Merlimau assemblyman arrived at 11 pm yesterday and finished providing his statement at 1.25 am. His lawyer, Aizat Azam, confirmed Akmal answered around 80 questions during the investigation. The case involves a viral video posted on a Facebook account under the name 'Akmal Salleh'. Akmal is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 506 of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. His lawyer stated that Akmal cooperated fully with the investigating officer. Akmal himself assured reporters of his commitment to assisting police in the probe.
