Naidu releases report of Task Force on Economic Development for Swarna Andhra Pradesh
Co-chaired by TATA Sons Executive Chairman N. Chandrasekharan, the expert panel made a host of recommendations to the government on diverse sectors that had the potential to catapult it to the league of progressive States.
The task force stated in its report that India emerged as one of the fastest growing economies in the world and was expected to be a developed economy by 2047, but its journey towards a 'Viksit Bharat' by the 100th year of Independence hinged significantly on how the States perform individually and drive the economic growth agenda.
In this context, it had been noted that with the third longest coastline in the country and one of the largest land banks, Andhra Pradesh was at a comparative advantage to become one of the champions of the country's overall goal of achieving around US$ 35 trillion target over the next two decades. A.P.'s economy had more than doubled to US$ 174 billion in 2023-24 from US$ 86 billion (at current prices) in 2014-15 in spite of the challenges posed by the bifurcation in 2014.
The task force felt that though there were some gaps to be filled, A.P. was well poised to take the leap in its developmental journey towards a Swarna Andhra Pradesh by 2047.
It was pointed out that the top 15 districts — Visakhapatnam, NTR, Tirupati, Krishna, Eluru, Nellore, Guntur, Anantapur, Kakinada, West Godavari, East Godavari, YSR, Sri Sathya Sai, Anakapalli and Prakasam — contributed as much as 72% to the State's economy. They were expected to contribute nearly US$1.70 trillion to the State's overall target of US$2.40 trillion in 2047.
The task force laid down industries such as food processing, marine and aquaculture, electronics, automotive, and life sciences sectors as the potential growth drivers, while noting that emerging opportunities, which included the blue economy, would give a fillip to the growth prospects.
In terms of enablers, it was recommended that the State needed renewed focus on quality education and skills development.
Towards restoring industry confidence, the task force suggested introduction of a legislative mechanism to protect already announced incentives and concessions, regardless of a change in political dispensation, prioritising the clearance of all overdue incentive pay outs to help restore industry's faith in the system.
Expressing concern that the State's current fiscal scenario was a cause for concern, , the task force recommended to the government to set up an independent agency to monitor the compliance of fiscal responsibility legislation provisions, and a State Institutions of Transformation in collaboration with the NITI Aayog, to establish an independent public debt management cell in line with the recommendation of the Fifteenth Finance Commission, and to strengthen the State Finance Commission.
The experts said the government should leverage the Central government's initiatives such as the Aspirational Districts Programme to facilitate healthy competition among districts, have a graded incentive structure for specific regions and a dedicated policy for accelerated creation of growth centres in the different regions, and reap the benefits of One District-One Product programme for promoting exports.

US designation of TRF timely and important step: India
Agency: PTI New Delhi, Jul 18 (PTI) India on Friday welcomed the US designating The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, a global terrorist outfit over the Pahalgam attack with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar describing it as a 'strong affirmation" of India-US counter-terror cooperation. New Delhi said the designation of TRF is a 'timely and important" step and asserted that it has consistently emphasised the need for global cooperation in the fight against terrorism. India's reaction came hours after the US State Department announced adding the TRF as a 'designated Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT)" and cited its claim taking responsibility for the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said India remains committed to a 'policy of zero tolerance" towards terrorism and will continue to work closely with its international partners to ensure that terrorist organisations and their proxies are held accountable. In a social media post, Jaishankar specially complimented US Secretary of State Marco Rubio for designating the LeT proxy. 'Appreciate @SecRubio and @StateDept for designating TRF'a Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT) proxy'as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT). It claimed responsibility for the April 22 Pahalgam attack," he said. The MEA said India welcomes the decision of the US State Department to designate TRF as an FTO and SDGT. The TRF, a 'proxy" of the Pakistan-based terrorist organisation LeT, has been involved in numerous terror-related activities, including the heinous attack on civilians in Pahalgam for which it twice claimed responsibility, it said. 'India has consistently emphasised the need for global cooperation in the fight against terrorism and the dismantling of terror infrastructure," the MEA said in a statement. It said the designation of TRF is a 'timely and important step reflecting the deep cooperation between India and the United States on counter-terrorism". 'India remains committed to a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism and will continue to work closely with its international partners to ensure that terrorist organisations and their proxies are held accountable," the statement added. The US State Department also noted that TRF claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack. 'This was the deadliest attack on civilians in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks conducted by LeT," it said. 'TRF has also claimed responsibility for several attacks against Indian security forces, including most recently in 2024." The State Department said its actions demonstrate the Trump Administration's commitment to 'protecting our national security interests, countering terrorism, and enforcing President Trump's call for justice for the Pahalgam attack". Musk and Cook losing favour, Nvidia CEO rises as Trump-Xi bridge to ease US-China strain
After Tesla boss Elon Musk and Apple CEO Tim Cook fell out of favour with US President Donald Trump, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has emerged as a key player in easing tensions between the United States and China amid ongoing trade war and geopolitical tensions. read more US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping have an unlikely mediator who has been working quietly as a bridge between two competing superpowers: Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. Even though Trump has publicly fawned over Xi for years, the US-China relationship is far from pleasant. Soon after assuming office, Trump unleashed a trade war on China and China retaliated forcefully — so much so that China forced Trump to blink by leveraging the near-monopoly over global rare earths' supplies. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Amid such tensions, Huang has essentially emerged as a backchannel between the two sides at least in the domain of trade and technology. For one, Huang convinced Trump to reverse the restriction of Nvidia's H20 chips to China. More from World If what you're doing is right...: Why rise of masked officers has divided America Currently, Huang is on his third visit to China this year. In the words of Bloomberg, he is 'becoming increasingly adept at pulling off a delicate diplomatic dance that is both benefiting his company and helping the world's biggest economies manage their differences' However, it is a role that Huang has taken up reluctantly. Earlier this year in January, he was the only major tech titan to not attend Trump's inauguration. 'Huang is obviously on good terms with Trump administration. Yet his chip business is one of the biggest flashpoints between Beijing and Washington. It's possible the two leaders may want such a channel for messaging, but is he willing to?' Feng Chucheng, the founding partner of Hutong Research, told Bloomberg. How Nvidia CEO became US-China troubleshooter In the United States, Huang has deftly engaged with the Trump administration by finding allies in senior officials. In China, Huang has leveraged his business and charmed with his Mandarin skills and appreciation for the Chinese culture. He has also been careful to not touch China's raw nerve or impress his roots too much — he is of Taiwanese descent and was born in Taiwan. After initially not impressing Trump at a dinner, Huang built rapport with David Sacks, a veteran Silicon Valley investor whom Trump has appointed as his AI tsar, and found an ally in him, according to The New York Times. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD By working with him and Sriram Krishnan, who works on AI in the Trump administration, he convinced the administration with his thinking. Huang also pledged to invest $500 billion in the United States that helped smoothen ties with Trump. Huang gains as Musk, Cook lose Huang's rise has coincided with the downfall of Tesla boss Musk and Apple CEO Cook. While Trump fell out with Musk over political differences that came out in the open a few weeks back, Trump is upset with Cook over Apple's overseas manufacturing. Trump has threatened to impose 25 per cent tariff on Apple's products made outside of the United States — including in India. For context, as many 15-20 per cent iPhones were made in India last month and India's share may reach 25-30 per cent by 2027.
