And a glimpse of the devastation was caught in a short clip, which showed the mighty bomb's terrifying effects.
The footage shows the GAZAP being dropped on the ground from a bomber during a military test.
The bomb explodes and creates a huge flash, sending shockwaves that are visible to the naked eye.
A massive cloud of smoke and dust follows the explosion, which covered an area of almost 160metres wide, according to Turkish military bosses.
The bomb is said to be one of the most powerful conventional weapons, just one step below nukes.
The GAZAP, which means "Wrath" in Turkish, was unveiled at the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025 in Istanbul.
It is a 2,000-pound MK84 aircraft bomb which can be dropped from bombers as well as fighter jets, including F-4s and F-16s.
Nilufer Kuzulu, who led the research to develop the bomb, said: "Unlike its conventional counterparts, it features a fragment-based structure with 10,000 particles.
"These fragments disperse within a one-kilometre radius upon detonation."
She noted that traditional bombs of this category typically disperse around three fragments per square meter, while GAZAP disperses 10.16 fragments per square meter.
Moment cache of Putin's thermobaric 'vacuum bombs' is BLOWN UP in 3,000C blast
"This makes it three times more powerful than standard MK-series bombs," Kuzulu said.
"This design mimics the effect of a defensive grenade, breaking apart into controlled fragments instead of random steel pieces," she added.
The GAZAP bomb can be deployed from Turkish F-16 and F-4 fighter jets and can be developed further to be deployed from drones.
Thermobaric weapons were originally developed by the Nazis in World War Two but first used by the US in Vietnam.
They can produce more heat and overpressure than conventional bombs by exploding a vapour in the blast zone.

The deadly cloud produced after the explosion can reach temperatures of up to 3,000 degrees Celsius - and can burn through steel and concrete.
And if it comes into contact with human flesh, it can melt through right down to the bone.
Russia has a chilling past with thermobaric bombs and has reportedly dropped at least a few so far during its war with Ukraine.
While the use of the weapon can be extremely dangerous, it is not banned by the International arms control organisations to use against enemy positions in active warzones.
Deploying such bombs is not a breach of international law as long as civilians aren't being targeted with them.
Putin's wreakes havoc with vacuum bomb in Ukraine
Throughout the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has been widely accused of using thermobaric weapons, commonly known as "vacuum bombs".
Within days of the invasion, Ukraine's ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, accused Russia of deploying a vacuum bomb.
Around the same time, visual evidence of TOS-1A - a Soviet-era launcher - being moved into Ukraine began circulating on social media.
During the brutal siege of Mariupol and the intense fighting in the Donbas region, numerous reports and videos surfaced allegedly showing the impact of thermobaric weapons.
Putin was also accused of dropping a vacuum bomb in response to a Ukrainian incursion into the Kursk region.
Earlier this year, a cache of Russian thermobaric bombs was blown up in a huge explosion after an overnight Ukraine strike.
Incredible footage shows a huge fireworks-like inferno reaching high up in the sky after the precision attack.
Ukrainian Defense Forces destroyed the large pile of thermobaric munitions that was stored inside a warehouse in the Russian-occupied part of Donetsk region.
Ukraine's General Staff said in a statement: "On the night of February 28, the Defense Forces of Ukraine destroyed a thermobaric ammunition storage facility of the Russian invaders in the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region, in the Selidove district.
"In addition, three more important facilities of the Russian invaders were damaged. In particular, the Ilsk Oil Refinery, which is involved in supplying the Russian occupation army."

July quake appears to have damaged Russian nuclear sub base, NY Times reports
Aug 4 (Reuters) - A nuclear submarine base in Russia's remote Far East region was damaged last week following one of the most powerful earthquakes to hit the area in decades, the New York Times reported on Monday, citing satellite images. Photos captured by Planet Labs, a commercial satellite imaging firm, show damage to a floating pier at the Rybachiy submarine base on the Kamchatka Peninsula, the newspaper reported. One section of the pier appears to have broken away from its anchor point. Aside from the damaged pier, the satellite imagery does not show any other major destruction. Reuters could not independently verify the report. There was no immediate response from Russia's defence ministry outside business hours to a Reuters request for comment. A very powerful magnitude 8.8 earthquake off Russia's Far Eastern Kamchatka coast on Wednesday triggered tsunami warnings as far away as French Polynesia and Chile, and was followed by an eruption of the most active volcano on the peninsula. The Rybachiy nuclear submarine base, a strategic hub for Russia's Pacific Fleet, serves as a facility for the maintenance, deployment, and operations of the country's nuclear-powered submarines in the Pacific region.

Chinese military chiefs develop killer bird-drone powered by flapping wings
CHINESE military chiefs have developed a killer bird drone powered by flapping wings, The Sun on Sunday can reveal. The new weapon - known as an 'ornithopter' - has been built to resemble Eurasian tree sparrow and was revealed during a recent demonstration by Chinese special forces. The drone replicates the wing-flapping motion of a sparrow in flight, making it virtually indistinguishable from real birds at a distance, according to the latest edition of Soldier Magazine. A video of the occasion shows an officer with the Peoples' Liberation Army Sea Commandos releasing the sparrow-like drone as he resurfaced from the water. The drone then circled in the sky for a few minutes while flapping its wings like a real bird. Another clip shows a commando operating a larger drone, which is similar in size to a raven or hawk. Details of how the bird-drone is powered and flies remain secret but defence sources believe drones of this size would normally use small advanced sensors allowing the operator to spy on enemy troops. Defence sources have also claimed that this new generation of drones can also be armed with micro-warheads to strike enemy assets, especially those in cover. The drones could also be used to assassinate enemy VIPs such as senior military commanders. But small drones often have a limited range and endurance, making them suitable only for short-range reconnaissance. Colonel Phil Ingram, a former Army intelligence officer told The Sun on Sunday: 'These drones could revolutionise reconnaissance operations on the battlefield. 'It's just a matter of time before we see these being used in war zones such as Ukraine and there is quite a strong likelihood that they could already be part of Russia's drone armoury. Incredible moment wounded Ukrainian soldier is delivered e-bike by drone so he can escape while surrounded by Russians 'They will be used to conduct short term spying missions and if they can be fitted with a small warhead or weapon they could be used to take out individual battlefield commanders.' In 2021, the South China Morning Post uploaded a video of what it called a 'robo-fish' wagging its tail underwater. The device was not a real fish, but a drone with the potential for underwater surveillance. 1

Aug 1 (Reuters) - Defense firm L3Harris Technologies (LHX.N), opens new tab is working with air taxi maker Joby Aviation (JOBY.N), opens new tab to develop a vertical take-off and landing aircraft for defense applications, the companies said on Friday. Flight testing for the new military-grade version of Joby's VTOL aircraft is planned for fall 2025, with operational demonstrations expected in 2026. Joby's gas turbine hybrid VTOL aircraft is designed for low-altitude missions and offers both piloted and fully autonomous flying. "The next-generation of vertical lift technology enables long-range, crewed-uncrewed teaming for a range of missions," said Jon Rambeau, president of Integrated Mission Systems at L3Harris. Joby CEO JoeBen Bevirt said the company has been working with the Department of Defense over the past decade to develop aircraft with dual-purpose technologies, including a gas turbine hybrid powertrain for its current S4 aircraft platform. The Joby S4 is an electric VTOL aircraft designed as an air taxi for urban air mobility, that can carry one pilot and four passengers.
