Cyclist rides 77 miles to Glasgow for disability appeal
Mark Camburn, a charity worker, rode from Drem to the city centre as part of an epic 77-mile journey for the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (SCIAF).
He was joined on the final stretch by colleague Mari Everett, who lives in Paisley.

"However, I've never done a cycle to work as far as Mark has.

"It was a great pleasure to join the final leg of their journey from Kirkintilloch to SCIAF's offices in Glasgow."
The ride was organised to mark Cycle to Work Day and raised £1,000 for SCIAF's appeal supporting people with disabilities who find it more difficult to access services.
Mari said: "Fundraising and donations to charities at the moment are so important – the need is so high, so I'm delighted to hear that £1,000 was raised from generous sponsors.

Mark, 42, set off before dawn and still managed to make it in for his first meeting of the day.
He said: "The cycle was a ridiculous idea – and a huge challenge for me.
"The adrenaline was pumping at 3am, with the excitement of what was to come.
"But the reality really sunk in as the sun came up, and I realised how far we had to go.
"My eyes were as heavy as my legs."
His route took him through Edinburgh, Linlithgow, Falkirk, Kilsyth, and Kirkintilloch, through Bishopbriggs before reaching Glasgow.
He was joined for the final miles by colleagues, including SCIAF chief executive Lorraine Currie.
He said: "While I was cycling, I was thinking about the challenges families face in the communities SCIAF works.
"In places like Malawi and Ethiopia, women and girls spend hours every single day walking miles and miles just to collect water.
"In Gaza and Ukraine, where SCIAF are providing emergency relief, the challenges they face every day are incomprehensible.
"It really put things into perspective for me."

And on the other side of the city, Martin is feeling the heat already. In fact, some cocky Parkhead punters think the Ibrox gaffer might struggle to get into SECOND place. First up, Gordon Ashley from Ayr said: 'Why are Rangers fans getting so upset? When you see their true position in Scottish football, last year Aberdeen were the champions' biggest challengers for silverware - and this year it will be Hearts. 'Celtic are more than double the size of their club and the glory days are over for Rangers, so get used to it guys.' Eddie Eason, Ballingry, said: 'The boring Hotline caller, Alan Fleet, says he'd bet money on Celtic losing to the minnows his team have played. 'Really? That's why one bookie is already paying out on Celtic winning the league.' Bud Hay, Dumfries, said: 'I don't see that other mob bragging much this season. After saying they'd win this and that - it's now very quiet at Ibrox. This is so easy for Celtic, I don't see us dropping many points at all this season. The gap is growing.' Steven McSherry, Uddingston, said: 'With Hibs and Hearts in good shape, it augurs well for Celtic as we need a challenge to keep us sharp. 'With Rangers now a spent force in Scottish football we need others to provide strong competition.' Stephen Johnstone from Ardentinny, at least tried to add a bit of humour - if you can call it that - by saying: 'What do Rangers' Premiership starts and peeling onions have in common? Ultimately, they both end in tears.' Don't give up the day job, Stephen. At Ibrox, all is not well after their home draw with the Dark Blues where fans made their feelings known towards Martin. And he wasn't getting much Hotline sympathy either. David Thomson from Milngavie said: 'Martin isn't helping himself with some of the things he's coming out with. He says Rangers are now unbeaten in five games but supporters don't want to hear that. 'If we lose to Celtic at Ibrox on August 31 and go 10 points behind, the league season will be over and the kids are barely back at school. That's not good enough.' The Gers gaffer was cut a bit of slack by Drew Ferguson from Oban who said: 'Irrespective of whether you like or dislike Martin, he needs to be given time. New players are still trying to develop relationships on the pitch. 'What is clear is that Max Aarons isn't superior to anything we've already got. And Martin still needs a left-back, centre-back and striker.' Elsewhere, Hearts have started the season on fire and - if Tony Bloom is to be believed - will mount a title challenge of their own. Unsurprisingly, their rivals from across the city aren't having it. Neil Renton from Leith said: 'Never mind Liam Gallagher having a go at Edinburgh Council - it can't be long before Hearts fans do the same. 'After all, how come they've not been allowed to have a parade after winning the league? Some might say the Jambos shouldn't get too carried away after just two games!' Someone who won't get carried away, despite being on the verge of a massive move to Serie A, is humble Scotland star Lennon Miller. The 18-year-old is on his way to Udinese where he'll join the likes of Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour and Lewis Ferguson in the Italian top flight. Celtic were rumoured to be interested in Miller but one punter says that was never going to happen. Stephen Mulhern from Dumbarton said: 'The will he, won't he Miller saga is reaching a conclusion as he heads to Italy. 'I don't agree this is a John McGinn situation for Celtic. The fact is, we have an abundance of talent in midfield and Miller would have been warming the bench. At this stage of his career, he obviously wants to be in a starting line-up.'

The Celtic chief will remain in hiding as the boss tries to deal with tight-fisted change of stance
Time's just about up for the men in charge of Celtic's transfer strategy. By Thursday night the alarm bells will be ear splitting when Brendan Rodgers has to submit his squad list for a Champions League play-off double header against Kairat Almaty and, at that point, there will be no wriggle room left. No excuses. Nowhere left to turn. On the contrary, unless they suddenly pull a collection of unforeseen rabbits out of hats which appear not to exist, Rodgers will be shoved out front and centre, attempting to render their inexcusable mismanagement as just some minor misdemeanour. Scotland's champions may willingly be entering a period of regression but Rodgers remains an elite tactical and managerial performer. And, true, it's probably reasonable for his paymasters to assume he's got enough talent at his disposal to get through a double header against the Kazhaks of Kairat Almaty, even without a late rush of oven ready reinforcements. But, given the holes in his squad which remain both glaring and gaping, it's by no means a sure thing. And, no matter how these European qualifiers should turn out, the man charged with holding the fort is highly likely to find the inaction of his superiors as absolutely unforgivable. And, really, who in their right mind could possibly disagree with him? So the most pertinent and pressing question in all of this is, where exactly is Michael Nicholson, Celtic's invisible man of a chief executive? You may just about remember Nicholson from his yearly appearance in front of shareholders at the club's AGM. Even though his offerings are, for the most part, instantly forgettable. And that's probably the way he likes it. Nicholson is a reluctant and reclusive leader. So long as Rodgers remains standing there in the spotlight, delivering one title after the next, he may believe there's no real requirement for him to step out of the shadows. But, ironically, his determination to stay as far as humanly possible from centre stage or to present himself as his club's driving force, could well be about to drag him out into full focus. If he will not or cannot give his backing to Rodgers then he will have to carry the can in the eyes of the Celtic support when the Northern Irishman decides that his second stint as manager has run its course. And right now, the catastrophic optics seem to suggest that moment will be arriving sooner rather than later. Rodgers has long since nailed his own colours to the mast. On day one, when he began his reincarnation as Celtic's manager, he made a solemn promise that he would not run out on the club and its supporters for a second time, having taken a wrecking ball to those relationships when he left for Leicester City first time around. He deeply regrets the damage done by that decision. And that's possibly the only reason why he'll be prepared to stick around until his current three year contract has expired at the end of this season. Nicholson and his board will have calculated - and with good cause - that Rodgers will continue to succeed in his role for the time being, despite the dereliction of their own responsibilities. They have not replaced Kyogo Furuhashi despite rubber-stamping his £10m sale in January. They did not have a succession plan in place when they rushed to grab a further £17m for Nicolas Kuhn earlier this summer. Also, they appear not to have paid the slightest bit of attention to the injury which will keep Jota stuck in the treatment room at Lennoxtown for the rest of this year. And that's before they grapple with the potential end bringer of sanctioning Daizen Maeda's sale if, as has been reported, the Japanese international has no inclination to put pen to paper on a contract extension. Nicholson's certainly not daft. Regardless of the Maeda conundrum, he must realise Rodgers has already been left leafing through limited options and that Celtic's squad is weaker than the manager has earned the right to expect. But with Russell Martin already making a bad situation worse at Rangers, the bottom line is there is no obvious business requirement for Nicholson and his boardroom strategists to part with the kind of money the manager might wish them to. Yes, if they're smart, they'll be keeping one eye on the diligent work being carried out at Hearts but, even so, they will believe Rodgers has more than enough to see off the combination of Derek McInnes and Tony Bloom's analytics. They will probably point to the £26m they shelled out this time last year as a justification for cautiously playing footsie with this summer's transfer market. Once bitten, twice shy appears to be the mantra. And the basic logic is simple enough to follow. If Adam Idah can't be trusted to lead Celtic's attack despite costing £9m, if £11m Arne Engles has been subbed out of the manager's starting XI to make way for a £1.7m arrival in Benjamin Nygren and if Liam Scales continues to keep Auston Trusty on the bench, then why should they back the judgement of Rodgers to the same extent? Nicholson could reasonably argue that spending fortunes in order to satisfy the manager's lofty ambitions has come at too much of a cost. But don't hold your breath waiting for the CEO to come out and state his case. Rather, it's almost certain he'll remain hidden in plain sight while Rodgers attempts to deal with the consequences of his board's tight-fisted change of stance. Ultimately, this sudden pivot is likely to convince Rodgers that his own judgement is being called into question in the boardroom and he's simply not the kind of man to tolerate such blatant disrespect. He already said he's not the man to merely 'maintain' Celtic's status as Scotland's dominant force. On the contrary, Rodgers is striving to drive up the club's reputation across the continent by trading some serious blows in the Champions League. And, crucially, that's why Thursday's deadline will carry such significance to Rodgers even if Nicholson isn't all that bothered by it. Celtic will spend and the chances are they'll spend big before the window shuts for business at the end of this month. But even that would be missing the point. If Rodgers is left carrying a water pistol into a £40m knife fight against the Kazhaks next week then he may very well reach the conclusion that his own value to Celtic is being disregarded and underestimated by his own bosses. We all know how that one ends. And, if that's really where this is all headed, then soon the club's sequestered leadership will discover that there is no hiding place.

Celtic working on eight deals as Brendan Rodgers set to finally get his wish
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers hasn't been shy in demanding the club add more firepower this summer. And the door has been thrown open to Louis Munteanu in the hunt for a striker to rival Adam Idah. Matt O'Riley, Kyogo Furuhashi and Nicolas Kuhn all departing the Scottish champions in the last three windows - with Rodgers insisting adding more goals was his priority before the window closes. And Romania international Munteanu has been thrown into a bizarre situation by Cluj amid claims that a £10.5million bid from Stade Rennes had been accepted - while a Celtic bid had been knocked back. But weeks later he remains at Cluj - after owner Nelutu Varga insists he has now turned down a series of offers for the frontman. He told Pro Sport: I refused four clear offers. I don't want to talk about transfer fees anymore. I know how much he's worth and I'm not in a hurry to give him away. No matter how many offers he has, the right offer will surely come." Celtic may also have to meet a massive salary to bring in the striker - with the Romanian outlet claiming that Munteanu's agent is pushing for a £1.7million-per-year salary. After the departure of Kuhn, a winger is also high up on the shopping list with Go Ahead Eagles forward Jakob Breum on the agenda despite chief Jan Willem van Dop's brutal swipe at the Hoops. Michel-Ange Balikwisha remains an option with Belgian outlet HLN reportinh that while the Hoops retain the most concrete interest in the wide man, they haven't been table to come to an agreement with Antwerp. The Eredivise side are aiming to recoup the £4.7million forked out to sign Balikswisha from league rivals Liege back in 2021 - despite the forward entering the final year of his deal. Adam Obert is also said to be attracting interest from Celtic and in Germany - but a £6million price tag has been placed on the 22-year-old. Brondby's highly-rated winger Clement Bischoff has been touted as a target for Celtic and Sunderland this summer - and has been pitched a move to Celtic Park over the Premier League promise land. Former Rangers defender Richard Foster conceded: "For me, you are going to Celtic, with the opportunity to go and play in the Champions League. 'Or, you are going to Sunderland, where, let's be honest, they are likely going to be cannon fodder for the rest of the league. 'In my mind, there isn't even a question there. Even if Sunderland are offering twice the money, I think the winger should go to Celtic, if that's his choice.' Celtic have been linked with a shock move for West Ham playmaker Andy Irving - with a £3.5million price tag placed on the Scot. However, the Scottish champions face a battle for the midfielder with The Scotsman reporting they are joined by Rangers and interested suitors in Serie A and the Bundesliga in the race for the 22-year-old. Marco Tilio's move to Rapid Vienna is on hold - despite failing to make a competitive appearance so far this season. But sporting director Markus Katzer has refused to give up hope, telling Kurier: "Tilio could give us as much as Dahl, even if he plays differently. He is the perfect fit. It would be a good and fair deal for both." Stephen Welsh is also expected to leave Glasgow's east end following the arrival of Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on loan from Manchester CIty. The Hoops academy graduate has fallen out of favour under Rodgers and recently spent time on loan with Belgian side Mechelen with reports suggesting Welsh is exploring his options.
