New Delhi [India], June 13 (ANI): British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, held a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday and shared condolences over the plane crash near Ahmedabad Airport. She stated that UK and India are working together to establish facts and expressed readiness to support the families and friends of impacted British nationals.
In a post on X, Cameron stated, 'I met with Prime Minister @narendramodi this morning. We shared condolences in the face of this tragic accident, and I offered my thanks for the work of tireless first responders here in Ahmedabad. The Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick with 242 passengers crashed in Meghaninagar area shortly after it took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. 241 people were killed in the crash. As per Air India, the passengers comprised 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, one Canadian and seven Portuguese nationals.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi held a review meeting with the officials at the airport in Ahmedabad in the wake of the Air India plane crash incident. He also visited the Air India plane crash site in Ahmedabad and reviewed the ground situation.
In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, 'Visited the crash site in Ahmedabad today. The scene of devastation is saddening. Met officials and teams are working tirelessly in the aftermath. Our thoughts remain with those who lost their loved ones in this unimaginable tragedy.'
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi and other officials accompanied PM Modi during his visit. PM Modi also visited Ahmedabad Civil Hospital to meet with those injured in the mishap. (ANI)

NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader on Saturday questioned the security and maintenance lapse and possibility of "sabotage" that led to the crash of AI 171 flight in Ahmedabad leading to death of 274 people. He further pointed to past political opposition to the Boeing deal, noting that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party was against it. "I am not an expert, but there are serious questions about sabotage in the Air India plane that crashed in Ahmedabad within 30 seconds of take off. Was there any cyber attack on the system of the plane by any enemy country, as they try to target our military installations with their cyber attacks?" he asked. "BJP was against the Boeing deal when it happened, and Praful Patel was the Minister of Civil Aviation at that time. People are afraid of travelling by air now. Maintenance is the key for the aviation sector. Who has the maintenance contract for Ahmedabad? Why was Ahmedabad selected for this? Why did the accident happen to the flight from Ahmedabad airport? "The Committee will not be a substitute for other enquiries being conducted by relevant organisations but will focus on formulating SOPs for preventing and handling such occurrences in the future," the order clarified. The panel will assess the emergency response, identify the root cause, and recommend policy, operational, and training improvements. It will also draft SOPs incorporating international best practices to prevent and manage similar incidents in the future.

Gandhinagar: Rushab Rupani, son of Vijay Rupani arrives at father's residence
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 14 (ANI): Rushab Rupani, son of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijay Rupani, arrived at his father's residence in Gandhinagar on Saturday. Vijay Rupani was one of the 241 passengers who lost his life in the tragic crash of the Air India flight 171, a London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, on Thursday. Vijay Rupani was a two-time Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2016 to 2021. Rupani was also appointed the BJP's in-charge for Punjab. On Thursday, the Al-171 Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aeroplane bound for London's Gatwick had crashed shortly after it took off from the Ahmedabad International Airport. The airlines said only one out of the 242 people on board the aircraft survived the crash. Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Vijay Rupani, calling his death 'hard to believe.' In a post on X, Amit Shah wrote, 'I worked for a long time in the organisation with former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijaybhai Rupani ji. Whether it was strengthening the organisation as the state president or keeping Gujarat's development journey moving as the Chief Minister, Vijaybhai fulfilled every responsibility with full responsibility. It is difficult to believe that he is no longer amongst us.' Shah remembered Rupani as a dedicated leader who always worked with discipline and commitment toward the growth of the party and the state. Shah, who worked closely with Rupani during this period, highlighted his disciplined work ethic and loyalty to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). 'Calm and thoughtful by nature, Rupani ji's loyalty and discipline towards the organisation were amazing,' Shah said in his tribute. Amit Shah also shared a personal memory from his last meeting with Rupani. 'I met him a few days ago and had a detailed discussion on various topics related to the organisation in Punjab,' he wrote.
