Air India plane crash: 'Was there any cyber attack by enemy country?' asks Sanjay Raut; questions possibility of 'sabotage'

Time of India13 hours ago

NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader on Saturday questioned the security and maintenance lapse and possibility of "sabotage" that led to the crash of AI 171 flight in Ahmedabad leading to death of 274 people.
He further pointed to past political opposition to the Boeing deal, noting that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party was against it.
"I am not an expert, but there are serious questions about sabotage in the Air India plane that crashed in Ahmedabad within 30 seconds of take off. Was there any cyber attack on the system of the plane by any enemy country, as they try to target our military installations with their cyber attacks?" he asked.
"BJP was against the Boeing deal when it happened, and Praful Patel was the Minister of Civil Aviation at that time. People are afraid of travelling by air now. Maintenance is the key for the aviation sector. Who has the maintenance contract for Ahmedabad? Why was Ahmedabad selected for this? Why did the accident happen to the flight from Ahmedabad airport? The way ministers were behaving on the debris of the plane is really sad," he said.

Maharashtra deputy CM Ajit Pawar, meanwhile, urged people to focus on facts instead of the conspiracy theories regarding the crash. "Several theories are surfacing. Some retired pilots are sharing their views. Some experts are also commenting. Everyone is interpreting the situation in their own way. You should also know that one person survived this crash. So, while many people are speaking from different perspectives, I request that we focus on the facts of what actually happened," he said.
The government has set up a high-level, multi-disciplinary panel to investigate the factors behind the June 12 crash of Air India Flight AI-171, which was en route from Ahmedabad to London's Gatwick Airport and claimed 274 lives.
"A high level multi-disciplinary committee is constituted for examining the causes leading to the crash of the Air India Flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick Airport (London) on June 12, 2025.
The committee will examine the existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines issued to prevent and handle such occurrences and suggest comprehensive guidelines for dealing with such instances in the future," an order issued by the civil aviation ministry read.
"The Committee will not be a substitute for other enquiries being conducted by relevant organisations but will focus on formulating SOPs for preventing and handling such occurrences in the future," the order clarified.
The panel will assess the emergency response, identify the root cause, and recommend policy, operational, and training improvements. It will also draft SOPs incorporating international best practices to prevent and manage similar incidents in the future.

2 criminals ransack police station in Madurai

1 2 3 4 Madurai: Two anti-social elements ransacked the V Chatrapatti police station under Madurai rural district police limits in the early hours of Saturday after picking up an argument with a head constable. While police are on the lookout for the suspects, Thirumangalam MLA and deputy leader of opposition R B Udhayakumar was not allowed to enter the station when he arrived later. According to the police, around 1am, head constable Palpandi was on duty when two people not known to him suddenly trespassed into the police station and got into an argument with him. The duo then damaged the computer and desk inside the station before fleeing. As word got out, many people raised concerns over security and safety in the area with AIADMK MLA R B Udhayakumar arriving to submit a petition. Though he and party cadres tried to enter the station they were stopped by police, saying investigation was going on. "As a people's representative of this constituency, all I wanted was to inspect the police station where the attack by anti-social elements happened. People's well-being always comes first. But I'm being stopped unjustly," said Udhayakumar. Saying that even a police station was not safe, he held a dharna near the station. Police detained him and other AIADMK cadres at a marriage hall. Madurai district superintendent of police B K Arvind said investigation revealed that the ones who ransacked V Chatrapatti police station are M Prabhakaran alias Porali Prabhakaran and his friend. "Prabhakaran seems to have done these actions personally. He was angry as he believed his father Muthuvel was wrongly being detained and investigated by Dindigul police in a case," he added. Four special teams have been formed to trace and arrest the two accused. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Nashik civic body & cops must streamline traffic at bus Dwarka Circle: Chhagan Bhujbal

Nashik: Voicing his apprehension about traffic management at the busy Dwarka Circle in Nashik city, state food and civic supplies minister Chhagan Bhujbal said if the civic body and city police failed to work together on this issue, he would personally intervene through street protests to ensure proper functioning. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is currently working on improving traffic flow by removing the traffic island at Dwarka Circle, a junction notorious for daily traffic congestion lasting hours. Talking to reporters, an agitated Bhujbal said, "Neither does the Nashik Municipal Corporation want to act, nor do the city police want to ensure traffic management at the busiest junction in Nashik city is smooth and unrestricted. They are reluctant to do their duty. If this is the case, then I will have to sit here and see how things are streamlined." He pointed out that unauthorised vendors are contributing to the untidiness at the junction, which the civic body ignores. Additionally, the police department has failed to address the issue of randomly parked vehicles, he said. "Look how the Haji Ali Circle in Mumbai was developed when I was mayor of the Mumbai Corporation. I know the Dwarka Circle can also be equally beautiful, free from traffic and without bottlenecks. But only if the NMC and the police personnel are willing to work for it," said Bhujbal. He expressed frustration over the authorities' inaction, noting that despite repeated requests, neither the police nor NMC fulfilled their responsibilities regarding traffic management and encroachment removal. Following NHAI's removal of the traffic island, he intended to monitor the departments' performance. Bhujbal urged NMC to install and properly manage traffic signals. He advised the police to implement CCTV surveillance and enforce penalties for traffic violations, rather than stopping trucks mid-junction for inspection. He said MLA Devyani Pharande has been coordinating with NHAI, corporation and police authorities on this matter. Regarding the Nashik-Pune semi-highspeed railway, Bhujbal said he has shared the information with chief minister Devendra Fadnavis that a slight deviation in the alignment, bypassing GMRT installation at Narayangaon and not requiring to divert it through Shirdi, was possible.. "CM Fadnavis said he would be talking to the Railway minister soon." Following Bhujbal's visit to Dwarka, police officers began taking action against unauthorised parking and vendors, clearing the area. They also issued penalties to private and public vehicles obstructing traffic flow. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . UDF leaders object, vehicle check sparks controversy

Kochi: If a blue suitcase stole the spotlight during the Palakkad bypoll, a vehicle inspection in Nilambur has now sparked fresh controversy. UDF MP Shafi Parambil and MLA Rahul Mamkootathil were travelling together when officials waved down their vehicle for inspection on Friday. A video of the inspection, in which the UDF leaders can be seen arguing with the officials, visibly irked over the checking, was widely shared on social media. In the video, Rahul questions the random checking of MPs' vehicles, while Shafi can be heard saying that the problem was not about checking MPs' vehicles but of only checking UDF lawmakers' vehicles. Rahul was also seen raising his voice and arguing with an official, accusing him of being biased. Speaking to the media on Saturday, Shafi said the intention was to insult and not to inspect. Answering questions on whether it was right to threaten the officials, Shafi said if the intention was inspection alone, then they did not wish to say anything, but that was not the case. He said they cooperated since the officials have the right to conduct inspections. Shafi said when he got out of the car, he was asked to open the boot of the car and take out the suitcases. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo But the officials didn't check the boxes when he took them out. He added that they objected to this as the officials must check and certify that nothing was found in the suitcases. Shafi said they raised a question as to whether they are inspecting vehicles of other political parties. He said that to their knowledge, it has not happened, which is why they felt suspicious about the checking. In the backdrop of the development, Malappuram district collector V R Vinod issued a statement urging public to cooperate with inspections. He said that media reports related to the officers appointed as part of the implementation of the Nilambur bypoll code of conduct have come to his attention and that the people should cooperate with the inspections to ensure free, fair and transparent election processes. Vinod said these are mandatory measures as per the Election Act and the guidelines issued by the Indian Election Commission. Static surveillance teams are setting up temporary check posts and conducting vehicle inspections in key places in the constituency. These teams are working 24 hours a day. Each static surveillance team has a gazetted officer, two other officers, a videographer and a civil police officer, he added. Responsibilities given to employees of static surveillance teams include comprehensive inspection of vehicles. The entire inspection process is captured in the video.
