
Police probe Facebook post mocking UPSI students killed in Gerik crash, teacher under investigation
IPOH, June 13 — Police have launched an investigation into a Facebook account that posted offensive remarks about the deaths of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students in the recent road accident in Gerik.
Manjung police chief ACP Hasbullah Abd Rahman said a report was received at about 4.40 pm yesterday.
'A Facebook account under the name 'Khalid Yunus' was found to have posted an offensive remark about the students,' he said in a statement today.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Earlier, the Perak Education Department had instructed a school to prepare a full report concerning one of its teachers, who allegedly posted the offensive remarks. — Bernama

Gerik crash: Seven victims still undergoing treatment in hospital
IPOH: Only seven injured victims in last Monday's crash on the Jeli-Gerik East West Highway (JRTB) that killed 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students are still undergoing treatment in government hospitals. Thirteen students died at the scene, while two others were pronounced dead in the hospital. The crash left 33 others injured, and they were sent to several hospitals in Perak and Kedah for treatment.

IGP Razarudin set to step down after two years at the helm, sources say farewell ceremony next week
KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 — Tan Sri Razarudin Husain will retire as Inspector-General of Police (IGP) on June 22, marking the end of his two-year contract, Harian Metro reported today. The handover ceremony and farewell parade is scheduled to be held on June 20, at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre on Jalan Semarak, the Malay newspaper reported, citing unnamed sources. Similarly, national news agency Bernama TV carried the announcement in a Facebook post yesterday. However, Bukit Aman has yet to issue a formal statement. Razarudin was appointed as the 14th IGP on contract after retiring, with his tenure beginning on June 23, 2023. He succeeded Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.
