Watch: Air India SATS Executives Danced At Office Party Days After Ahmedabad Crash
The event, which took place on June 20, was attended by several top company executives.
A video of senior officials of Air India SATS (AISATS) dancing at a DJ party held inside their Gurugram office has gone viral on social media. The clip has sparked public outrage, especially because it surfaced days after the tragic crash of Flight AI171 in Ahmedabad, which claimed the lives of 274 people. Many are calling the celebration insensitive and poorly timed.
AISATS is a company formed as a partnership between Air India Limited (part of the Tata Group) and Singapore-based SATS Limited. It handles airport ground services at various airports across India.
According to a report by the news agency IANS, the DJ party at the Gurugram office took place on June 20 and was attended by several top executives. Among them were Sampreet Kotian, General Manager of Bengaluru International Airport Limited, as well as AISATS Chief Operating Officer (COO) Abraham Zakaria and the company's Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
The video quickly went viral on X (formerly Twitter), triggering a strong backlash from the public. Many found the timing of the celebration highly insensitive, as it happened while families of the crash victims were still grieving and waiting to receive the remains of their loved ones.
Take a look at the video here:
By June 20, of the 220 bodies that had been identified, only 202 had been reportedly handed over to the families.
As per IANS, AISATS was in charge of ground handling services at Delhi Airport and was also responsible for preparing the load sheet for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick—the same flight that tragically crashed.
As the video began to circulate widely, AISATS responded with an official statement. Speaking to IANS, the company said it was aware of the video being shared online but claimed it was being taken out of context. AISATS added, 'AISATS is aware of a video being circulated on social media that unfortunately is completely out of context. Notwithstanding, we sincerely regret any emotional discomfort this may have caused."
However, the company's apology has done little to ease public outrage.
A user said, 'Air India, you should be ashamed of yourselves. I hope you clowns are grounded."
Another commented, 'How could they? Even if it was planned earlier. It could've been postponed."
'Pathetic & highly insensitive," an individual wrote on X.
'This is not expected," another user remarked.
Many people feel that the video shows a disturbing lack of empathy and respect towards the victims of the crash and their grieving families.

Modi is doing this as he is under a lot of pressure due to U.S. policies," said Kidwai."The move will also help the stock market, which is now politically important as it has a lot of retail investors."India launched the major tax system in 2017 that subsumed local state taxes into the new, nationwide GST to unify its economy for the first the biggest tax reform since India's independence faced criticism for its complex design that taxes products and services under four slabs - 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%.Last year, India said caramel popcorn would be taxed at 18% but the salted category at 5%, triggering criticism about a glaring example of GST's the new system, India will abolish the 28% slab - which includes cars and electronics - and move nearly all of the items under the 12% category to the lower 5% slab, benefitting many more consumer items and packaged data shows the 28% and 12% tax slabs together garner 16% of India's annual GST revenue of roughly $250 billion last fiscal is a key state politically and goes to the polls by November. A recent survey by the VoteVibe agency showed Modi's opposition has an edge largely because of a lack of jobs."Any tax cut has wide public appreciation. But of course, the timing is purely determined by political exigencies," said Dilip Cherian, a communications consultant and co-founder of Indian public relations firm Perfect Relations."It seems to be an indication of some mixture of frustration as well as recognition that there is a broad public pushback against high and crippling rates of taxation."Modi's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has seized on his tax announcement, posting on X that on the Hindu festival of lights, Diwali, "a brighter gift of simpler taxes and more savings is waiting for every Indian."Modi has vowed to protect farmers, fishermen and cattlemen, following Trump's surprise tariff announcement on India, after trade talks between New Delhi and Washington collapsed over disagreement on opening India's vast farm and dairy sectors and stopping Russian oil latest round of trade talks between the two nations set for August 25-29 has also been called off.

Southern TN emerges as south India's next export hub
CHENNAI: Southern Tamil Nadu is fast emerging as South India's new industrial and export powerhouse, buoyed by a wave of large-scale investments and targeted state policy. The launch of Vietnamese electric vehicle giant VinFast's plant in Thoothukudi earlier this month has set the tone, drawing in capital and industry to districts including Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanniyakumari, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi and Madurai, creating what officials call a 'significant economic corridor' in the state's south. For the southern region alone, the state has signed MoUs worth Rs 30,100 crore during a recent investors' conference, promising 46,450 jobs. MSMEs have pledged an additional Rs 1,261 crore, with plans to create 1,000 jobs. Under the Naan Mudhalvan skill initiative, 350 people have been trained, with 250 of whom now working in training roles at VinFast. Several big-ticket projects are in the pipeline. Singapore-based Royal Golden Eagle (RGE) is investing Rs 4,953 crore to set up a man-made fibre facility in Thoothukudi, while South Korea's Hwaseung Enterprises will put Rs 1,720 crore into a large-scale non-leather footwear plant at Gangaikondan in Tirunelveli. Thoothukudi is also set to host a 250-acre space park, a shipbuilding department, a common facility centre for moringa exports worth Rs 5.59 crore, and a zonal unit of the Tamil Nadu Food Processing and Agri Export Promotion Corporation in Tirunelveli. Industries Minister TRB Rajaa says the state's decade-long logistics master plan will unlock the south's trade potential through multi-modal logistics parks in Madurai and Thoothukudi, and an air cargo complex in Thoothukudi to accelerate high-value and time-sensitive cargo movement. This industrial push is reshaping the region's shipping landscape, with VOC Port in Thoothukudi and Adani Group's transhipment hub at Vizhinjam, Kerala, both vying for the region's growing cargo volumes.
