Police release more details about Jackson Township fatal crash
The four-vehicle fatal wreck Friday in Jackson Township in which two motorcyclists died was precipitated by a two-car crash, according to additional details released by the Porter County Sheriff's Department Monday.
According to a Porter County Coroner's office release, the motorcyclists have been identified as 73-year-old Richard Dowding and 62-year-old William McCoy, both of Portage.
Deputies with the Porter County Sheriff's Department were dispatched around 1:47 p.m. May 30 to the intersection of U.S. 6 and White Thorne Lane for a report of a crash involving two motorcycles and two passenger cars, according to a release from Sgt. Ben McFalls, the department's public information officer.
Officers who arrived at the scene found both motorcyclists had died. Lifesaving measures were attempted but unsuccessful.
According to an initial investigation, a 2023 Audi Q7P was eastbound on U.S. 6 and began to slow while its left turn signal was activated. While slowing down, it was rear-ended by a 2017 Nissan Rogue, McFalls said.
Because of the collision, the Audi entered the westbound lane of traffic and collided with the motorcycles, a 2017 Harley Davidson and a 2002 Harley Davidson.
The Porter County Crash Unit is investigating, McFalls said.
'Please keep the family and friends of the drivers that passed in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,' McFalls said, thanking agencies that assisted at the scene.

Murder arrest after teenager killed in ‘hit and run'
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a teenager was hit by a car that appeared to mount the pavement, police have said. Det Ch Insp Benjamin Wood, the senior investigating officer in the case, said: 'This is a tragic incident in which an entirely innocent bystander, who was going about his daily business, has sadly lost his life. 'Our thoughts are with the boy's loved ones, and we remain focused on securing justice for them. 'We know that this incident will have caused concern in the local community, and we have a team of detectives working at pace to piece together the circumstances which unfolded. 'We're aware of footage being shared online, and I'd like to reiterate our message to the public to withhold from speculating or circulating videos, which may cause distress to the boy's family. 'If you have any footage, imagery or information that may help our investigation then please share this directly with us – it may form an important part of our enquiries. Man arrested on suspicion of murder after 16-year-old hit by car on pavement
A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a teenager who was an 'entirely innocent bystander' was hit by a car which appeared to mount the pavement, police have said. Officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Staniforth Road shortly after 4.50pm on Wednesday. Mojid Khan said the boy came to rest at the gates of his Staniforth Road wholesale catering business, and his staff were the first on the scene after hearing the collision. He said he arrived half an hour later and was shocked to see what his CCTV system had recorded. Mr Khan said on Thursday: 'When it happens on your doorstep, literally, it does affect you. It's quite horrific to see how it happens.' He said: 'I think it's a local lad that's passed away and another local lad that got injured on a motorbike. It's shocking for us as a community. 'The disturbing thing is that this is not the first time that this has happened. It seems every few months something like this is going on. 'I think that's a matter for our politicians to do something about.' He said: 'Tomorrow is our Eid festival. That's going to hit them (the boy's family) even harder. 'It should be a happy day. I'm really sad for the family. Their loss is going to be that much greater tomorrow.' Mr Khan said people used the road outside his business 'like a racetrack', and there were increasing problems with quad bikes and scooters. 'I have children in this area who go to school, who go to work, and other family members going to the local shops,' he said. 'It's quite distressing and disturbing to know this kind of thing is happening on a regular basis.' Mr Khan said it was a close-knit community, in which he had worked since 1978, but speeding motorists and gang problems had begun to blight the area in recent years. People began to lay flowers outside Mr Khan's business as the large police presence in the area dispersed on Thursday. Debris from the collision could still be seen in the road, at the junction between Staniforth Road and Barnardiston Road.

This Galaxy A7 Is Not a Samsung Phone, But a Sedan With a Huge Range
We rarely cover cars sold exclusively in China, but we're willing to make an exception on occasion if there's a compelling reason. Geely's latest product meets the criteria with its unusual name, impressive driving range, and the simple fact that it's not another SUV. Roughly the same size as a Toyota Camry, this large sedan is called the Galaxy A7, a name that immediately brought to mind Samsung's namesake smartphone from a few years back. Side note: Samsung actually made cars in Korea through a joint venture with Renault. Beyond the unexpected Samsung connection, the Galaxy A7 also evokes thoughts of the Audi A7. In China, Audi offers two versions of its luxury car: the familiar A7 Sportback, a five-door liftback built by FAW, and the lesser-known A7L sedan , which features a traditional trunk. The latter is built by Audi's other local partner, SAIC. Geely's A7 looks upscale enough to compete with cars bearing the fabled Four Rings. Photo by: Geely Although our Chinese may be a bit rusty, one detail about the car stood out: a driving range of more than 2,100 kilometers (1,305 miles) on a full tank and a fully charged battery. It's an impressive figure, though it's worth noting it's based on the lenient China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). The Galaxy A7 is a plug-in hybrid that pairs a small 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine with an electric motor. Geely claims a combined fuel consumption of just 2 liters per 100 kilometers, a whopping 117.6 miles per gallon. Reports from China indicate Geely will offer the Galaxy A7 with multiple lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery options, supplied by CALB and CATL. The largest will be an 18.99-kWh pack, enabling an electric-only range of 75 miles (120 kilometers), again based on the CLTC standard. In terms of size, the car measures 193.6 inches (4918 mm) in length, 75 inches (1905 mm) in width, and 58.8 inches (1495 mm) in height, with a generous 112 inches (2845 mm) wheelbase. It ticks nearly all the boxes for 2025 car trends: front and rear light bars, a massive center screen, and minimal physical controls. The Galaxy A7 comes with 17- to 19-inch wheels and weighs up to 3,825 pounds (1,735 kilograms) in its heaviest configuration. That translates to around $14,000–$18,000, highlighting just how far ahead China is in minimizing production costs while still turning a profit. The Galaxy A7 will be manufactured by the company that owns multiple brands, including Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, Lynk & Co, Zeekr, and Farizon. Geely also owns half of Smart, 49.9% of Proton, 17% of Aston Martin, and a 9.69% stake in Mercedes, through its founder and chairman, Li Shufu.
