Wayne Rooney: Criticism from Birmingham minority owner Tom Brady ‘very unfair'

Former England captain Rooney said he was 'really disappointed' at the seven-time Super Bowl winner's criticism.
The ex-Everton and Manchester United striker said: 'I think Tom came in once, which was the day before a game where the days are a little bit lighter anyway, and I don't think he really understood football that well.
'But what he does understand is – he's a hard worker – we know that.'
Rooney added: 'Football is not NFL – NFL works for three months a year. Players do need rest as well, so I think he's very unfair, the way he's come out and portrayed that.'

Birmingham were bought out by American consortium Knighthead Capital Management in the summer of 2023 and Brady became a shareholder two months later.
Rooney was sacked following 15 matches after Blues had slipped to 20th in the Sky Bet Championship and the club were relegated at the end of the 2023-24 season.
Under current boss Chris Davies, Birmingham bounced straight back to the second tier as League One champions last season with an English Football League record points tally of 111.

Mick Schumacher edges closer to Cadillac F1 deal but not the one he wants most
Cadillac are in the process of recruiting drivers for their maiden Formula 1 season in 2026 with Mick Schumacher one of those who has held talks with the American outfit Mick Schumacher is edging closer to a Formula 1 return – but not in a race seat. The 26-year-old son of seven-time World champion Michael is desperate to revive his F1 career which ended in 2022 after two seasons with minnows Haas. He spent time as reserve at Mercedes after that but has since left F1 altogether to race with Alpine in the World Endurance Championship [WEC]. Schumacher has three podiums to his name so far and hopes to use it as a springboard back onto the F1 grid. The German has held discussions with Cadillac, who will form F1's 11th team next year, about a potential deal. And it is understood that those talks have progressed, though at this stage it is unlikely that he will be given one of the two race seats on offer for 2026. Instead, Schumacher is the front-runner to be named as Cadillac's first reserve driver, as reported by The Race. He would prefer a race seat, but a reserve role is still believed to appeal to Schumacher who wants to get his foot back in the door of the F1 paddock. Experienced F1 race-winners Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez are understood to be Cadillac's preferred choices for their race seats. They are each in advanced talks while some reports claim the latter, who has spent this year away from F1 having been axed by Red Bull last December, is close to agreeing a deal. Both, however, have also held talks with bottom-feeders Alpine who are considering their 2026 options for a partner to Pierre Gasly. Franco Colapinto has yet to score a single point since replacing Jack Doohan in May, who also did not manage a top 10 finish. Schumacher, the 2020 Formula 2 champion, raced 43 times for Haas but finished in the top 10 just twice. He also suffered several large and expensive crashes which were a financial headache for F1's smallest team and that, ultimately, led to then-team boss Guenther Steiner dropping him at the end of 2022. The consensus is that he has done fairly well since making the switch to WEC, including a 10th-placed finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. Schumacher looks increasingly likely to leave Alpine at the end of this season and could switch to Cadillac's Team Jota, one of the top teams in WEC, replacing 2009 F1 champion Jenson Button. Whether or not the German does land a place with Cadillac's F1 project remains to be seen. But former F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve has made clear his belief that the new team would be making a mistake if they pick the German for one of their race seats. The 1997 title winner said: "Mick Schumacher had a hard time when he was at Haas. He has not an experienced driver either. There is no reason to go for him."

NFL legend Aaron Donald sparks fan concern after posting wild helmet-to-helmet hit with his son
Rams legend Aaron Donald has gone viral after a clip emerged of the NFL icon practicing helmet-to-helmet collisions with his young son. Donald retired last March after an incredible 10 years in the NFL. He was a three-time defensive player of the year, a Super Bowl winner and eight-time All Pro known for his ferocity. Now, it seems the 34-year-old wants to teach his nine-year-old son, Aaron Jr, a few tricks of the trade - and show him the brutal reality of life in the NFL. The former defensive tackle this week posted a clip on social media entitled 'Another day at the Donald's (sic).' In the video, the Rams legend - a father of four - can be seen colliding head-on with his son in the family home. 'Don't be scared! If you can hit me, you can hit anybody,' he tells Aaron Jr., who proceeds to put the ball under his arm and run straight at his father. 'Not the head!' someone - believed to be Donald's wife, Erica - is heard shouting. But Donald - wearing his old Rams gear - invites his son to come again. After the second helmet-on-helmet clash, Donald shakes his head and jokes: 'I feel rusty, huh' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Aaron Donald (@aarondonald99) He then invites his son to 'go a little harder'. After initially refusing, the child obliges and following a third collision, he grabs his head - much to Donald's amusement. But the clip sparked concern among some fans, who warned that his son risked giving himself a brain injury at a young age. 'Lil bro gonna have CTE by 11,' one said. 'Jesus Christ is he trying to give his kid CTE before his balls drop,' added another. 'Love this but please don't let that boy get in a habit of leading with his head like that,' said a third, According to the Boston University CTE Center, 'Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) is a degenerative brain disease found in athletes, military veterans, and others with a history of repetitive brain trauma. 'CTE is caused in part by repeated traumatic brain injuries, which include concussions and nonconcussive impacts.' On Wednesday, meanwhile, details of Donald's frightening ordeal with an alleged stalker were revealed in newly surfaced court files from Los Angeles County, where the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year admittedly feared for his family's safety and his own. Donald, who was regarded as one of the toughest players in the NFL before retiring in 2024, filed the restraining order against his alleged stalker in April after what's described in the court filings as years of unwanted harassment by the woman, whom he claims to have never met. The woman, Janelle Anwar, is accused of sending threatening and harassing emails to the Donald family, according to court files obtained by Daily Mail. The Athletic first reported details of the temporary restraining order request. Anwar is further accused of sending packages and balloons to Donald's children, and travelled to Pittsburgh where he was holding a football camp, as she confirmed to Daily Mail on Wednesday. Although Donald claims he's never met Anwar, she nonetheless filed a pair of divorce petitions against him seeking millions of dollars. Donald also received Google Chat messages from his alleged stalker that he took as a threat against his 3-year-old son, according to the temporary restraining order request.
