CBS Announces Retirement Of Longtime Golf Announcer
CBS Sports will soon lose a long-time member of its golf team.
Ian Baker-Finch announced Tuesday that he's retiring as a golf broadcaster. The 64-year-old will conclude his career by calling the Wyndham Championship on Sunday, Aug. 3.
"Golf has been an enormous part of my life. I was fortunate to compete against the best players in the game and more recently work with the very best in television," Baker-Finch said in a CBS statement. "To my CBS Sports family — my teammates, producers, directors, and crew — thank you for your extraordinary talent, dedication, and camaraderie. You've made every moment in the booth a joy, transforming broadcasts into cherished memories. To my colleagues across the industry and golf fans around the world, your support and shared love for this game over these decades have meant everything."
Baker-Finch compiled 17 professional wins over his playing career, including the 1991 Open Championship. He missed 10 consecutive major cuts after tying for 10th in the 1994 Masters.
The Australian began his broadcasting career in 1998 as a golf commentator for ESPN. He's worked at CBS as a hole announcer since 2007.
Baker-Finch will call two more tournaments for CBS before stepping down in two weeks.
'As a major champion during his successful playing career and over three decades in broadcasting, Ian Baker-Finch distinguished himself as one of the most respected and trusted voices in golf," CBS Sports CEO David Berson said.. "As he announces his retirement, we'll miss his passion, insight, warmth and steady presence on the air but know he will continue to make his mark across the world of golf. Finchy will always be part of the CBS Sports family, and we thank him for being an incredible teammate and friend, and for his immeasurable contributions the past 19 years at CBS."CBS Announces Retirement Of Longtime Golf Announcer first appeared on The Spun on Jul 22, 2025

Tony Romo Makes His Stance On President Trump Very Clear
Tony Romo Makes His Stance On President Trump Very Clear originally appeared on The Spun. With the NFL regular season roughly a month away, it won't be long before fans are talking about Tony Romo's commentary for CBS. Right now though, he's making headlines because of his politics. Romo, who played for the Dallas Cowboys from 2004-2016, has remained a notable figure in the NFL world since his retirement. To be fair, he calls every marquee game for CBS alongside legendary broadcaster Jim Nantz. Back when Romo was on the Cowboys, he received a few encouraging words from Donald Trump. At that time, he wasn't the president of the United States. "The fact that Tony Romo got hurt is a terrible thing for the Dallas Cowboys," Trump said in 2015. "I think Tony's a great guy, I know him and he's also a great football player and it certainly will hurt Dallas." Trump also complimented Romo's skills as a golfer. "I played golf today with a really good golfer: Tony Romo. Do you know Tony Romo?" Trump said. "He may be a better golfer than a football player. I don't know." Despite all the praise that Romo received from Trump, he never really voiced his support for the president. Well, that all changed this month. This past Thursday, Trump signed an executive order to revive the Presidential Fitness Test. He also brought back the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. "The revitalized President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition will create school-based programs to reward excellence in physical education and support the development of a Presidential Fitness Award — working in partnership with athletes, coaches, teams, and schools to champion access to fitness and healthy living for all Americans," the government said. "The Council will also play an important role in restoring tradition to college athletics, including reforming the broken transfer portal and keeping men out of women's sports." Believe it or not, Romo is a member of the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. Romo isn't the only NFL star forming an alliance with Trump. The President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition also includes Saquon Barkley, Nick Bosa, Harrison Butker, Tua Tagovailoa and Lawrence Taylor. Only time will tell if Romo takes on a bigger role with the Trump Romo Makes His Stance On President Trump Very Clear first appeared on The Spun on Aug 3, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Aug 3, 2025, where it first appeared.

Eagles, Raiders Make Training Camp Player Swap
Eagles, Raiders Make Training Camp Player Swap originally appeared on The Spun. With the preseason fast approaching and final rosters beginning to take shape, the Philadelphia Eagles and Las Vegas Raiders reportedly made a trade on Tuesday. The Raiders recently got rid of defensive lineman Christian Wilkins after signing him to a four-year, $110 million contract due to how he treated his injury rehab and a strange "kissing" incident. Now the team has added some depth in that spot by sending cornerback Jakorian Bennett to the City of Brotherly Love in exchange for defensive tackle Thomas Booker IV, per Raiders reporter Ryan McFadden (via ESPN insider Adam Schefter). Booker is a former fifth-round pick of the Houston Texans who appeared in all 17 games for the Eagles during their Super Bowl run — recording 18 tackles and a sack in his on-field appearances which included one start. While Bennett was a fourth-round pick out of Maryland in 2023 who put together a solid campaign in his sophomore NFL season, even though it was cut to just 10 games after undergoing season-ending surgery on his shoulder. The Eagles parted ways with veteran Pro Bowler Darius Slay this offseason, so adding another DB to the mix could be a benefit to them. The trade is still pending physicals from both sides, according to McFadden's sourcing, but is likely to go through once everything gets sorted out. Bennett had reportedly been dropping on Vegas' depth chart since returning from the injury despite being 100% healed — with most of his reps coming with the Raiders' second and third teams since OTAs. Perhaps a change of scenery will be good for him as he fights for more time on the field with one of the NFL's most talented defenses. "I always feel like the underdog," Bennett told last week. "I always had to get out [of] the mud, you know. And man, that's nothing I shy away from. That's who I am. I like to persevere."Eagles, Raiders Make Training Camp Player Swap first appeared on The Spun on Aug 5, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Aug 5, 2025, where it first appeared.

Warner's Hundred debut stalls as Spirit are downed
David Warner's debut in England's Hundred competition has fallen flat, the Australian opener dismissed for a ten-ball nine and his London Spirit side thrashed by their capital rivals Oval Invincibles at Lord's. It was his first appearance at the self-styled Home of Cricket since the Test match two years ago in which he was abused in the Long Room by members after Alex Carey controversially ran out Jonny Bairstow. The former Australia Test opener spiced up his bow by criticising England hero Joe Root's batting, suggesting he "take the surfboard off his front leg", if he was to finally make an Ashes hundred Down Under. But there was no obvious antagonism from the crowd when he ran out to open through a cloud of firework smoke as Spirit batted first. 🩷💬 @davidwarner31 #TheHundred | 🎤 @SkyCricket — The Hundred (@thehundred) August 5, 2025 Warner is one of the big names lured by higher paydays to add lustre to the competition, with Steve Smith and Marcus Stoinis also involved. The 38-year-old is picking up Stg 100,000 ($A205,000) and the other two Stg 120,000 ($A246,000). His high profile in England is clear from the event using his image in social media to promote the competition. However, Warner was unable to follow the example set by his compatriots Grace Harris and Meg Lanning, who made 89 not out and 85 respectively in the preceding women's match in the double-header. 🗣️ "I'm pumped!"David Warner on playing for the London Spirit at The Hundred 🙌 — Sky Sports Cricket (@SkyCricket) August 5, 2025 David Warner has a pre-match chat with Stuart Broad He saw little of the strike early on as Spirit struggled to adapt to a slow pitch that took spin, and hit one four before his dismissal, caught at long-on trying to whack Jordan Clark's slower ball. That left Spirit 3-26 from 31 balls and it didn't get any better, being dismissed for 80, the second lowest men's score in the competition's five years,. Invincibles, the defending champions, cruised to victory with six wickets and 31 balls to spare, hitting the night's only six to win it Ashton Turner was Spirit's top scorer with 21 but the Australian who did best was Invincibles' Jason Behrendorff who took 17-1 in his 20 balls, taking the wicket of Spirit captain Kane Williamson. Afghanistan legspinner Rashid Khan was the star turn, taking 3-11 in 20 balls while Sam Curran claimed 3-18. It wasn't just a London derby, there was also a West Australian coaching clash in which Tom Moody came out well on top against Justin Langer, though as the latter observed, he's barely had 48 hours to work with the team. The coaching test will be where they are at when these teams meet again at the end of the league on August 25. Langer clearly has a lot more work on his hands than Moody, who's aiming for a three-peat with Invincibles.
