Oman: Majlis Al Shura hails Royal grant of $18mln for autism and rehab centre
The committee pointed out that these orders reflect the Royal Care and attention for the persons with disabilities and the keenness for providing an environment that meet their needs and help them achieve their independence and facilitate their integration in society.
The committee reaffirmed the keenness of Majlis Al Shura for taking care of this sector of society.
The committee has held several meetings during which it hosted specialists and officials from the civil society establishments and associations including the Omani Lawyers Association (OLA), and Oman Energy Association as part of its efforts to review the civil establishments draft law.
During the meeting, the committee reaffirmed its keenness for the participation of the various departments and parties concerned in the review of the draft law and for obtaining their opinion and observations on the draft law.
These meetings come within a series of consultations made by the committee with the various departments for rephrasing an integrated draft law that meet aspirations of society and keep abreast with the legislative developments.
It is worth mentioning that the civil establishments draft law aims to empower the civil establishments to perform their role for this segment of society, provide and contribute to sustainable development.
The discussions of the committee were held within the sixth meeting of the second regular convening (2024-2025) of the tenth term (2024-2027) of Majlis Al Shura chaired by Mansour bin Zaher Al Hajri, chairman of the committee in the presence of the members on Sunday.

Dubai seizes 35 tonnes of counterfeit cigarettes, cosmetics, and electronics in largest crackdown
Dubai Customs has seized more than 35 tonnes of counterfeit, smuggled, and substandard goods from across all air cargo centres in Dubai. The exceptional security and inspection campaign, described as the largest since the beginning of 2025, spanned over three months as part of ongoing efforts to protect borders and combat smuggling and commercial fraud. The operation resulted in the seizure of over 12 million smuggled cigarettes, 6.7 million counterfeit cigarettes, 37,110 non-compliant cosmetic products not meeting local market standards, 3,632 undeclared electronic items, and 10,520 counterfeit items bearing global brand names. Dr. Abdullah Busenad, Director General of Dubai Customs, stated that the department uses advanced systems and technologies for intercepting and targeting shipments, supported by a highly skilled field inspection team and a Customs Intelligence Department with extensive expertise in data analysis and shipment monitoring. He said the operation sends a clear message to anyone attempting to manipulate the global trade system or undermine Dubai's secure customs leadership. These seizures reinforce Dubai's position as a pioneer in legitimate trade, enhance national security and stability, and protect brand owners—thereby driving the national economy and supporting Dubai's vision and economic agenda. Sultan Saif Al Suwaidi, Director of Air Cargo Centres at Dubai Customs, emphasised that the department conducts comprehensive inspections of all parcels using advanced scanning devices, while suspicious parcels undergo detailed manual inspection by trained inspectors skilled in analysing data and X-ray images. Recently, the Intellectual Property Rights Protection Department at Dubai Customs reported registering 159 trademarks, 63 commercial agencies, and one intellectual property asset. Dubai Customs also announced that in 2024 it recorded 285 intellectual property (IP) violations involving counterfeit goods valued at Dhs92.695 million. The seized items included fake watches, glasses, electronics, clothing, fabrics, bags, and shoes. Mansour Al Malik, CEO of the Policies and Legislation Sector at Dubai Customs, emphasised the department's strong commitment to protecting intellectual property rights. He stated that IP protection is a cornerstone for fostering innovation, sustainable economic growth, and enabling individuals and companies to benefit from their efforts in developing new ideas, innovations, and trademarks.

Sharjah government to hire 700 Emiratis by end of 2025
Image for illustration Sharjah government has announced its decision to hire 700 UAE nationals by the end of 2025. It follows the directive of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. Sheikh Sultan also approved the promotions for 1,523 government employees at an annual cost of AED 22 million. The government said it will also change the status for 254 employees who've gained academic qualifications at a cost of AED 8,420,803.

Sharjah Ruler unveils decent living grant for some Emirati families
Sharjah has announced a "decent living grant" to help Emirati families live better with an aim to increase their monthly income to AED 17,500. It follows the directive of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to provide financial assistance to 3,162 families registered with the Social Services Department. The Department will be given an additional AED 134 million annually to be disbursed to the families starting September. Sheikh Sultan also announced plans to build a new "Social Care Complex" in Al Ruwaidat with several facilities including a centre for women, a home for the elderly, a mental health facility, and a care home for children, all in one place. The complex will cover an area of 140,000 square metres and will also include recreational facilities, as well as a mosque and gym.
