Over 1,000 released under 12th Fak Kurbah initiative

Muscat – The Omani Lawyers Association announced the release of 1,088 individuals imprisoned for non-criminal financial cases across Oman, following the conclusion of the 12th edition of its humanitarian initiative, Fak Kurbah, on Sunday. North Batinah recorded the highest number of releases with 334 cases, followed by Muscat with 242, Dakhliyah with 102, South Batinah with 95, and South Sharqiyah with 67. A further 65 cases were resolved in Dhahirah, 60 in Buraimi, 57 in Dhofar, 46 in North Sharqiyah, 16 in Al Wusta and four in Musandam. Dr Hamad bin Hamdan al Rubaie, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Omani Lawyers Association, said the initiative targeted cases that met strict eligibility criteria. 'We received significant contributions from individuals and both public and private sector institutions, due to the growing awareness of the importance of supporting social and humanitarian causes. This support was instrumental in achieving the goals of the 12th edition, resulting in the release of more than 1,000 individuals,' he said. Dr Mohammed al Zadjali, Chairman of the Omani Lawyers Association and overseer of the initiative, said Fak Kurbah has helped create an organised framework for humanitarian and social work in Oman. 'The initiative has reinforced the values of compassion, solidarity and social responsibility among all segments of society,' he said. Since its launch in 2012, Fak Kurbah has secured the release of more than 8,198 insolvent individuals.

Muscat – The 12th edition of the Omani Lawyers Association's Fak Kurbah initiative has successfully freed 999 people so far across the sultanate since its launch at the beginning of Ramadan. Fak Kurbah initiative aims at securing the release of individuals imprisoned due to financial insolvency. The initiative has brought renewed hope to families and offered beneficiaries a fresh start. Of the total 999, the released individuals come from various governorates, with Muscat recording the highest number at 202, followed by North Batinah (118), Buraimi (55), Dhofar (43), North Sharqiyah (22), Dakhliyah (16), and South Sharqiyah (7). Additionally, 16 cases are from Dhahirah, seven from South Sharqiyah, four each from South Batinah and Musandam, and one from Al Wusta. Launched in February, the campaign aims to support approximately 1,300 individuals this year through community contributions and institutional partnerships ending on April 22. Last year, Fak Kurbah helped secure the release of 1,219 individuals. The initiative is part of the Omani Lawyers Association's ongoing efforts to promote humanitarian work within Omani society. Dr Hamad bin Hamdan al Rubaie, Chairman of the Omani Lawyers Association, attributed the success of the initiative to the solidarity of the Omani community. 'This would not have been possible without the generosity of individuals and institutions who contributed to the initiative,' he said, encouraging continued support. Since its launch in 2012, Fak Kurbah has facilitated the release of over 7,110 prisoners.

Muscat: The Health and Social Committee of Majlis Al Shura has hailed the Royal orders of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on allocation of OMR7 million for the establishment of the Autism Spectrum Disorder Care and Rehabilitation Centre . The committee pointed out that these orders reflect the Royal Care and attention for the persons with disabilities and the keenness for providing an environment that meet their needs and help them achieve their independence and facilitate their integration in society. The committee reaffirmed the keenness of Majlis Al Shura for taking care of this sector of society. The committee has held several meetings during which it hosted specialists and officials from the civil society establishments and associations including the Omani Lawyers Association (OLA), and Oman Energy Association as part of its efforts to review the civil establishments draft law. During the meeting, the committee reaffirmed its keenness for the participation of the various departments and parties concerned in the review of the draft law and for obtaining their opinion and observations on the draft law. These meetings come within a series of consultations made by the committee with the various departments for rephrasing an integrated draft law that meet aspirations of society and keep abreast with the legislative developments. It is worth mentioning that the civil establishments draft law aims to empower the civil establishments to perform their role for this segment of society, provide and contribute to sustainable development. MUSCAT: The 12th Fak Kurba Initiative has successfully secured the release of 999 financially distressed individuals since its launch before Ramadhan. This edition, launched on February 25, under the auspices of Dr Hamad bin Hamdan al Rubaie, Chairman of the Omani Lawyers Association (OLA), has so far secured the release of more than 8,000 individuals over the years. Dr Al Rubaie affirmed that the efforts of those involved in the initiative are ongoing to secure the release of more cases. He highlighted the significant support the initiative has been receiving from institutions, companies and individuals. "And this year, the initiative aimed to secure the release of as many individuals who are detained for small financial offences with the participation of community members and various institutions from across the country," he said. Al Rubaei thanked all supporters who have contributed to the initiative's success. Al Rubaie highlighted that since its inception, the initiative has embodied the noble values and objectives upheld by Omani society. It reflects a remarkable story of cooperation and solidarity among individuals, civil institutions, and official entities. "This has been evident in the statistics and achievements recorded throughout previous editions, as well as assisting as many deserving individuals as possible." Most of the people who were acquitted of minor and unintentional financial offences in the past 12 years, were those who were facing legal proceedings or detained for financial offences. He further said that the initiative has succeeded in securing the release of all eligible cases in the Governorate of Dhofar. "In 2024 alone, we managed to secure the release of 1,219 people detained for financial offences in various jails of Oman or were facing legal proceedings in different courts of the country," he said.
