Fak Kurbah helps release 999 individuals in Oman
Muscat – The 12th edition of the Omani Lawyers Association's Fak Kurbah initiative has successfully freed 999 people so far across the sultanate since its launch at the beginning of Ramadan.
Fak Kurbah initiative aims at securing the release of individuals imprisoned due to financial insolvency.
The initiative has brought renewed hope to families and offered beneficiaries a fresh start. Of the total 999, the released individuals come from various governorates, with Muscat recording the highest number at 202, followed by North Batinah (118), Buraimi (55), Dhofar (43), North Sharqiyah (22), Dakhliyah (16), and South Sharqiyah (7).
Additionally, 16 cases are from Dhahirah, seven from South Sharqiyah, four each from South Batinah and Musandam, and one from Al Wusta.
Launched in February, the campaign aims to support approximately 1,300 individuals this year through community contributions and institutional partnerships ending on April 22.
Last year, Fak Kurbah helped secure the release of 1,219 individuals. The initiative is part of the Omani Lawyers Association's ongoing efforts to promote humanitarian work within Omani society.
Dr Hamad bin Hamdan al Rubaie, Chairman of the Omani Lawyers Association, attributed the success of the initiative to the solidarity of the Omani community. 'This would not have been possible without the generosity of individuals and institutions who contributed to the initiative,' he said, encouraging continued support.
Since its launch in 2012, Fak Kurbah has facilitated the release of over 7,110 prisoners.

OLA signs agreements with insurance companies
The Omani Lawyers Association (OLA) signed a number of agreements with insurance companies operating in the Sultanate of Oman following the amendments issued in the new Omani Lawyers Law, promulgated by Royal Decree No 41/2024. This law requires law firms to insure themselves against professional errors. The signing took place at the headquarters of the Oman Lawyers Association (OLA) on Tuesday. The agreements were made with Arabia Falcon Insurance Company SAOG, Dhofar Insurance and Oman United Insurance Company SAOG. They will cover professional services such as legal consulting, judicial representation, legal documentation, arbitration and mediation. Additionally, they will cover employee breach of trust, loss of documents, defamation, slander, copyright infringement, breach of confidentiality, and loss mitigation clauses, all of which are automatically covered. "In a groundbreaking move to enhance the professional protection of lawyers and improve the quality of legal practice, the Oman Lawyers Association has signed agreements with insurance companies in the Sultanate of Oman to protect against possible errors by law firms," said Dr Hamad bin Hamdan al Rubaie, Chairman of the Board of Directors of OLA. The purpose of these agreements is to establish cooperation between the Association and insurance companies to provide professional liability insurance policies to lawyers and law firms. This will enhance the legal and professional protection of lawyers while they practice their profession. The agreements also cover financial losses resulting from professional errors, negligence, and omissions during legal practice, as well as legal expenses related to any claim covered under the policy. Furthermore, the agreements will allow lawyers and their families to obtain comprehensive or third-party insurance for their private vehicles at preferential rates and favourable terms in accordance with the Unified Insurance Policy issued in Oman. An insurance company stated that this initiative will create a safe professional environment for law firms. By forging agreements with insurance companies, appropriate and effective insurance solutions against professional liability will be provided to lawyers and law firms in Oman according to the terms and specifications in each agreement. However, it's important to note that these policies do not cover intentional acts, war, terrorism, cyber risks, insolvency, delays, infectious diseases, contractual liability and other exclusions as specified in the policy terms.

SSC achieves 100% Omanisation, plans expansion in security services
Muscat – The Security and Safety Services Corporation (SSC) has reaffirmed its role as a pioneering model of public-private partnership in the Sultanate of Oman, providing specialised security and safety solutions across sectors while achieving a 100% Omanisation rate. Retired Brigadier Saeed bin Sulaiman al Asmi, CEO of SSC, told the Oman News Agency (ONA) that the corporation now employs over 12,210 Omani citizens from all governorates and has successfully absorbed 665 new employees since the beginning of this year. The number is expected to rise to 2,000 by May 2026, in line with national employment goals. The corporation offers a diverse range of services built on more than 35 years of operational expertise and judicial policing authority. In cooperation with the Ministry of Labour, SSC has actively contributed to labour law enforcement, arresting 23,566 violators and deporting 18,053 in 2023. From January to May this year, it apprehended 12,319 violators, with 7,615 deported. SSC is also engaged in coastal surveillance, working with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources to monitor illegal fishing activities using drones and specialised vehicles. More than 400 citizens have been trained in this field as part of ongoing capacity-building efforts. The CEO underlined the corporation's commitment to high-quality service through continuous training and development, with 1,800 citizens qualified annually for roles such as security guards. Looking ahead, SSC aims to expand into industrial firefighting and occupational health services using advanced artificial firefighting technologies. Plans are also underway to establish regional branches to enhance service reach and response capacity across Oman.
