Rylan Clark admits 'I've been to rock bottom' as he shares divorce 'regret'
Rylan Clark confesses he 'reached rock bottom' after 'running himself into the ground' during his marriage breakdown. The 36-year-old presenter separated from former Big Brother star Dan Neal in 2021.
Their six-year union came to an end after the former X Factor hopeful acknowledged he had been disloyal earlier in their romance. Whilst Rylan now recognises the separation was the "right thing" for both parties, he has been candid about his difficulties throughout the divorce.
The ordeal forced the celebrity to take four months away from work and also resulted in a stint in hospital, reports the Manchester Evening News. Speaking on his How to Be In Love podcast, Rylan has revealed how he felt following the end of his relationship with Dan.
He said: "I can safely say at this point that I have been to rock bottom, whatever you want to call it, and I know I'm never going to let myself go back there. But what that has equally done for me is make me cautious.
"It's made me very, very frightened to open myself up to someone. It's made me frightened to trust someone, and I'm not as confident as my work persona in my personal life."
Self-help guru Mel Robbins informed Rylan that reaching "rock bottom" is "a gift". She explained: "All a rock bottom moment is, is really quite a gift, you know it's a rock bottom moment because you hit something solid inside yourself, and that's a resolve to change.
"A rock bottom moment is when the pain of staying where you are is actually harder than doing the work that you have been avoiding to get better. That's all that it is."
Rylan, the Saturday afternoon host on Radio 2, expressed his "biggest regret" was how he handled his break up. He confessed: "I don't regret anything about my relationship finishing or anything like that, I've learnt a lot from that.
"Just the way I handled it, I drove myself into the ground when really, I wish I looked back and went, 'Hang on, you're fine, this is fine'. I wish I'd never got as bad as I did because of my own way, I was thinking it's the end of the world."
Previously, Rylan has spoken about feeling like a "failure" following his divorce. In a conversation with former Love Islander Tasha Ghouri, he revealed: "When I went through my divorce, I had a full-on breakdown because it wasn't just us.
"It felt like it wasn't just us, even though it was just me and my ex. I felt that everyone's going to think this of me. Everyone's going to think, 'Oh look, his life isn't perfect. Oh look, he's failed like that.' I just felt like a failure."
In his autobiography, TEN: The Decade That Changed My Future, the star opened up about preparing himself for a new relationship. He penned: "I got in a relationship quite young and just went with it. Now I know I'm my own person. I'm not going to settle for something that's not right. In a way it's been a bit of a gift.
"I'm happy to have sex with someone and that's that, that's not a problem. But do I want more? Of course I want more. Am I going to enjoy myself on the way? Abso-f***ing-lutely."

Fans are now worried that Nick may be kicked out after being sabotaged, as they took to X, formerly known as Twitter to discuss. "Well, josh is going to sabotage nick isn't he? #destinationx," guessed one before he had even chosen. Another, who thought the advantage was unfair, said: "Whoever gets their X moved should get to come back in the final and move a remaining player's X". "Moving the X is so unfair. Nick will be gone," a third wrote, as another agreed: "This is such an unfair power this isn't Big Brother it should be a case where players can basically eliminate others." At the end of the episodes, whichever contestant guesses the furthest from the correct locale is kicked off the bus, and their journey comes to a sad end. Therefore, with Nick's X being moved so far away from the position he chose, will his journey come to an end? It's not the first episode that fans have had a complaint to make about the show. Last week, fans all took to X to complain that they were 'getting annoyed' with the show and the sheer lack of knowledge that the contestants seemed to possess. It features 13 strangers competing to scoop £100,000 as they're whisked across Europe and try to work out their location through various challenges. In tonight's instalment (Wednesday, 13 August), the participants were challenged with carrying wine glasses across a vineyard on a tray held by one hand, whilst answering questions about one another in an attempt to eliminate their rivals. The more responses they got wrong, the more glasses they had to balance, resulting in several being knocked out when their trays tumbled, reports the Manchester Evening News. Yet viewers were swift to spot that whilst the BBC episode featured sounds of glass shattering, the contestants seemed to be using plastic.
