Pittsburgh-area war hero heading to trial on child rape accusations
A Pittsburgh-area war hero's rape case is going to trial.
Brandon Rumbaugh, a decorated Marine veteran, today waived his preliminary hearing in the case that accuses him of raping a 13-year-old girl multiple times in his Pleasant Hill home.
The case will proceed to Rumbaugh's formal arraignment, which is scheduled for Aug. 7.
Rumbaugh is a double amputee who lost both of his legs after stepping on an IED in Afghanistan.

The girl also noted Rumbaugh didn't have legs, and that on one of the nights, there was another person sleeping in the room while Rumbaugh allegedly sexually assaulted her.
According to detectives, Rumbaugh told the victim to keep this a secret until she was 18 years old.
Police say there is surveillance video of Rumbaugh and the girl in a Sheetz, where you see Rumbaugh purchasing alcohol.
A judge denied Rumbaugh bond May 28.

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) – Federal authorities handcuffed a man in East Los Angeles on Thursday who allegedly handed out face shields during an immigration protest. His detainment sparked a backlash from local residents. FBI agents handcuffed Alejandro Theodoro Orellana for allegedly 'distributing face shields to suspected rioters' on Tuesday, U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli posted on the social media platform X. The post included a photo of the suspect, along with a broadcast clip from Fox News appearing to show a man providing masks to protestors from the back of a pickup truck. Protesters attempt to disturb ICE agents at Los Angeles-area hotels 'We are moving quickly to identify and arrest those involved in organizing and/or supporting civil disorder in Los Angeles,' Essayli stated in the post. An LA resident living in the area of East 6th Street and South Rowan Avenue told Nexstar's KTLA that he knew Orellana — not very well — but was unaware of any criminal activity on Orellana's part. 'No, nothing of the sort. Nothing at all. No one in this block have I heard any, you know, bad news from or any gossip,' the resident said. Protests over immigration raids continue across the US with more planned At the time of the interview, the resident said he was not aware of why authorities had detained Orellana. He did say, however, that he awoke on Thursday to the sound of flash bangs and calls from authorities to stay indoors. Video shared to showed a small crowd shouting at law enforcement near East 6th Street and South Ditman Avenue around 6:30 a.m. One person is seen using a bullhorn while another is heard shouting expletives at deputies. 2 men charged with kidnapping person, demanding ransom from family in Pittsburgh
New details are emerging in a kidnapping and ransom case that ended at Frick Park, one of the city's busiest public spaces. Police say the suspects demanded a $150,000 ransom drop at the park's bleachers, where the victim's family ultimately delivered $22,000 in cash inside a Giant Eagle bag. Pittsburgh police have charged Donald Wilson, 36, of Pittsburgh and Anthony Bailey, 45, of Pittsburgh, with kidnapping, among other serious offenses. According to investigators, the crime began around 1 a.m. last Wednesday, when the suspects broke into a Pittsburgh home. They allegedly entered a bedroom, held the victim at gunpoint while they were asleep, and demanded drugs and money. Court documents reveal the suspects tied the victim's hands and feet, ordering them to keep their eyes closed or risk being killed. One suspect allegedly threatened, 'I've killed people for free, and I cut off toes for fun.' The suspects then forced the victim into a car and drove to the East Exit Motel in Monroeville, where they continued to demand ransom money from the victim's family. Park visitors who frequent the area say they were stunned to learn what happened. 'This is my sacred place to walk,' said Tonya Magwood, a local resident. 'It's serene, peaceful. To hear about a ransom drop—I was shocked.' John Cornack, who runs a children's camp at Frick Park every summer, called the situation 'concerning.' 'We'll be keeping an extra eye out,' Cornack said. 'We want to make sure people feel safe on these courts and on these bleachers. This is such a beautiful place.' Police were able to identify and locate the suspects through surveillance footage from the motel, where Bailey checked in using his real ID, and ride-share records from Lyft. The ride history helped investigators track movements to and from the motel while the victim was being held. One suspect was later arrested after a SWAT standoff at a residence in Pittsburgh. Before releasing the victim on a nearby street, the suspects reportedly took their cell phone and other personal belongings. The victim was able to get help from a family member and is now safe, according to police. Pittsburgh police have not released the name or gender of the victim in order to protect their identity. Pennsylvania man sentenced to 23 years in prison for drugs, money laundering
PITTSBURGH, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Pennsylvania man was sentenced to more than two decades in federal court after a drug trafficking and money laundering operation spanning from the Pittsburgh area to California. Andrew Beatty, 41, of Crafton was sentenced to 23 years, followed by 5 years of supervised release by US District Judge Cathy Bissoon after an extensive investigation found Beatty was the leader of a large-scale Pittsburgh-area drug trafficking organization with associates in California assisting the operation. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), along with multiple federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, uncovered that Beatty and associates would coordinate shipments of heroin and cocaine hidden within vehicles that were then transported via commercial car carriers from California to Pennsylvania. In December of 2013 by DEA agents and the Ohio Highway Patrol conducted a traffic stop of a car-carrier truck that housed a car that Beatty had shipped to the Mexican organization in California. After a search of that car, $130,000 was seized. According to the authorities, after that incident, Beatty would go on to use a Colombian broker to arrange the transport of money to the Mexican organization. What the associates were not aware of was that the broker was an undercover DEA agent. That agent would go on to receive almost $225,000 each time from Beatty or his associates. Throughout early 2014, multiple searches occurred of cars as well as storage lockers of Beatty's that found heroin, cocaine, money, and guns. Beatty was convicted on multiple counts of conspiracy to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and a kilogram or more of heroin and conspiracy to launder drug trafficking proceeds.
