'Important' C-listed Scottish hotel has £300k cut from asking price
The former Loch Earn hotel, in St Fillans in Perthshire, was put on the market for offers over £795,000 in February, but has so far failed to sell. Agents Christie and Co have now announced that the asking price has been cut to offers over £500,000. The hotel's primary building is a C-Listed Victorian-styled property, which Historic Environment Scotland (HES) describes as 'by far the most prominent building in St Fillans'. READ MORE: £3m rescue deal saves historic hotel following administration HES further calls it 'an important example of a hotel, which evolved from a small inn in the earlier 19th century through a series of additions and includes the original hall of the St Fillans Highland Society, a rare survival'. The hotel was sold by Arran Brewery in 2021 after troubles with a fire on the property, compounded by the impact of the pandemic. The current owner obtained planning permission to convert the site into 22 serviced apartments for holiday use, as well as developing an external building into accommodation for an on-site manager. Agents Christie and Co said: 'The property is ideally situated and offers fantastic views across Loch Earn. READ MORE: Council announces plans for 95 new homes in Highland village 'The building previously traded as a hotel with bar, restaurant and brewery and although will now require significant investment, the potential to reinstate to its former use would be extremely rewarding for the right developer/operator.' It also includes 10 moorings, three piers, and a private slipway which provides access to Loch Earn. Loch Earn is a popular holiday destination in the east of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. It sits at the foot of the route up two Munros: Ben Vorlich and Stùc a' Chròin.

Historic home with links to wartime Prime Minister goes on market
Described as being in a 'picturesque' hamlet of Newton of Falkland, the property has connections stretching back to the roots of distilling and malting in Fife. Alexandrer Bonthrone established Stratheden Distillery in 1829 in nearby Auchermuchty and was also an adviser to former Prime Minister Herbert Asquith, prior to him taking the country to war in 1914. His brother John was one of Scotland's first commercial maltsters and helped develop the Fife and Kinross Railway before ceasing production of whisky in 1926. Newton House (Image: Handout) Newton House has mainly been used as a holiday or short-term rental property in recent years but is now on the market for offer over £785,000. The property retains unchanged features from when it was built, including the original grand timber staircases and radiators. It's long history has also seen it serve as a convalescent home during World War I and an accommodation for Polish airmen in World War II. Read More Features such as sash and case windows, ornate cornicing, chandeliers and fireplaces, redolent of the Victorian period, also remain while 2 modern en-suite shower rooms have been added. The current owner of the property has also restored the home with 'charming flourishes' from the Bonthrones era, and it has three spacious reception rooms, two games room and an outdoor patio. The nearby Falkland is also home to a modern museum of whisky collections.

You can see the 29 most impressive castles in Wales here. One particular castle you should add to your bucket list is Caldicot Castle. This large stone medieval castle is in the town of Caldicot, Monmouthshire, and it became a Grade I listed building in 1953. Founded by the Normans, developed in royal hands as a stronghold in the Middle Ages and restored as a Victorian family home, the castle has a long history dating back over 900 years and is set within 55 acres of parkland overlooking the river Nedern. Caldicot Castle was built on a site recognised for its strategic value. The Romans used the area in the early centuries AD, when Caldicot stood on the Via Julia roadway to Caerwent. The Normans also recognised its useful location as early as 1086, and they built a motte with two baileys and a deep surrounding ditch to control this area of south Wales. In 1221, a curtain wall and two corner towers were also added. Over the centuries, this magnificent castle has had various owners, undergone multiple modifications and renovations, and been transformed from a defensive fortress into a sumptuous residence. The castle was eventually purchased by the antiquarian JR Cobb in 1855. Cobb restored Caldicot to its medieval grandeur, and today, it's one of Wales' heritage treasures and a magnificent wedding venue.
