Anwar affirms commitment to addressing people's concerns at MP retreat
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the unity government remains steadfast in its commitment to the country's prosperity.
"This is a special occasion as we have the PM, both deputy prime ministers, and several Cabinet ministers in a village where we discussed issues faced by the people and how best we can resolve them.
"From a macroeconomic perspective, our economic growth is good with low inflation and unemployment, but there still seems to be some worry at the lower level. Let me assure you that the Madani government is here to hear you out," he said at the Gotong Royong Kenduri Rakyat programme at Dataran Kg Pachitan.
Also present were his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, deputy prime ministers Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, and several Cabinet ministers.
MPs participated in the three-day retreat, interacting with the people during several activities.
The programme aims to foster closer ties between elected representatives and the people in a relaxed environment.
It also seeks to allow them to engage directly with the people and offer a platform for voicing needs and concerns.
Anwar said his administration would always consider grassroots opinions before making any decisions.
He noted that the unity within the Madani government remains strong, with a focus on the agenda to ensure continued national development.
"We want to continue to develop this country, and I must say the understanding among us is extraordinary. We remain focused on the tasks before us," he added.

The celebration will feature cultural performances by the National Department of Culture and Arts (Permata Seni), showcasing traditional folk dances and choir performances that reflect the region's cultural diversity. Asean Member States will also showcase their traditional arts, handicrafts and merchandise through national exhibition booths. MCMC to record Muhyiddin's statement over RON95 subsidy claim

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission says it has contacted former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin to record his statement in its probe into a claim on the RON95 subsidy. In a statement MCMC said that Muhyiddin would be questioned as a witness. 'The focus of the probe is to confirm the context of the content that was uploaded. 'The probe does not include any claims or allegations levelled against him.' MCMC also said it would be contacting the relevant individuals to complete its probe. Yesterday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim ordered MCMC to look into his claim that Muhyiddin had defended the distribution of government subsidies to foreigners. In a statement, the Prime Minister's Office said it acknowledged the Perikatan Nasional chairman's denial of ever making such a statement involving targeted RON95 petrol subsidy. On Tuesday, Sinar Harian quoted Anwar as saying that Muhyiddin, who is also the Bersatu president, had questioned the government for burdening foreigners when they have also made significant contributions to the country. Anwar said the government had decided on targeted subsidies for electricity and RON95 petrol so that it could continue helping Malaysians while reducing the nation's fiscal deficit. Muhyiddin later denied having made such a statement and urged Anwar to furnish proof of his claim. The former prime minister said Anwar's claim was slanderous and that his stand from the beginning was that government subsidies should be for Malaysians, not foreigners.

UTM AI faculty receives over 60 international applications for 2nd cohort
JOHOR BARU: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Faculty of Artificial Intelligence (FAI), the first of its kind in the country, continues to attract international students with over 60 applications received for the second cohort in October. The faculty's dean Prof Dr Mohd Naz'ri Mahrin said the number involved international candidates who applied directly to UTM without going through the University Admissions Unit (UPU). "Our first cohort currently consists of 114 students, including 14 international students from China, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and the Middle East. For the October cohort, over 60 international student applications are already on the list, but not yet finalised," he told Bernama recently. He said the encouraging response was driven by UTM's global reputation, which is currently ranked 153rd in the QS World University Rankings, as well as international recognition of its academic programmes offered. In addition, UTM's position in the top 100 in the QS subject ranking for Data Science and AI is also among the factors contributing to the confidence of applicants in pursuing their studies with FAI UTM. "For example, international students choose UTM because our certificates are recognised and enables them to continue their studies or work in other countries such as Canada, Australia and the United States. "Moreover, Malaysia is also more strategic and the cost of living is lower than countries like Singapore," he said. He said the Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence with Honours programme at FAI UTM is offered for three years, with three semesters per year, and includes four main branches, namely Robotics & Automation, Intelligence Informatics and Creative AI. He said that the faculty is also supported by more than 60 lecturers specialised in the field of AI in addition to 40 experts from the field of Engineering, bringing the total academic and support staff to 150 at present. "This faculty received an initial allocation of RM20 million. "Apart from training experts in the field of AI, we are also responsible for helping other public universities develop their own AI programmes or faculty," he said. UTM's AI Faculty was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on May 10, 2024, which among other things aims to train AI talent with knowledge, skills, ethics, and competencies in the field of AI with a focus on attracting domestic and foreign investors while strengthening the local industry. — Bernama
