Toronto man identified as victim of drowning in Prince Edward County
According to the OPP, officers with the Prince Edward County detachment were called to a resort on County Road 18 shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday for a reported drowning.
'When officers arrived, members of Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue, Hastings-Quinte Paramedics and civilians were attempting life-saving measures,' police said in a news release issued Monday. 'The individual was rushed to hospital but was later pronounced deceased.'
He was subsequently identified as a 51-year-old man from Toronto.
On Sunday, shortly before 6 p.m., officers were called to a location along County Road 11 for a water rescue in the area.
Police said it was reported that a group had been out in two canoes on East Lake when they decided to go swimming and could not get back into the canoes.
'One person made it to shore, and a bystander went out in his boat and pulled two other individuals from the water. The final person could not be located,' the news release read.
Police did not confirm the identity of the missing person.
Divers with the police service's underwater search and recovery unit will continue their search of East Lake today, the OPP said.

Shot fired at vehicle during road rage incident

The incident happened around 11 p.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of Riverside Drive East. When officers arrived on scene, they located a vehicle with damage to its rear window consistent with a gunshot. According to police, two vehicles were heading east on Riverside Drive when one driver reportedly yelled obscenities at the complainant. Then, someone in the vehicle allegedly shot a gun at the complainant's car. The suspect vehicle fled the scene, and no physical injuries have been reported. The suspect vehicle is described as a late model, four-door sedan, possibly grey or chocolate brown in colour. The driver is described as a black man in his 20s. Two other occupants were seen in the vehicle, though no descriptions are currently available. The Major Crimes Unit is investigation the incident and are asking residents and business owners to review dashcam or surveillance footage between 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on July 26 for any relevant evidence. Three charged after early-morning metal theft in Palmerston
Three people are facing charges after allegedly stealing metal from a business in Palmerston early Saturday morning. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police were called just before 4 a.m. for a report of three males stealing metal from a local business. Police said the suspects fled the scene when officers arrived, but were later located and arrested. A 33-year-old from Listowel, a 35-year-old from Listowel and a 40-year-old from Atwood have all been charged with theft under $5,000, possession of break-in instruments and break and enter.

Driver charged after allegedly fleeing from Toronto police, hitting parked cars

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Spencer Colby Toronto police have arrested a man after he allegedly hit several vehicles while attempting to flee from officers following a traffic stop. In a release, police said they responded to reports of a person with a gun just before 1:30 a.m. in the area of King Street West and Portland Street on July 26. The suspect was driving a silver Volkswagen and allegedly pointed a gun at someone near the intersection, they said. When officers found the vehicle, they ordered the driver to turn off the vehicle and step out, but they said he did not comply. Instead, police said the driver reversed the car and struck a scooter and a vehicle on the road, before turning into an alleyway and hitting another parked car. Officers followed the vehicle and were able to arrest the driver a short time later. Mrunmay Ukey, 27, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with fail to stop for police and dangerous operation. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in September.
