Toyota has given the little Aygo X a big facelift, introducing hybrid technology and a 'GR Sport' trim level for the first time. Meet the car that wants to be a GR Yaris when it grows up. In looks if not in performance.
Because that new e-powertrain is shared with the regular versions of its Yaris and Yaris Cross siblings: a 114bhp 1.5-litre three-pot with a small electric motor and battery all powering the front wheels. It's a mild-hybrid (so it charges itself), and for this outing, Toyota has mounted the battery cell stacks in a longitudinal layout for better packaging.

Toyota's binned the old 1.0-litre three-pot and manual gearbox, opting instead for a CVT auto. Fret not, because the new hybrid heart gets the Aygo X from 0-62mph in a shade under 10s - an almost five-second improvement over the outgoing ICE-only package.
And Toyota reckons the new Aygo X emits just 86g/km (WLTP), making it the lowest-rated non-PHEV around. Quite the stat to boast to friends about.
Looks good, too - chunky, robust. The Aygo X's redesigned body sits atop Toyota's GA-B platform, and features more angular headlights and longer overhangs (by 76mm) to accommodate the bigger engine. You'll have a choice of 17/18in alloys to wedge beneath the wider arches, and black paint draped along the roof and rear sections.
Inside, it's business as usual: space for four, lots of recycled fabrics for the upholstery and an unchanged 231-litre boot. Fronted by a 7in digital display, other tech includes two USB-C charging ports, a wireless phone charger and Toyota's Safety Sense pack as standard. You know, pre-collision warning, lane assist, emergency stop, that sorta thing. Customers can also update these OTA in a first for the Aygo X.

As for that GR Sport trim, it won't get any more power, but it will get bespoke shocks and springs, plus a sharper steering setup said to improve cornering dynamics. Visual changes include the 'G-pattern' mesh grille and black bonnet.
UK sales will begin towards the end of this year, with further details announced over the coming months.

Peugeot's e-208 now does 268 miles of range and gets bidirectional charging
Electric The hybrid also receives a small power boost, peaking at 145bhp Skip 1 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Nope, not quite the GTI-coated news many are hoping for, but Peugeot has issued the 208 supermini with a few minor upgrades across the lineup. At least it's something. For starters, the e-208's largest battery option, a 48.1kWh pack, now delivers an extra 14 miles of range to a new WLTP total of 268 miles. That's connected to an unchanged 156bhp electric motor. Advertisement - Page continues below Its onboard cable - 7kW as standard or 11kW optional - has also been recast to offer bidirectional charging. It means vehicle-to-load technology for the first time in the e-208, allowing a pulse of up to 3kW to power external devices. The 208 hybrid also benefits from a slight power boost, with its 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder now offered in two increased outputs: 110 or 145bhp. That's a jump of around 10bhp from before. You might like Peugeot has used the refresh to introduce a new range-topping trim across the board too, dubbed 'GT Premium'. It'll add wireless phone charging, Alcantara upholstery with green stitching and heated massage front seats. These build on the existing features, include multicolour ambient lighting, a 10in infotainment screen and a competitively-sized boot that stows up to 311 litres of goods. Advertisement - Page continues below Pricing for the GT premium grade starts at £28,295 for the hybrid, before jumping to £34,000 for the electric sibling. Remember when superminis were cheap? Kia has facelifted the Sportage and added a 236bhp, AWD hybrid option
Kia has facelifted the Sportage and added a 236bhp, AWD hybrid option A 148bhp pure-combustion model will also be available when it lands this summer Skip 20 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Turn on Javascript to see all the available pictures. 1 / 20 This is the new Kia Sportage: a familiar recipe but with a fresh face, tweaked interior and a choice of combustion or hybrid powertrains. No need to drastically change something that's sold over *seven million* copies, right? The entry-level car will get a 1.6-litre turbo four-pot producing 148bhp, mated to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DCT gearbox. Alternatively, that same engine can be had with a bit of e-motor assistance for up to 236bhp. Both will come with front-wheel drive as standard, but the hybrid gets the option of AWD. Advertisement - Page continues below Kia's styled in its rugged 'tiger nose' grille between the 'star map' light signatures. The Sportage's front bumper design is consistent with its siblings, including that almost triangular fog lamp casing and trim space between the upper and lower grille. Those funky alloys can be had in 17-19in sizes. Inside, there's a simple two-spoke steering wheel, hidden air vents to create a minimalist look, many cubbyholes for exhausted juice cartons and a panoramic roof. Various fabrics and artificial leathers will upholster the seats, while the door cards use microfibre suede. You'll also get a pair of 12.3in panoramic screens glued together and a 10in head-up display. This lot is controlled through the Kia Connect operating system, which issues OTA updates as and when needed and oversees the safety suite - automatic emergency braking, evasive steering assist and so on. As for space, it's 562 litres in the boot for the pure-ICE car, which grows to 1,751 litres with the rear seats folded. The hybrid gains an extra 25 litres on both counts. Check out Japan's newest and cutest single-seater, the MiBot
Check out Japan's newest and cutest single-seater, the MiBot This dinky EV from Japanese start-up KG Motors is too adorable for words Skip 3 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Turn on Javascript to see all the available pictures. 1 / 3 We've not seen anything this cute since Fiat launched the roofless Topolino. Say konnichiwa to the MiBot, which comes to you via the medium of Japanese start-up KG Motors. Some 26 centimetres narrower than a Citroen Ami, the dinky EV is less than 1.5m tall, just over 1.1m wide and a smidgen under 2.5m long – basically the size of a cereal box. Advertisement - Page continues below A single-seater cereal box with a monocoque body, tiny 12in rims, an electric range of 62 miles, a maximum speed of 37mph (faster than the Ami's 28mph), and a battery that recharges in about five hours. You can park it anywhere of course because look at it, and carry up to 45kg of cargo (cereal?), while the MiBot offers such luxuries as a heated seat, a touchscreen, some speakers, and fancy glass that protects you from baking like a croissant. Plus, there's air-con! The Mobilize Bento-rivalling EV – similarly primed for short journeys and solo errand-running – has undergone rigorous winter testing and safety checks, though videos of it cornering are worryingly reminiscent of the Mk1 Fiat Seicento. It launched with a price of only £5,644 (¥1.1m, by today's forex prices), and the Hiroshima-based manufacturer has already taken over 2,200 pre-orders, up from the modest 300 it had originally planned. The company's now revising its production schedule. Advertisement - Page continues below Yep, you want one. Let the global kei-car takeover commence.
