M'sian drivers who jump queue at S'pore checkpoints risk ban, warns ICA
PETALING JAYA : Singapore has warned motorists, including Malaysians, that they risk severe penalties, including blacklisting and a possible ban, if they jump queue at the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints.
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said it will be on the lookout for inconsiderate drivers, especially in view of the June school holidays, The Straits Times reported.
Mardiana Masdar, team leader at the integrated operations centre at the Woodlands checkpoint, said ground officers who spot vehicles jumping queue will alert the team at the operations centre.
They will relay this information to traffic controllers near the checkpoint to direct them to make a U-turn to rejoin the queue.
'If they are non-compliant, we will refer them to our secondary office, where we are able to show them CCTV footage of them cutting queue,' she said.
In June 2023, a Malaysian driver travelling from Singapore to Malaysia via the Woodlands checkpoint had refused to make a U-turn, and even drove off after being caught by ICA for trying to jump the queue.
Because of his non-compliance and dangerous driving, the driver and car were banned from entering Singapore.
The ICA said traffic is expected to be heavy at both land checkpoints during the June school holidays, particularly during the Hari Raya Haji weekend between June 6 and June 9.
The authority said that during the long Wesak Day weekend between May 8 and May 13, more than three million travellers crossed the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints.
The traffic volume peaked on May 9, with more than 546,000 travellers clearing immigration at both checkpoints in one day.

The legal team said the newly recalled detail warranted a fresh investigation into Zara Qairina's death — despite Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stating yesterday that police had completed their probe and would be handing the investigation papers to the Attorney General's Chambers next week. 'Zara Qairina's grave must be exhumed immediately and a post-mortem must be conducted to determine the exact cause of death and whether any criminal elements were involved,' they said. Zara Qairina was found unconscious at around 4am on July 16 after allegedly falling from the third floor of her hostel at a religious boarding school in Papar. She died the following day at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu. The death of the 13-year-old has garnered national attention, with some — including family members — alleging a lack of transparency in the investigation. Post-mortem finds baby's skull fractured, repeated abuse by foster mum linked to crying, says acting KL police chief
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 — Police have confirmed that a seven-month-old baby girl found dead at a home in Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Cheras, last Thursday died from multiple injuries across her body. Acting Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said a post-mortem revealed the infant had suffered a fractured skull. He said the injuries and death were the result of ongoing abuse over the past month. 'Investigations revealed that the injuries were caused after the baby cried incessantly, leading the foster mother to allegedly abuse her,' he told Utusan Malaysia. He added that the woman's husband works as a salesman, while she is a homemaker. 'Further investigations are ongoing to complete the case file,' he said. Earlier, the couple was arrested after the baby was found unconscious, with bluish skin and bruises on her body, in the living room of their home. A man lodged a police report at 9.34pm, claiming his adopted daughter had lost consciousness for unknown reasons. Following the report, police arrested the 38-year-old woman and her 50-year-old husband under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 (Act 611). The foster mother also tested positive for drugs. Initial investigations found that the baby had been under the woman's care since 18 June, after her biological mother returned to Indonesia.
