NEET PG 2025 To Be Held On August 3; Supreme Court Approves Date Extension Request

The Supreme Court on Friday allowed the National Board of Examinations (NBE)'s petition seeking permission to conduct the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for postgraduate courses (NEET-PG) 2025 on August 3.
A bench comprising Justice PK Mishra and Justice AG Masih, while delivering the order, said, "We are satisfied that the prayer for extension of time to reschedule the exam to August 3, 2025, is bona fide."
"Accordingly, the time allowed by our order dated May 30 is extended, and NBE is permitted to hold the exam on August 3, 2025. No further extension shall be granted," the bench added.
Initially, while hearing NBE's petition, the bench expressed concern over the delay and asked, "Why do you need two months?"
The NBE informed the court that there are approximately 2.5 lakh candidates and around 450 centres. Since the exam is to be held in a single shift, at least 500 centres are required. Identifying centres, arranging security measures, and allowing students to select test centres will take time.
Justice PK Mishra questioned NBE, "You want time till August 3? Why so much time?"
Justice AG Masih added, "You haven't started the process even though the order was passed on May 30. What have you done since then? This is causing unnecessary delay. Why do you need two months?"
Justice Masih further expressed concern about the time being sought.
The NBE responded that TCS, their technical partner, could explain the situation.
Justice Masih remarked, "Unfortunately for you, we know how TCS works. Students are studying, and admissions will be delayed."
However, both the Centre and NBE maintained that more time was necessary to conduct the examination in a single shift. Ultimately, the Supreme Court allowed their request.
On May 30, the Supreme Court had ordered NBE to conduct the examination in one shift instead of two.
Subsequently, NBE filed an application citing practical and technical difficulties in conducting the NEET PG examination in a single shift on June 15.
NBE informed the top court that TCS, the technical partner for conducting the examination, stated August 3 as the earliest possible date to hold NEET PG in a single shift.

SC refuses to hear petition on animal sacrifice at Vishalgad
Kolhapur: The Supreme Court on Friday refused to hear an urgent petition filed against an order passed by Bombay high court allowing animal sacrifice in a dargah at Vishalgad in Kolhapur on Bakri-Eid. The counsel, comprising Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, said the high court had allowed animal sacrifice for Urs from June 8 to June 12. On June 3, a vacation bench of the high court, comprising Justices Dr Neela Gokhale and Firdosh Pooniwalla, noted that a detailed order on June 14, 2024, allowed sacrifice of animals and birds in "a closed and private area" near the Dargah and not in any "open or public place". Meanwhile, a heavy police force was deployed at Vishalgad, ahead of Bakri Eid on Saturday. Superintendent of Kolhapur Police, Yogesh Kumar Gupta, said, "A meeting has been conducted by all the stakeholders from administration like the collector's office, forest department, revenue department, animal husbandry, and police. A heavy police force, along with SRPF troop, has been deployed at the fort. We will follow the court orders. " Members of the Hindu outfits demanded, through a written statement, that the administration should not allow Urus to take place at the fort and that surveillance via CCTV cameras should be maintained at the fort. They insisted that the administration should ensure that slaughtering occurs only in areas permitted by the high court, and that too behind closed doors. The Hindu outfits also demanded immediate cancellation of the proposal to construct a slaughterhouse at Moshi village near Alandi in Pune on a 4-acre plot of land. ‘Not in line with rationalisation': Interim stay on transfer of one govt school teacher by HC
Raipur: The Chhattisgarh High Court granted an interim stay on the transfer order of a govt primary school teacher. The court directed the authorities to decide on the teacher's representation within seven days. This comes at a time when protests against the state govt's rationalisation policy are ongoing and several teachers have also moved HC against rationalisation orders, There will be a separate hearing for the other petitions. The petition was filed against the transfer order dated 2 June 2025, which moved the petitioner from Government Abhyas Primary School, Mahasamund, to Government Primary School, Fooljhar, in Bagbahara block. The petitioner's counsel argued that the transfer order was not in line with the rationalisation transfer policy and should therefore be set aside. The counsel also stated that the petitioner filed a representation with the competent authority, which was not yet considered. The court was urged to direct the authority to decide the representation within a specific timeframe.
