Orlando Pirates were unable to give captain Innocent Maela a perfect send off when they were held to a 1-1 draw against Magesi FC.
Maela, who will hang up his boots and take up a position within the club structures, was given a rare start in his last match for Pirates. And as he walked off the field after he was replaced by Yanga Madiba in the second half, Pirates fans gave him a standing ovation and sang his name.

The brave crowd that braved the cold weather was treated to some entertaining football and goals. Unlike in their previous three games, Pirates were at their usual best with players like Relebohile Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota delighting the fans with their skill and flair.
Patrick Masanganyi gave the Buccaneers a perfect start to the match by giving them the lead in as early as the seventh minute. After Pirates were awarded a free kick out wide on the left, Mofokeng cleverly laid the ball in the path of Maswanganyi who beat Elvis Chipezeze with a low shot.
Nkota almost doubled Pirates' lead in the 16th minute when he outpaced the defender and unleashed a powerful shot, but this time Chipezeze managed to make a good save to deny him.
Thalente Mbatha was unlucky not to score the second goal for the Buccaneers in the 26th minute after he was found by a perfect pass from Mofokeng. The midfielder took a first time shot and the ball hit the upright.
Edmore Chirambadare was to make Pirates pay for these misses in the 32nd when he found the equaliser for Dikwena tsa Meetse. The Zimbabwean winger was set up by Thabang Sibanyoni and he beat Sipho Chaine with a low left-footed shot.
The score was 1-1 at the break.
The home side started the second half much like the first by taking the game to the visitors. They almost regained their lead in the 53rd minute through Nkota, but his long-range shot went narrowly over the crossbar.
Chipezeze made sure that the visitors took a share of the spoils when he produced a great save to deny Nkota in the 72nd minute.
Following the draw, Pirates finished the season in second place with 61 points after 28 games, while Magesi ended the season in position 12 after collecting 31 points from the same number of games.

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in race for U20 AFCON winner!

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are reportedly in a race to sign U2 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner Neo Rapoo. Rapoo is currently on the books of SuperSport United which has been his home since his development days. The left-back has grown in leaps and bounds since making his PSL debut for Matsatsantsa three seasons ago. At the time, Rapoo was just 16 years old, and he has become one of the top talents in the South African football. Now, iDiski Times reports that Rapoo is wanted by both Chiefs and Pirates ahead of next season, and that the player is keen. From afar, Pirates appear to have a better chance of snatching the 19-year-old right under the nose of Amakhosi. And that's because Rapoo may fancy his chances of a regular game time at Pirates than at Chiefs following the departure of Paseka Mako and Innocent Maela's retirement. At Chiefs, competition for places could be stiff and unfavorable for Rapoo, especially because Mako is heavily linked with them. There is also Bradley Cross and Happy Mashiane in that left-back position although things could change in the near future. 'Sources confirmed Rapoo is open to the idea of a move in the domestic league as he looks towards the next step of his career, despite the long-term desire of plying his trade in Europe.' Rulani: ‘I probably good enough to coach Orlando Pirates'

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates coach Rulani Mokwena is home in Mzansi after leaving Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca. Naturally, the two-time Betway Premiership champion has been linked with Orlando Pirates, who are coachless after Jose Riveiro's departure to Al Ahly. While the Buccaneers are yet to name Riveiro's successor, Mokwena remains heavily linked with the Sea Robbers. Percy Tau sends a message to Chiefs and Sundowns Speaking to Robert Marawa on 947, Mokwena was asked if he had gained relevant experience to return to coaching the Buccaneers. Mokwena said, 'When I coached Orlando Pirates, most of the feeling was that I had potential. There was a strong connotation from a family perspective. But now the connection is not so much from a family perspective. Rulani Mokwena and the Orlando Pirates chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza. And now there's a strong feeling that, as a coach, I'm probably good enough to coach Orlando Pirates, and I'm grateful for that.
