Qatar and UAE top Ookla Speedtest Intelligence data study with 370 Mbps+ 5G roaming speeds
UAE: A study based on Speedtest Intelligence® data by Ookla®, a global leader in connectivity intelligence, has revealed that Gulf nations offer some of the best 5G roaming speeds globally, facilitating an enhanced digital experience for visitors. The study assessed the mobile user experience of inbound roamers visiting Gulf countries, including Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, in 2024 and compared it with their home network experiences.
Karim Yaici, Lead Industry Analyst for the Middle East and Africa at Ookla, said: 'Mobile connectivity is a critical factor shaping one's travel experience by enabling visitors to stay connected with their family and friends, use essential navigation features, locate tourist attractions, access restaurant reviews, and share their experiences on social media. By leveraging 5G technology's capabilities when roaming, users can access high-speed internet, stream HD videos, and perform lag-free video calls.'
Yaici further stated: 'At Ookla, we are committed to analysing, understanding, and improving connected experiences, in line with our vision to create a world with better connectivity. We also uphold the principles of neutrality and independence in all our analyses.'
The research revealed that many travellers visiting Qatar, the UAE, and Kuwait enjoyed top speeds on 5G networks, with median download speeds over 5G reaching 381.05 Mbps in Qatar, 374.60 Mbps in the UAE, and 240.37 Mbps in Kuwait. It also revealed that visitors to the Middle East from Austria, Saudi Arabia, and Hong Kong were most likely to use 5G while roaming. On the other hand, travellers from Pakistan, India, and Egypt were identified as being least likely to use 5G while roaming.
In the UAE, over 37 percent of roaming users anonymously identified by Speedtest were visitors from India, Saudi Arabia, Austria, Russia, and Hong Kong. However, their network experiences varied significantly, with Saudi Arabian and Russian travellers experiencing the fastest download speeds across all technologies and over 5G. Russian tourists experienced more than a threefold increase in median download speeds compared to their home networks. On the other hand, travellers from Austria, India, and Hong Kong experienced comparatively lower performances in the UAE. Saudi visitors to Kuwait experienced a high 5G roaming speed of 240.37 Mbps, but their 'all technologies' speeds were around 40 percent lower than 5G.
As the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) rapidly evolves into a global tourism and business hub, the demand for seamless high-speed connectivity is also increasing. This is further bolstered by the fact that the Travel & Tourism market in GCC is poised to sustain its ongoing expansion in coming years, generating USD 9.57 billion in revenue in 2029, growing from an estimated USD 8.32 billion in 2025 at an annual growth rate of 3.56 percent.
This growth will be driven by the region's ongoing infrastructure investment, world-class amenities, and the availability of simplified visa policies streamlining the tourist entry process. Such a strategic focus on tourism empowers regional mobile operators to leverage 5G roaming as a key revenue driver. In this context, Ookla's analysis empowers mobile service providers and other businesses to optimise their networks and enhance the lives of individuals who rely on these networks daily.

Imdaad and InterWater collaborate on cutting-edge water treatment project in Dubai
Dubai, UAE – Imdaad, a Dubai-based group of companies providing integrated, sustainable Facilities Management (FM) services to enhance the operational efficiencies of physical assets, has signed a new three-year contract with InterWater International LLC (InterWater) for the development of an innovative Reverse Osmosis (RO) water management project. This marks Imdaad's third collaboration with InterWater, a leading provider of mobile water and wastewater treatment solutions in the UAE and GCC since 2006. The signing ceremony, which took place at Imdaad corporate office was attended by Mahmood Rasheed, Chief Operating Officer of Imdaad and Michael Harrison, Managing Director of InterWater, along with representatives from both sides. Under the terms of the agreement, InterWater will construct Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) Polishing Reverse Osmosis facilities across Imdaad's Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) with a capacity of around 3,000 CMD. (3,000,000 liters per day, 1.1 billion liters per year). The treated water will be utilized across various industries, including district cooling plants and the construction sector, and reduce reliance upon potable water sources. Imdaad will supply the required TSE on a regular basis, while also monitoring daily RO water production. For its part, Interwater will supply and operate its Mobile Containerized UF and RO technology, and provide operational manpower to the TSE plants, with dedicated personnel available around the clock. Commenting on the agreement, Mahmood Rasheed, Chief Operating Officer of Imdaad, said: 'This project marks a significant milestone in our two-year partnership with InterWater. Together, we have helped set new standards for water security, sustainability, and environmental stewardship across our industry. We are grateful for the strong foundation of trust we have built with InterWater, and look forward to providing world-class, sustainable services that will positively impact the UAE's environment.' Integrating TSE polishing RO plants into existing water management strategies provides high-quality water for industrial, construction and cooling tower purposes, reducing the need for desalination. Furthermore, by offering an alternative to conventional water sources, TSE polishing RO plants reduce the overall carbon footprint associated with water supply and wastewater management. With the wastewater recycling plants totaling 3,000 m3/day capacity, this project is expected to reduce the net carbon footprint by a total of over 4000 tons of carbon annually, the equivalent of planting as many as 20,000 trees each year. These innovative, green technologies are crucial to the long-term sustainability of the water management industry across the GCC region, and the Dubai vision to achieve a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030. About Imdaad: Imdaad is a Dubai-based group of companies that provides integrated, sustainable facilities management services that enhance operational efficiencies of physical assets. UAE Set for Accelerated Growth on Diversified Economy
Arabian Post Staff -Dubai The World Bank has raised its forecast for the UAE's gross domestic product to 4.6 percent in 2025, marking a notable upward revision of 0.6 percentage points from its January outlook. The renewed projection is driven by strong momentum in non‑oil sectors—tourism, construction, transportation and finance—while the phased easing of OPEC+ production cuts is expected to support oil output growth. Overall GCC growth is also tipped to rise to 3.2 percent in 2025, climbing further to 4.5 percent in 2026 and 4.8 percent in 2027. Globally, however, the World Bank projects a slowdown to 2.3 percent in 2025, the weakest expansion outside recessions since 2008 — due mainly to elevated trade tensions and policy uncertainty. ADVERTISEMENT Within the UAE, the non‑oil sector is poised to expand by roughly 4.9 percent in 2025, outpacing oil‑based growth. This upturn reflects robust activity in tourism, real estate, transport, and financial services. The first nine months of 2024 saw non‑oil GDP rise by 4.5 percent, a stronger contributor than the 1.5 percent growth recorded in oil GDP. Analysts point to the UAE's strategic economic diversification as central to this trajectory. Public investment in infrastructure and tech industries, alongside governance reforms aimed at enhancing the business environment, have significantly boosted competitiveness. Free‑zone facilities and logistics integration—especially in Abu Dhabi—are improving supply chain efficiency, while the nation's Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements are broadening international trade links. OPEC+ adjustments remain influential. The group is implementing a gradual withdrawal from voluntary oil output limits between May 2025 and September 2026, which the World Bank says will bolster oil GDP amid global price pressures. The UAE's oil GDP is thus anticipated to gain ground after a lull, providing a stabilising complement to the diversification agenda. Risks persist, including uncertainty around global trade, fluctuating energy prices, and regulatory slowdowns. The World Bank notes that logistics sectors across the GCC could be affected by broader trade disruptions. Meanwhile, lower oil revenues may limit fiscal flexibility, even as sovereign buffers remain robust. In Abu Dhabi, economic diversification efforts are visibly gaining traction. The non‑oil sector there grew by 6.2 percent in 2024, representing over half of the emirate's GDP at AED 644.3 billion. Large‑scale initiatives—such as new business districts, enhanced transport infrastructure, and collaborative zones linking academia with private industry—are expanding economic capacity. Despite global headwinds, the UAE's fiscal position remains sound. The 2024 fiscal surplus stood at approximately 4.6 percent of GDP, supported by counter‑cyclical spending and healthy sovereign reserves. Inflation has moderated to near 2.3 percent, with the Central Bank maintaining supportive liquidity without compromising price stability. Employment is also expected to benefit. The International Labour Organization projects job growth to remain around 3.3 percent in 2025, with unemployment steady at roughly 2.1 percent. Nonetheless, structural issues—such as high youth unemployment and gender disparities—persist, particularly among younger and female cohorts. Looking ahead, the UAE is on track to sustain growth above 4 percent through 2027, with oil and non‑oil sectors contributing in tandem. Yet, global vulnerabilities underscore the need for continued diversification, fiscal prudence and trade resilience.
