Pascal Struijk: It was a tough session today
The defender played 45 minutes against Manchester United at the weekend in a first run-out for the side since their return to training, and he is now looking forward to more work.
'It was a tough session today,' Pascal started, summing up day one.
'We did some top-up running, so I am a little bit leggy, but I mean, that is what pre-season is for! We work hard so that we are ready to go when the time is right.'
There's some fresh faces in the team and now one of the more experienced players, who has played in the Premier League before, Struijk was asked about his new teammates.
'I'm going to say the group is really nice. Already from last year and then for new guys to join in, I think it's a pretty easy group to come in. Everybody is very welcoming and the guys as well, they are really good guys.
'I just try to treat everyone really the same. But of course, when they come over for the first time, I will try to give them a helping hand, tell them about Leeds and the city as well.'
Finally, the challenge is clear for the team to get ready ahead of a big kick-off against Everton at Elland Road in August.
'I'm really excited to play again in the Premier League. I think for a lot of people, it is a childhood dream to play there. So for me, again, to play will be a big joy.
'I think the best thing we can do is go in there without any fear. You know, you see last year, it is not going to be easy.
'But I mean, with some of the experience that some of the lads have, then we can hopefully bring that onto the team.'

Cherries aiming at positive end to pre-season in US against West Ham
THE Cherries will be hoping for a more encouraging performance as their pre-season Premier League Summer Series campaign comes to an end against West Ham. AFC Bournemouth were comfortably beaten by Manchester United in what was a poor performance on the whole by Andoni Iraola's men. Both teams arrive at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta with one win from their two games – and it was an impressive one at that from the Cherries. The 3-0 victory over Everton in the opening game was in stark contrast to the performance on Wednesday night in Chicago, with Iraola even saying after the United game that they are not as good as the performance against the Toffees, nor are they as bad as the one against the Red Devils. Bournemouth offered very little going forward and were poor defensively against United, but scored a consolation goal after good work from David Brooks saw the Welshman cross for Matthijs De Ligt to turn the ball into his own net. (Image: Richard Crease) Both games have served their purpose, though, in giving plenty of good minutes to the Cherries squad. There were nine total substitutes from Iraola on Wednesday, while the entire XI were replaced against Everton. In terms of team news, Eli Junior Kroupi and Justin Kluivert have an outside chance to return to the Cherries side, with the former seen pictured in training this week. Ryan Christie and Luis Sinisterra continue their recovery from injuries and will not be available. Tyler Adams made his first return to the Bournemouth squad against the Manchester club, coming off the bench for the final 15 minutes, so he'll likely get more minutes in Atlanta. West Ham, meanwhile, were beaten 2-1 by United in their opening game of the pre-season tournament in the States, but they beat Everton by the same scoreline in Chicago. Jarrod Bowen scored their second-half consolation goal in the first game, and it was Lucas Paqueta and Niclas Fullkrug who did the damage either side of halftime for the Hammers. Those goals came after the Toffees had opened the scoring through Idrissa Gueye after 17 minutes. AFC Bournemouth meet West Ham at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Sunday, August 3, kicking off at 7pm, UK time. The two sides meet for the first time in the league this season on November 22 at Dean Court.

Carlisle United end 'hard' pre-season with victory in Chester
CARLISLE United first-team coach Gav Skelton has reflected on a 'hard' pre-season for the Blues. The Blues ended their 2025/26 pre-season campaign with a 2-0 victory against Calum McIntyre's Chester at the Deva Stadium. Elliot Embleton's penalty and an own goal from Chester's Tom Leak sealed the result for the Blues who were supported by over 300 travelling Cumbrians. After the fixture, Carlisle United's first team coach Gav Skelton reflected on the 'positive result'. Speaking to the News & Star, he said: "It's a positive result although it is pre-season. "It breeds confidence and its not just 2-0, I thought we were convincing, I don't think we have been troubled too many times which shows a good resilience right through the team defensively, out from the keeper, the back four, and the whole team. "Ultimately you have got to score goals and we have done that by scoring two goals and have won 2-0 quit comfortably I think." Skelton also piled the praise on Carlisle United forward Regan Linney after his performance against the Seals. A performance which saw him test Chester goalkeeper Lewys Benjamin on several occasions as well as winning the Blues spot kick with some slick footwork and delivering the cross which was deflected by an opposition defender into his own goal. He said: "He is a threat, other teams were looking at him and we are lucky enough to have him. "He has done it in pre-season, now can he go and continue his form from last season at Altrincham into the real stuff for us. "He has been pleasing and promising and he will be going in confident and adapted to the group, so it has been a really promising pre-season, as it has been for a number of them. Carlisle United's attentions will now turn to their first National League when they travel to Woking on Saturday, August 9. However, ahead of stepping up preparation for this first fixture, Skelton reflected on the club's pre-season campaign. He said: "It has been a hard pre-season and I think you would hear that from the players as well. "You get a bit of a reward when you get good results in pre-season and hopefully it builds a bit of confidence and belief, not just amongst he players but throughout the whole club and supporters which we need to take into the season.
