Top performers from Day 1 of OT7 Week 4 action
High-level recruits from all over the country are competing in Texas for the fourth and final week of OT7's regular season -- ahead of the the Golden Ticket Tournament next weekend and the OT7 Championships on June 26-29 in Florida.

The field features several blue-chip recruits in the 2026, 2027, and even 2028 classes so far.
Here are the 10 top performers from Day 1 of the Week 4 action at OT7 from Dallas College's Mountain View campus headlined by Rivals MVP Joey O'Brien.
1. FOUR-STAR ATH JOEY O'BRIEN
Joey O'Brien was a runaway Day 1 MVP at OT7 on Saturday. The four-star ATH came up with an awe-inspiring five interceptions, four of which were returned for touchdowns. At 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, O'Brien is long with range -- and stepped in front of several passes and out-jumped and anticipated several more big plays in coverage throughout the first day of action.
2. FOUR-STAR SLOT WR VANCE SPAFFORD (GEORGIA COMMIT)
Vance Spafford found the end zone on four different occasions and was dynamic with the ball in his hands and consistently gets open in all different parts of the field. The twitchy four-star SLOT receiver committed to Georgia has a vast catch radius and extremely sure hands. He's both quick and fast getting downfield and showed some real toughness making several catches through contact in the end zone.
3. CB MAKHI BOONE
2026 Ohio CB Makhi Boone was superb taking away the football with a pair of interceptions in Saturday's action, including a game-winner along the way. Boone was sticky in overage and was able to move step for step with receivers on the perimeter -- and he plays the ball in the air smooth. He broke up a few more passes in coverage in the end zone
4. FOUR-STAR TE MARK BOWMAN
Four-star tight end Mark Bowman was playing at a different tempo during three games of action. The top-30 prospect from California is very gifted winning 50-50 balls and also maneuvering in the middle of the field. Bowman catches everything thrown in his direction -- and is a crisp route-runner that came up big in several timely situations.
5. FOUR-STAR ATH SALESI MOA
Salesi Moa put on a show during a wild stretch of action in which the four-star ATH from Utah scored two touchdowns and also had a pick-six before halftime of a game on Saturday. Moa scored again later on in action and also was effective in coverage at cornerback -- making big plays consistently on both sides of the ball. He's extremely instinctive with the ball in the air and can get downfield in a flash.
6. FOUR-STAR WR JABARI MACK (LSU COMMIT)
Top-100 WR Jabari Mack was a source of big plays. The four-star LSU verbal from The Boot consistently got open -- and came away with difficult grabs showing off his catch radius and ability to get up and pluck the rock in the air. Mack is an explosive route-runner and dangerous with the ball in his air. He's enjoyed a very productive off-season, including strong showings both weekends at OT7.
7. FIVE-STAR QB RYDER LYONS
Five-star QB Ryder Lyons was dealing for parts of Saturday's action. After being immersed in the 7-on-7 setting for the first time in Week 1, Lyons was ripping the ball downfield and delivering throws with touch and anticipation at a high clip. Rivals' No. 2 passer from the West Coast zipped several throws over defenders and into tight windows -- and was excellent as a decision-maker along the way.
8. FOUR-STAR 2027 SLOT WR MYLES MCAFEE
Myles McAfee was among the most active pass-catchers during Day 1 of OT7's Week 4 slate. The four-star WR from Maryland was a favorite target for Gavin Sidwar. McAfee consistently found holes in the defense and was sure-handed and able to turn and run throughout the day. He brings an electric skill-set to the SLOT and showed as much on Saturday.
9. FOUR-STAR WR KEEYUN CHAPMAN
Four-star WR Keeyun Chapman is a difference-maker working on the outside. The big-framed Alabama pass-catcher was a force picking up first downs. A possession receiver for Landon Duckworth -- his high school teammate at Jackson (Ala.) High -- Chapman was the source of multiple touchdowns. His size presents major mismatches for defenders in coverage and he has plus-ball skills as a dual-sport athlete.
10. FOUR-STAR RB MESSIAH MICKENS (PENN STATE COMMIT)
The longtime Penn State verbal was dynamic out of the backfield as a pass-catcher. At 5-foot-10 and 200-plus-pounders, Messiah Mickens has the build of a Big Ten back that can barrel between the tackles; the four-star running back is also a skilled receiver out of the backfield that came away with several timely grabs to move the chains in Day 1 of action and was gone in a hurry when he saw daylight.

Former LSU football four-star quarterback loses QB battle at Syracuse
Former LSU football quarterback Rickie Collins transferred to Syracuse in December with a chance to win the starting job. During spring practice, Collins was on track to be QB1. But Syracuse dipped back into the portal and signed former Notre Dame QB Steve Angelli. With kickoff less than two weeks away, ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that Steve Angeli was named the starter. "Angeli, a redshirt junior, narrowly beat out LSU transfer Rickie Collins, who played well during camp. Per sources, the quarterbacks were informed of the decision early Monday morning," Thamel wrote. Syrauce is trying to replace quarterback Kyle McCord, who went to the NFL after a stellar single season with the Orange. Angeli and Collins are both Power Four-level transfers, though experience is limited. Collins spent two years at LSU, throwing just seven passes for 38 yards. Collins carried it seven times for 37 yards on the ground. All of Collins's action came when the game was already out of hand. Collins signed with LSU in 2023 as a four-star recruit. Per the Rivals Industry Rankings, Collins was the No. 17-ranked quarterback in the class and No. 13-ranked prospect in Louisiana. Despite losing the QB battle, reports of Collins' strong play in camp could mean good things for his future.

Former LSU football wide receiver released by Atlanta Falcons after two preseason games
Former LSU football wide receiver DJ Chark was released by the Atlanta Falcons on Monday. Chark's Atlanta tenure lasted less than a month after he was signed in late July. Chark appeared in two preseason games with the Falcons prior to his release. He was targeted three times vs. the Titans, catching one pass for 11 yards. Chark was originally drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2018, where he spent the first four years of his career. Following Jacksonville, Chark made stops in Detroit, Carolina, and LA. Chark was a Pro Bowl wide receiver with the Jaguars in 2019, surpassing 1,000 yards and averaging 13.8 yards per catch. In 2024, Chark was with the Chargers, but didn't see much action. He appeared in seven games and caught four passes for 31 yards. Chark has 216 receptions, 3,100 yards, and 24 touchdowns in his seven-year NFL career. Throughout his career, Chark has been known as a speedster who can take the top off a defense. He averaged 16.7 yards per catch with the Lions in 2022. Chark spent four years at LSU and emerged as one of the SEC's best receivers in 2017. Chark caught 40 passes for 874 yards, an average of 21.9 yards per reception. He was critical on special teams, too.

Six potential landing spots for former LSU football coach Ed Orgeron
Former LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron made waves on Monday. Orgeron appeared as a guest on Barstool Sports' Pardon My Take podcast and said he was interested in returning to the sideline. Orgeron has been out of coaching since parting ways with LSU in 2021. But after three seasons away, the national championship-winning coach is mulling a comeback. "I think it's time. I'm feeling it a little bit. Haven't made the decision totally, but I've got my boys settled, coaching football now. It's been four years since I've been out. I'm getting the itch again," Orgeron said. Orgeron took over as LSU's interim head coach in 2016 before earning a promotion. He led the Tigers for five years, going 15-0 and winning a national title in 2019. But after going 5-5 in 2020 and a disappointing start to 2021, LSU and Orgeron decided to part ways. Orgeron has a wealth of experience as a head coach and an assistant. Several programs could use his services. Here are five potential landing spots if Oregeron decides to jump back in for the 2026 season. Ole Miss Ed Ogreron's ties to Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin run deep. The pair first worked together in the early 2000s at USC. Then Orgeron was on Kiffin's staff at Tennessee and returned to Southern Cal when Kiffin became head coach at USC in 2010. When Orgeron was promoted to LSU's head coach, there was talk of Kiffin leaving his OC position at Alabama to call plays at LSU. Kiffin was named FAU's head coach that offseason, but many believe Kiffin to LSU was all but official at one point. The connection is obvious. Orgeron was head coach at Ole Miss from 2005-07. He knows how to recruit the area, and he knows how to work with Kiffin. Few spots make more sense than this one. Miami Orgeron was Miami's defensive line coach from 1988-1992. It's been 30 years since Orgeron worked for the Hurricanes, but he's familiar with the current program thanks to his son Cody Orgeron working as an analyst on Mario Cristobal's staff. Orgeron told Pardon My Take that he moved to Miami after Cody took the job. In recent years, Orgeron has made multiple appearances at Hurricane practices. Cristobal values elite recruiters on his staff. Given Orgeron's relationship with Cristobal and the Miami program, along with his experience recruiting South Florida, Orgeron is a fit in Miami. USC Including USC here is cliché. Would Orgeron head back to Southern Cal for a third stint? Probably not. But stranger things have happened. USC head coach Lincoln Riley tends to swing big when it comes to assistants, and he doesn't mind characters either. Earlier this offseason, Riley hired Rob Ryan to coach linebackers. The USC staff already has a few Louisiana connections, and hiring Orgeron would keep that pipeline alive. Orgeron was a key part of the glory days at USC, and Riley could use some of that expertise on staff. Texas Texas is the first school mentioned on this list that Orgeron has yet to work at. Orgeron and Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian haven't shared a staff before, but the two are familiar. When Sarkisian was hired at USC in 2013, he tried to convince Orgeron to remain on staff after Orgeron was not retained as the interim head coach. In recent years, Oregon has made stops at Longhorn practices and Texas coaching clinics. A job on the Texas staff would allow Orgeron to do what he does best -- recruit blue-chip defensive linemen to one of the top brands in the sport. Could Ed Orgeron land in the NFL? Orgeron has one year of NFL experience, working for Sean Payton on the New Orleans Saints' 2008 staff. But if Orgeron is looking for a return to coaching, the NFL could make more sense. The NFL isn't as demanding as the college game. Orgeron wouldn't have to spend weeks on the road recruiting or deal with the craziness of the transfer portal. He's coached NFL-caliber defensive linemen throughout his career, developing a handful of first-round picks. Orgeron has the skillset required to work with the best football players in the world. If the right NFL opportunity is there, expect Orgeron to give it a look. The Raiders are a viable landing spot with Pete Carroll as head coach. Will Orgeron get any head coaching opportunities? Orgeron won't receive any head coaching interest from Power Four programs, but its possible he gets an opportunity at a lower level. FCS or Group of Five teams within the region could look at Orgeron and see a chance to add a national championship-winning head coach and a relentless recruiter. It could make sense for a school like Louisiana Tech, looking to revitalize its program. In the FCS, programs like Northwestern State and McNeese State would value Orgeron's connections within Louisiana. It's much more likely Orgeron ends up as an assistant coach, but head coaching isn't out of the question.
