IIT Madras-Accenture collaborate to offer skilling programmes for automotive industry

The Centre of Excellence in Advanced Automotive Research (CAAR) of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras) and LearnVantage Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) Academy of Accenture have entered into a collaboration to offer a specialised skilling programme to cater to the industry.
The initiative seeks to develop talent to build SDVs catering to the automotive original equipment manufacturers and global capability centres. The curriculum includes domain specific modules, interactive learning environment, and expert coaching delivered through a mix of self-paced and IIT Madras instructor-led sessions, a press release said.
Kishore Durg, global lead of Accenture LearnVantage, Prof. Krishnan Balasubramanian, Professor in Charge, CAAR, and Mr. Thiruppathy Srinivasan, CEO, CAAR, spoke.

Maharashtra govt revives Hyperloop project for goods transport

Mumbai: The state govt has decided to revive its Hyperloop project. This time, it will be used for transporting goods from JNPT to Vadhavan. On Tuesday, a strategic agreement was signed by the govt with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, which has developed Hyperloop technology. TuTr Hyperloop Pvt Ltd, a deep-tech startup, was incubated at IIT Madras. According to the strategic agreement signed, the company will develop a Linear Induction Motor (LIM) based high-speed mobility system at both JNPT and Vadhavan Port for ease of transportation of goods. Vadhavan Port, a deep-sea draft port (20-metre draft), will be among the top 10 container ports in the world when commissioned. Its construction is estimated to cost Rs 76,000 crore. In 2019, in his first tenure as CM, Devendra Fadnavis approved a Hyperloop project to connect Mumbai and Pune, which would reduce travel time to a mere 30 minutes. The state approved the setting up of an 11.8-km-long test track for the project. FedEx, IIT Madras unveil SMART Centre to build sustainable & AI-driven logistics solutions

Federal Express Corporation, or FedEx has joined hands with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras to inaugurate the FedEx SMART Centre (Supply Chain Modelling, Algorithms, Research and Technology Centre) in the institution's campus. The FedEx Smart Centre at IIT Madras campus will combine cutting-edge research, advanced digital tools, and industry expertise to reimagine supply chains for agility, resilience, and environmental responsibility. The first-of-its-kind facility is aimed at building sustainable, technology-driven logistics solutions. The FedEx SMART Centre is backed by a five-year USD 5 million grant from FedEx, and will combine cutting-edge research, advanced digital tools, and industry expertise to reimagine supply chains for agility, resilience, and environmental responsibility, a press release informed. The inaugural ceremony was attended by Kami Viswanathan, President, Middle East, Indian Subcontinent, and Africa (MEISA), FedEx, along with Nitin Navneet Tatiwala, Vice President, Marketing, Customer Experience, and Air Network, MEISA, FedEx, Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, and Prof. Ashwin Mahalingam, Dean (Alumni and Corporate Relations) at IIT Madras. Speaking at the event, Kami Viswanathan said that the Center is more than just a hub for research - it is a space where technology and talent come together with a shared purpose to shape what's next. Prof. V. Kamakoti, emphasised that the joint efforts taken by IIT Madras and FedEx will not only solve complex problems in logistics and supply chain but also address important human resources related issues and related infrastructure. Prof. Mahalingam, expressed gratitude to FedEx for its support in establishing the FedEx SMART Centre at IIT Madras. He said, 'This collaboration brings together industry expertise and academic innovation to create real-world solutions for sustainable logistics. By fostering cutting-edge research, talent development, and global associations, the Centre is poised to make a transformative impact on the logistics ecosystem.'
