She was loved.
Jill Sobule's death has brought several people together, including those who were close to her in her younger years.

'She spent a semester in Spain and came back and didn't continue college so she could pursue her music career,' she explained of Sobule. 'She wrote a song called 'Wendell Lee.' He is the guy sitting next to her in the picture.'
Greengard Mikulka recalled Sobule being 'the life of the party and easy to be around,' adding the late singer was 'so fun in college.'
'She always wanted to be a musician. I used to go to her gigs at coffee shops in Boulder and listen to her play. Some of her other friends and I used to pretend to be backup singers and dancers. She always loved writing fun songs,' she shared of Sobule's early years before fame.

While her friends made it out of their home safely, they did not notice the singer was unable to free herself from the flames.
Law enforcement has revealed that an investigation is underway to determine if Sobule passed away before the deadly inferno broke out.
'WPD can confirm the victim of the fire yesterday morning was Jill Sobule,' WPD patrol commander Tom Ehrenberg told The Post on Friday. He also said investigators are looking into how the fire started.

'The Ramsey County Medical Examiner did not finalize the cause of death. The fire itself, including the cause, is still under active investigation, which is standing operating procedure.'
Her friends have no idea how the fire started, according to TMZ.
Sobule's body is being tested for drugs, alcohol and carbon monoxide poisoning to determine when and how she passed away, a Ramsey County representative in Minnesota told the outlet.
The singer was behind the iconic 1995 hit 'I Kissed a Girl,' which is widely considered the first openly gay-themed tune to break into the Billboard Top 20.

Sobule also found recognition with her song 'Supermodel,' which was featured in Alicia Silverstone's breakout movie 'Clueless' (1995), the autobiographical Drama Desk-nominated musical 'F–k 7th Grade' about being queer in middle school, and creating the theme song for Nickelodeon's 'Unfabulous.'
Sobule was getting ready to celebrate the 30-year anniversary of 'F—k 7th Grade,' with the original cast recording being released in June alongside the reissue of her self-titled album, featuring 'I Kissed a Girl' and 'Supermodel.'

She was scheduled to perform 'Jill Sobule presents: Songs From F–k 7th Grade & More' on Friday, May 2, in Denver, Colorado. However, following the news of her shocking death, the event was canceled.
Several of Sobule's colleagues have spoken out after her passing.
Her booking agent, Ken Hertz, called her 'family.'
'She showed up for every birth, every birthday, and every holiday. She performed at our daughter's wedding, and I was her 'tech' when she performed by Zoom from our living room (while living with us) during the pandemic,' Hertz told The Post.
Sobule is survived by her brother, James, sister-in-law, Mary, and two nephews. A formal memorial celebrating her life will reportedly happen later this summer.

Secrets Behind ‘Clueless' Amid the Film's 30th Anniversary, Including the Classic Book That Inspired It

The 1995 film Clueless has turned 30 – and everyone is totally buggin' that the coming-of-age comedy has come of age! Writer-director Amy Heckerling's modern-day take on Jane Austen's classic 1815 novel Emma stars Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horowitz, who navigates her way through teenage angst as the popular girl at Bronson Alcot High in Beverly Hills. The film features a who's who of up-and-coming Hollywood hotshots, including Paul Rudd (Josh), Stacey Dash (Dionne), Brittany Murphy (Tai), Jeremy Sisto (Elton), Breckin Meyer (Travis) and Donald Faison (Murray), supported by veteran actors Dan Hedaya (Cher's dad, Mel Horowitz), Wallace Shawn (Mr. Wendell Hall), Twink Caplan (Miss Toby Geist) and Julie Brown (Coach Millie Stoeger). Heckerling recalls reading Emma in college, saying to Entertainment Weekly, 'There's something so basic about it. I knew [the movie] would be set in Beverly Hills because it's a hyper-pastel fantasy place. I hung out at Beverly Hills High School for research. And the one thing I observed was these girls in a constant state of grooming.' Still, she had to fight for the film. 'After a couple of [teen-targeted] movies like PCU and Airheads came out and didn't do so well, Fox got scared,' Heckerling reveals. 'Everybody in town pretty much passed on it.' Luckily, producer Scott Rudin 'got it' and had a deal with Paramount — and Heckerling knew exactly who she wanted to play Cher … Silverstone, who had caught her eye in Aerosmith music videos and didn't even have to audition for the part. 'I loved her from [the videos], and when I met her I had these feelings, like, I just want to watch her,' the director recalls to Vogue. 'I want to take care of her. I think men and women will like her. She's so pretty, she's so sensual, and she's also somebody that you seem to care for.' Silverstone's 'clueless' pronunciation of the word 'Haitians' as 'Hate-ee-ans' in one memorable debate class scene was a happy accident that the director kept in the movie. 'It wasn't written that way in the script,' Heckerling reveals in an interview with Vice, 'but that's how she said it. Everybody started to run toward her to correct her, and I had to kind of block them all, like, 'Step away from the actress!' I didn't want her to act, I just wanted her feel that confidence.' Clueless is filled with now iconic slang. Heckerling says 'hymenally challenged' was her own answer to growing PC terminology of the '90s; 'as if' came from a friend; a crew member suggested the phrase 'going postal'; and 'keeping it real' naturally sprang from actor Donald Faison on set. What about 'whatever'? Confides Heckerling, 'I read in a linguistics study that it was the least favorite word of the year. It just works in so many situations.' While E! News reported Heckerling named the two leads Cher and Dionne 'after famous singers of the past who now do infomercials,' Cher has two last names, by accident! Cher's report card lists her name as 'Hamilton,' but she got a different moniker in a classroom scene. 'I never really had anybody in the script say her last name,' Heckerling explains to Vogue. 'And then the prop guys must have said, 'Give us a last name.' In one scene, Wallace [Shawn] was taking attendance, and he sort of ad-libbed Horowitz. He just ad-libbed a last name. It's not used anyplace else. In my script, she's Cher.' The scene where Dionne freaks out behind the wheel? That was sparked by Heckerling's own fear of driving. 'Any time I wind up in the lane where you can't quickly turn off of it and it's turning into the freeway, I just start screaming until I'm off of it,' she says to Vogue. Another memorable scene has the characters playing 'Suck and Blow,' a game in which a credit card is passed between people using only their lips. The cast found it nearly possible, so a prop card made out of cardboard was created. That didn't work either. Even holes were drilled into the card, but still no dice. Finally, they made it work by having the actors apply a generous slather of ChapStick to their lips. In the end, Clueless turned out to be a surprise hit, raking in a whopping $88 million at the box office. Its budget? A mere $12 million! Solve the daily Crossword

Why Fred Savage thought ‘Wonder Years' guest star Alicia Silverstone once gave him a fake phone number

Alicia Silverstone has a funny story about her time guest-starring on 'The Wonder Years' more than 30 years ago. During a new interview with Entertainment Weekly published Friday, Aug. 15, the 'Clueless' actress explained why the show's star, Fred Savage, thought she gave him a fake phone number after they first met on set in 1992. 'Fred Savage's character asks me on a date and I say, 'Pick me up at seven,' or something,' Silverstone began. 'And that's what makes him decide he needs to get on it and learn how to drive.' 9 Alicia Silverstone at the Plaza Hotel in New York City on February 8, 2024. 'Fred asked me for my number, which was really sweet, because I was 14,' Silverstone continued. 'My home phone number was also a fax machine of my dad's work.' 'So he had tried calling that a few times, and it just went straight to fax,' she laughed. 'So he thought I gave him a fake number or something.' 9 Alicia Silverstone and Fred Savage during Season 5 Episode 11 of 'The Wonder Years.' Meanwhile, Savage was not the only 'The Wonder Years' actor Silverstone hit it off with during her one-episode appearance on the show. She and Josh Saviano, who portrayed Kevin's best friend, Paul Pfeiffer, on all six seasons of the ABC coming-of-age comedy, also became 'very good friends.' 9 Alicia Silverstone in 1995. ©Paramount/Courtesy Everett Collection 9 Fred Savage at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills, California, on January 13, 2010. Elsewhere during her interview with the outlet, the 'Blast From the Past' star discussed Peacock's upcoming 'Clueless' reboot series. Although Silverstone admitted that she 'never thought' about doing a revival of the 1995 classic, she is confident the new show will 'honor' the original movie. 9 Alicia Silverstone on the poster for 'Clueless' in 1995. ©Paramount 9 Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horowitz in 'Clueless.' ©Paramount/Courtesy Everett Collection 'It's very early stages,' she shared. 'I'm obviously excited. I never thought that was something that I would ever do because I wouldn't wanna mess up this thing that we all love so much.' 'We will do our very best to honor the original movie that we love and also bring something new to it,' Silverstone added. 'That's the goal, and I believe we will execute that goal.' 'I can't wait to step back into Cher's skin and her fancy designer shoes that will be gently used, of course, duh, because she's evolved,' Silvertone, who is serving as an executive producer, told Entertainment Weekly. 'This is 2025, she's not wearing the new stuff unless it's sustainable or vegan,' she added. 'We'll have to see how far we can go with that.'

Greg Iles, Mississippi author of 'Natchez Burning' trilogy, dies of cancer at 65

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Greg Iles, the Mississippi author of the 'Natchez Burning' trilogy and other works, has died. He was 65. Iles died Friday after a decades-long battle with the blood cancer multiple myeloma, his literary agent Dan Conaway posted Saturday on Facebook. Initially diagnosed with the incurable condition in 1996, he kept his illness private until completing his final novel, 'Southern Man,' which was published in 2024. Iles was born in Germany but moved to Natchez, Mississippi, with his family when he was just three years old and developed a deep connection with the region. Many of his stories are set in Mississippi, including the 'Natchez Burning' trilogy, historical fiction suspense novels exploring race and class in the 1960s Jim Crow South. Conaway described Iles as 'warm, funny, fearless, and completely sui generis.' 'To be on the other end of the phone as he talked through character and plot, problem-solving on the fly, was to be witness to genius at work, plain and simple,' he wrote on Saturday. 'As a writer he fused story-craft, bone-deep humanity, and a growing sense of moral and political responsibility with the ferocious precisions of a whirling dervish or a master watchmaker.' In March 2011, Iles suffered a ruptured aorta and a partial leg amputation and spent eight days in a medically induced coma after another driver struck his car on Highway 61 near Natchez. He eventually recovered.
