3 dead, over 60 hurt in aerial firing during Independence Day events in Pak
An eight-year-old girl and a senior citizen were among those killed. The girl was hit by a stray bullet in Azizabad and a man named Stephen killed in Korangi, reported news agency ANI, citing Geo News.
A police probe has been launched into the incidents that reportedly occurred across the city, and authorities have condemned them as "reckless and dangerous", urging people to celebrate the day in safer ways.
Cops have reportedly assured strict action against those behind the aerial firing.

All four were heading to their school on one motorcycle. Enraged family members and local residents staged a protest and blocked the road at Panchbatti Chowk. SHO (Airport) Ramkrishna Tada said all four children were on the same bike, were minors, and not wearing any helmets. "In front of Hotel Radisson, their bike skidded and they fell down while overtaking a small truck loaded with stones. Wheels of the truck ran over Lokendra Singh, crushing him to death on the spot while injuring three others, and the driver fled from the spot," Tada said, adding that a distant camera recording has shown the victims going behind the truck. "We have seized the dumper and detained the driver," said Tada, adding that two injured are undergoing treatment at the hospital, while one was discharged after primary treatment. Swinging into action, police swiftly removed the dead body from the spot and arranged to clean the spot in view of the chief minister's convoy, which had to head to the airport. The family members also demanded that Chief Minister Sharma, who was in the city for the state-level Independence Day celebration, come to the spot and talk to them. But given the demonstration, the administrative officials changed the route of the chief minister to the airport, who was to board the flight back to Jaipur. Delhi Police bust cyber-extortion racket, arrests three including LSE graduate
New Delhi [India], August 17 (ANI): In a major bust of cyber-extortion, a joint team of PS DBG Road and PS Cyber, Central District, Delhi Police arrested three men, including a London School of Economics graduate, for allegedly trying to extort money through international WhatsApp calls and cryptocurrency payments, officials said on Saturday. The accused, who allegedly posed as associates of a notorious gangster to instil fear, were traced to Thailand before being apprehended on their return to India, they said. According to police, the case came to light after a complainant approached PS DBG Road, reporting that he had received a threatening WhatsApp call from an international number. The caller identified himself as a well-known gangster, demanded money, and even sent a cryptocurrency QR code for payment. The threat escalated when the complainant was warned that his children would be shot if the demand was not met. Based on the complaint, a case under Section 308(4) BNS was registered at PS DBG Road, and a joint investigation was launched by PS DBG Road and PS Cyber of the Central technical team swung into action using advanced & paid cyber tools, traced the suspected International WhatsApp call & the origin of the QR Code sent to the complainant, for the receipt of extortion money to Thailand. The previous crypto-transaction was analysed using advanced cyber tools in coordination with i4C, MHA, and the suspects were successfully tracked down in Thailand, they said. Meanwhile, surveillance teams in India monitored the suspects' local addresses. As soon as the suspects returned from Thailand, they were immediately apprehended. The accused have been identified as (1) Sumit, resident of West Punjabi Bagh, Delhi; (2) Prince, resident of Roshanara Road, near Pulbangash, Delhi; and (3) Nitish, resident of DLF Capital Green, Moti Nagar, Delhi – a master's graduate from the London School of Economics (LSE), police said. Two mobile phones used for generating crypto QR codes and making international WhatsApp calls were also recovered from their possession. During interrogation, the accused revealed that they were all heavily debt-ridden and sought an 'easy way" out of their financial troubles. Sumit, who works in the jewellery business and was acquainted with the complainant's family, allegedly orchestrated the plan. To create fear, the trio used the name of a well-known gangster. The accused conspired in India, travelled to Thailand to evade detection, purchased an international SIM card, and used it to place WhatsApp calls, police added. (ANI)

Firing between rival gangs rocks Jodhpur
Jodhpur: There was an abrupt surge in incidents of firing in Jodhpur around Independence Day. After an incident on Aug 14 in Paota area, where a bullet shot by an unidentified person hit a female student in her elbow, yet another incident of firing amid gang rivalry near Ummed Stadium on Saturday unleashed panic in the city. The firing took place barely a few meters away from the local police post. CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced, showing members of rival gangs fighting. It is reported that after the physical clash, persons from one gang opened fire on the other. However, nobody was reported hurt in the firing. As soon as information was received, a police team reached the spot and began an investigation. Police officers said they are gathering details by speaking with local residents, while also working to identify the accused with the help of nearby CCTV cameras. SHO (Udai Mandir) Sitaram Khoja said the firing was due to gang rivalry and was aimed at threatening the other gang. "We have registered a case and initiated investigation," Khoja said. The two gangs involved have been identified as the Tantiya gang and the NCR gang. The firing is said to have been carried out by the members of the NCR gang.
