Indian Cab Driver In Ireland Attacked With Bottle, Told To "Go Back To Your Own Country"
Speaking to Dublin Live, Mr Singh recounted that he had picked up two young men believed to be around 20 or 21 years old, from the northside area and dropped them at Poppintree. Upon arriving at their destination, the two men allegedly opened the vehicle's door and attacked him, striking him twice in the head with a bottle. As the attackers fled, they reportedly shouted, "Go back to your own country."
Mr Singh was taken to Beaumont Hospital for treatment following the assault. While he didn't suffer any serious injuries, he feels it will be "very difficult" to go back to work as a cab driver. "I'm really scared now, and I'm off the road at the moment. It will be very hard to go back. My children are really scared," Mr Singh told Dublin Live.
Irish police spokesperson confirmed that they were investigating the attack. "Gardai are investigating an assault reported to have occurred in Poppintree, Ballymun, Dublin 11 at approximately 11:45 pm on Friday, 1st August 2025. A man, aged in his 40s, was brought to Beaumont Hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury. Investigations are ongoing," cops said.
Notably, the assault comes just days after a 40-year-old Indian man was beaten and stripped by a teenage gang in Tallaght. The Indian man was left "severely traumatised" after the assault. In another incident, a 32-year-old Indian data scientist suffered a fractured cheekbone after he was beaten by six teenagers near his apartment.
The recent attacks against Indian citizens have prompted the Indian embassy in Dublin to issue a safety advisory for Indian citizens in Ireland. "There has been an increase in the instances of physical attacks reported against Indian citizens in Ireland recently. The embassy is in touch with the authorities concerned in Ireland in this regard," the advisory said.
"At the same time, all Indian citizens in Ireland are advised to take reasonable precautions for their personal security and avoid deserted areas, especially in odd hours," the statement added. He embassy also provided an emergency contact number (a+353 8994 23734) and an email address (cons.dublin@mea.gov.in) for those seeking assistance.

‘Lured me with job promise, assaulted me for 2 days': Nepalese woman in search of work raped by bus driver in Patna; accused stole cash
A 27-year-old Nepalese woman reported being raped in Patna after arriving from Siliguri in search of employment. She alleges that a bus driver, identified as Kartikeya, gained her trust and then sexually assaulted her for two days, taking her near BSAP-1 building and Gandhi Maidan area. PATNA: An incident rape of a 27-year-old Nepalese woman in the state capital came to light after she filed a written complaint at the Airport police station on Wednesday. She alleged that she reached Patna in search of a job from Siliguri (West Bengal) by a train two days back and was lured by a private bus driver who raped her for two days. In her complaint, the woman alleged, "I reached Patna Junction from Siliguri by a train on Aug 3. After leaving the station, I was sitting outside when a driver approached me and gained my trust. I told him that I came to India in search of a job. The driver said he would help me find one. After that, he took me on a bus to his place and raped me for two days." According to the woman, the accused's name is Kartikeya. He took her by bus near BSAP-1 (Bihar Special Armed Police) building and also near Gandhi Maidan area. She alleged that the accused also snatched Rs 13,000 (Indian currency) and Rs 2,000 (Nepali notes) from her. The first person to learn about the incident was a member of Gorkha Samaj Sewa Service Samiti. Woman left Nepal in search of work He said that around 3pm on Tuesday, he received a call from a person near Gandhi Maidan informing him that a Nepali woman was crying. He arrived at the place with his wife and took the woman to his home. During questioning, the girl shared her story, after which a complaint was filed at the Airport police station on Wednesday. According to police sources, the Nepali woman, under pressure from her stepmother and two stepbrothers to earn money, left her country in search of work. The accused is suspected to be the driver of a private bus hired to transport BSAP personnel to Gandhi Maidan for Independence Day parade rehearsal. Sachivalaya SDPO-1 Anu Kumari said, "The traumatised Nepalese woman is currently not in a condition to provide details about the incident. Her medical examination has been conducted and the report is awaited. Further investigation is going on." The SDPO-1 further added that a Nepali organisation has been informed about the incident. After the legal process is completed, the girl will be sent back to Nepal. Until then, the organisation will take her care. A 40-year-old Punjabi man, who recently returned from Russia, has shared a chilling account of his eight-month-long ordeal as an 'unwitting' recruit in the Russian army, where he claims he was forced into active combat near the Ukraine border with mere 15 days of training. Sarabjit Singh, a resident of Amritsar, was in New Delhi on Tuesday to meet officials of the ministry of external affairs and Rajya Sabha member Balbir Singh Seechewal, who had taken up his case with the central government to secure his return. Sarabjit Singh, who went to Russia in April 2024, said he was sent straight to the war zone at the Ukraine border after just two weeks of military training. 'I along with a group of 18 people went to Moscow for courier work. Upon arrival at the airport, we were detained and taken to a building where we underwent documentation and medical checkups. After this, we were given just 15 days of military training before being sent to the conflict zone,' he said. 'Donning a military outfit, we were transported in vehicles into Ukraine territory where they were made to walk for several kilometres carrying sophisticated military weapons. Advancing into Ukrainian territory, all we could see around were corpses—many of them Indians in Russian army uniform alongside youths from various other countries,' he claimed. Sarabjit said he had never been so close to death in his entire life. 'There were days when we had no availability of drinking water and food. At one point, I became so mentally broken that I even tried to pull the pin of a hand grenade to end my life,' he said, adding that his parents started believing that he would never return. Meanwhile, Sarabjit is planning to visit Moscow again to help the Indian embassy in tracing 14 other missing Indians in military camps there. MP Balbir Singh Seechewal said that it was revealed through a written question submitted to the central government that out of 13 Indians in the Russian army, 12 were still missing. 'The ministry is working on tracing the missing youths and to ensure their safe return to India,' Seechewal said.
