Nets' D'Angelo Russell receives big turnout during visit to Beijing
Each one of these fans paid the equivalent of $300 to ask D'Lo about his career, take pictures with him and get autographs. Part of a multi-city tour. Did we have someone there? Well DUH! — NetsDaily (@NetsDaily) May 20, 2025
Brooklyn Nets guard D'Angelo Russell had an interesting 2024-25 NBA season as he began the campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers, but ended it with the Nets. Russell came to Brooklyn in a midseason trade that gave the Nets the point guard they needed at the time and while he's a free-agent this summer, he's looking to share some of his free time with his fans.
Russell is currently in Kunming, Beijing as part of the promotion of his first signature sneaker, the "Dlo 1" series, and it seems that his fanbase extends beyond the borders of the United States, according to a couple of posts on X from NetsDaily. NetsDaily also notes that each fan had to pay the equivalent of $300 to be at the particular event to ask him questions and take pictures with him.
"Every signature shoe tells a story. For NBA star D'Angelo Russell, that story is one of evolution—marked by moments of breakthrough, quiet resilience, and iconic celebrations," per the blog post pertaining to Russell's shoe release on wayofwade.com. Russell's shoe is under the Way of Wade brand owned by current co-owner of the Utah Jazz and former NBA Hall-of-Famer Dwyane Wade.
Russell, 29, is coming off a 2024-25 season in which he averaged 12.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game while shooting 39.0% from the field and 31.4% from three-point land. During his 29 games with the Nets, Russell put forth 12.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per contest on 36.7/29.7/82.6 shooting splits at the end of his 10th season in the league.
Russell will be a unrestricted free-agent this summer after completing the second year of the two-year, $36 million contract that he signed with the Lakers two years ago. It's unknown where Russell will be playing next season, but it seems like things are looking up for him off the court as he has finally has his own signature shoe and fans who are celebrating the monumental occasion with him.

Celtics-Mavericks Trade Report Surfaces After Cooper Flagg News

Celtics-Mavericks Trade Report Surfaces After Cooper Flagg News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Boston Celtics recently made headlines when it was reported by Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo Sports that Duke star Cooper Flagg had a pre-draft interview with them. Widely projected to go No. 1 overall to the Dallas Mavericks, Flagg is not expected to be available when Boston picks at No. 28 in the 2025 NBA Draft. Advertisement Because of this, fans began speculating the Celtics could be eyeing a potential blockbuster trade with Dallas for the No. 1 overall pick. Shutting down this speculation last month, Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens confirmed the team met with Flagg, but said trading up for him is not possible (via Zack Cox of Boston Herald). NBA Draft prospect Cooper FlaggDavid Banks-Imagn Images Just weeks after this news that Boston did indeed meet with Flagg, but will not be swinging a deal for him, a new Celtics-Mavericks trade report has surfaced. According to Jay King of The Athletic, Boston and Dallas could very well be trade partners this summer, just not for Flagg. "The Mavericks could make sense as a trade partner for Boston (more on that soon), but not for the top pick," King wrote on Thursday. Advertisement As far as the type of deal these two teams could make, King highlighted All-Defensive guard Jrue Holiday. "With Flagg set to join Anthony Davis in a deep frontcourt, the Mavericks have a chance to field a special defense," he wrote. "Adding Holiday would only turn that group into more of a problem for opponents. Good luck scoring on him with Davis and Flagg behind him." King added, "Making the trade partner an even more logical fit, the Mavericks have a surplus in the frontcourt with Daniel Gafford, Dereck Lively and P.J. Washington competing for minutes, plus some young players such as Max Christie who could appeal to Boston." Mavericks Closing In on Cooper Flagg for No 1 Draft Pick

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. With the 2024-25 NBA season coming to a close, soon all eyes will be on the offseason. This offseason is expected to be one for the books, and the first big event on the calendar will be the 2025 NBA Draft. The draft, which will take place in late June, is one worth watching, and it will feature one of the best prospects of the last decade, Duke superstar phenom Cooper Flagg. Flagg is on track to be the top selection in this year's draft, and all indications suggest the Mavericks will use their No. 1 pick on him later this month. Sources tell ESPN that the Mavericks will host Flagg for a workout in mid-June. Photo byESPN's Shams Charania and Jonathan Givony shared how the Mavericks will work out Flagg, and they have no intention of working out any other prospects. "The Mavericks have no plans to work out any other prospects for the No. 1 pick and have made clear publicly and privately that they plan on selecting Flagg when Adam Silver puts them on the clock to open the 2025 NBA Draft." Dallas made it clear from the jump that they had no plans to move the No. 1 pick after landing it in the draft lottery. That stance hasn't changed — and the fact that they're reportedly not entertaining any other prospect speaks volumes about how highly they view Flagg. Flagg is fresh off a legendary freshman campaign at Duke — one that's already being talked about as one of the greatest ever by a college player. His accolades tell the story: AP Player of the Year, consensus First-Team All-American, Lute Olson Award winner, Julius Erving Award winner, Wayman Tisdale Award winner, ACC Player of the Year, First-Team All-ACC, ACC Rookie of the Year, ACC All-Defensive Team, and ACC All-Freshman Team. The Mavericks have had a roller coaster of a season. They start the season a bit shaky, and then they make what most call a boneheaded move by trading their superstar, Luka Doncic, to the Lakers. After that, they endure a stretch of injuries unlike any other, and they end the season with the No. 1 pick. Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison has endured a ton of criticism, and he deserves it; however, that could all change in the coming months with how he builds this team for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
