Avalanche D Josh Manson signs two-year extension

Reuters10-07-2025
July 10 - The Colorado Avalanche signed defenseman Josh Manson to a two-year contract extension through 2027-28 on Thursday. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Manson, 33, has spent three-plus seasons with the Avalanche after beginning his NHL career with the Anaheim Ducks, though he was limited to 48 games in 2024-25 due to injury.
He tallied 15 points (one goal, 14 assists) in that time and has amassed 57 points (13 goals, 44 assists) and 443 hits in 173 games for Colorado. Manson was a trade deadline acquisition for the Avs in 2022, and he helped the team win the Stanley Cup a few months later (three goals, five assists in 20 playoff games).
"Josh has been an important member of our blue line since joining the team during the 2022 stretch run," Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland said in a statement. "He is a steady and tough defender who chips in on the offensive side at key times. He is also a veteran leader in our dressing room, and we are excited to have him under contract for another three seasons."
Across 11 seasons with Anaheim (2014-22) and Colorado, Manson has tallied 39 goals, 131 assists and 1,526 hits in 626 games.

PGA Tour star Robert MacIntyre shushes heckler in fiery on-course moment after draining huge putt

The Ryder Cup is over a month away. But the inevitable collision course set to take place at Bethpage Black at the end of September already has golfers for Team USA and Team Europe in the mood for the rivalry. In the third round of the BMW Championship on Saturday, American Scottie Scheffler and Scotsman Robert MacIntyre were paired together - drumming up some chants about the two eventually meeting on Long Island. At the 14th hole at Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland, MacIntyre was getting some stick from the American crowd trying to rally around Scheffler. Scheffler buried his par putt - leading to some pro-USA chanting. But there was also a heckler in the crowd trying to get into MacIntyre's head. 'He was just shouting I missed it, he's pushed it,' MacIntyre said. 'Pushed it right in the middle of the hole, I guess.' Despite being further away, MacIntyre buried his putt. Immediately after it fell in the cup, he snapped his head around, stared at the heckler, put his finger to his lips to silence him and then pointed his putter at the fan as he walked away. Things are getting fun @BMWchamps 😏 📺 NBC — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) August 16, 2025 MacIntyre finished the day with the 54-hole lead - four shots ahead of Scheffler ahead of the final round. But that moment on the 14th was the biggest moment of the day for him - with the jeer interfering with his stroke. 'If you give me crap, I'll give you crap back,' he said. '... if they do it outside the shot, it's fair game, but don't do it within the shot that's going to affect myself or Scottie.' As for his playing partner's point of view, Scheffler said that he wasn't aware of what was being said. 'People have a tendency to say things that are dumb. I can think of a few things that were said to me in the final round in Ireland [during The Open at Royal Portrush] that were very far over the line,' Scheffler said. 'If you're a fan, it's only going to fire the guy up more, and I think just do your best to behave out there. It can be a little bit silly sometimes.' MacIntyre is hoping to seal his first win of the season on Sunday and take home a massive chunk of the $20million purse at the second phase of the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Astros' Yordan Alvarez to begin rehab assignment Tuesday

August 17 - Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez will begin a rehab assignment for Double-A Corpus Christi on Tuesday, manager Joe Espada said on Sunday. Per Espada, Alvarez will play "a few games" and serve as the Hooks' designated hitter Tuesday as he works his way back from a fractured right hand that has sidelined him for approximately 3 1/2 months. The three-time All-Star returned to Houston on Sunday after completing rehab work at the club's spring training facility in West Palm Beach, Fla. Alvarez, 28, is batting just .210 with three homers and 18 RBIs in 29 games this season. He last played in a game with the Astros on May 2. He topped 30 homers in each of the previous four campaigns and owns a career slugging percentage of .573. --Field Level Media

WNBA superstar Sophie Cunningham screams in pain and is carried off the court after suffering potentially serious injury

WNBA star Sophie Cunningham was taken to the locker room with a leg injury after wincing in pain on the court during Sunday's Indiana Fever game against the Connecticut Sun. Cunningham, who has been integral to the Fever this season, especially in Caitlin Clark 's absence, was standing under the basket and playing defense when a collision with Sun guard Bria Hartley occurred. Hartley attempted a pass around Fever teammate Kelsey Mitchell, and collided with the lower leg of Cunningham, who stayed on the court in pain until team personnel helped her to her feet. As soon as Hartley made contact with Cunningham's lower right leg, the Fever standout immediately grabs it and falls to the court. When cameras focused back on Cunningham during a stoppage in play, she was visibly yelling in pain. The possible serious injury comes at a time when Cunningham's popularity has never been higher, after joining a roster and becoming close with Clark.
