Lidl Ireland unveils Oasis-inspired jacket ahead of band's Croke Park reunion shows
The 'Lidl by Lidl' jacket — a play on the band's 2002 hit Little By Little — goes on sale at 10am on Wednesday, with all proceeds going to charity.
The garment was inspired by singer Liam Gallagher's collaboration with fashion brand Berghaus last year, which saw him sporting a £400 jacket in the same colours as the Lidl logo.
The discount retailer says its own €35 (£30) jacket is ideal for gigs as it features two built-in drink cooling pockets and a zipper that doubles as a bottle opener.
"This isn't just a jacket… it's a backstage pass to the ultimate party," quipped the retailer. 'Ultimate throwback jacket'
Oasis — featuring second-generation Irish brothers Noel and Liam — got their reunion tour underway this weekend with shows in Cardiff on Friday and Saturday.
Next Friday sees them begin a run of five shows in their home city of Manchester, followed by five shows at Wembley and three in Edinburgh.
They then head to Dublin for two shows at Croke Park on August 16 and 17.
Eimear O'Sullivan, Corporate Affairs Director at Lidl Ireland & Northern Ireland, hailed the jacket as another of Lidl's 'middle aisle gems'.
"The Croke Park gigs are the most hotly-anticipated gigs of the summer and now Oasis fans can relive '90s nostalgia and commemorate a piece of Irish rock and roll history with the limited-edition Lidl by Lidl jacket," she said.

Lidl says that the jacket — which sports a Lidl by Lidl badge on the sleeve — also comes with a tambourine 'for spontaneous jam sessions'.
Meanwhile, Lidl GB is offering fans who miss out on the limited edition garment a branded bucket hat and pair of Lidl aviators, which will be available on the website for free.
The jackets go on sale this Wednesday, with Lidl Ireland donating 100 per cent of sales to its charity partner, Family Carers Ireland, while Lidl GB will donate all proceeds to the NSPCC.

American-born singer Galia Arad reveals how Shane MacGowan changed her life
American singer never gave up trying to get MacGowan involved in her recording Chasing her dream of having MacGowan write the liner notes for her second album at the start of her career in 2009, Galia, who now lives in Ireland, reveals that she phoned his manager every day from New York. After several months, it ultimately led to the Fairytale Of New York singer offering to produce her album in Dublin. But on the day of the recording, Galia feared that Shane was going to be a no-show and her dreams were going to be crushed — after he turned up 10 hours late for the recording. Galia with Shane Although she has no family connections in Ireland, Galia had dated an Irish guy when she was 20 and wrote an entire album about their relationship called Ooh La Baby. Connection 'Since the album was about an Irish person, I was thinking about who would be best to write the liner notes,' Galia tells the Sunday World as she releases a new single, This Close. 'Back then I shot for the stars and thought Shane MacGowan would be perfect… and I just didn't stop until I got him. My older sister had a Pogues album and they were a big influence on my music. 'At the time I had a day job in New York working as a PA in a financial company. Through a lucky connection I got a number for Shane MacGowan's manager Joey Cashman. Galia worked with Shane in the studio 'I called Joey on the company phone and he was abrupt with me, but he told me to call back the next day. I called the next day and he was like, 'oh f**k off, call me tomorrow.' 'Every time I would call I would say, 'Hi, this is Galia calling, the liner notes girl.' It was so ridiculous and so embarrassing. My sister, to this day, calls me Galia The Liner Notes Girl,' she laughs. 'But because Joey gave me the impression there was a chance, I would force myself to call him every day. 'And then one day I got a phone call from my boss saying, 'For some reason there's a call to Ireland every day lasting one minute long.' But he was OK about it. 'And then, finally, Joey said, 'send over your stuff, I'll give it to Shane, we'll have a listen to it.' 'Some months later I was sitting in my shoe box apartment in New York when I got the phone call I'll never forget. It was Joey — the first time he had ever called me. 'He said, 'So we listened to the demo and Shane doesn't think it's sh*te. He would like to possibly produce a couple of the songs if you are coming to Ireland.' Galia asked Shane to write liner notes 'It so happened that at that time I had booked a tour to Ireland with my friend, blues musician Kirsten Thien, to play a few gigs in Dublin.' In the meantime, Galia received Shane MacGowan's hand written liner notes for her album. 'I've never felt so out of control of something that I've wanted more than these f**king liner notes,' she laughs. 'It was very stressful for me because I wanted them so bad. 'But I had got the liner notes in seven different pages, written in capital letters, and they were crazy but perfect. It was just one of the happiest moments of my life. 'Before the recording, which Joey set up, he organised for me and Kirsten to support Republic Of Loose at the UCD Fresher's Ball. Nervous 'Joe said, 'I'm going to bring Shane to see you.' 'They arrived in after we started performing, Joey in his motorcycle gear waving frantically at the front, and then I spotted Shane slipping in at the side. 'That night I drank way too much and got very sick, probably the sickest I've ever been. That is the price you pay for having the craic with Shane MacGowan.' When it came to the day of the recording, Galia feared the worst when there was no sign of MacGowan. Galia has been doing gigs with Jools Holland 'Shane didn't turn up and as the hours slipped away it looked like it wasn't going to happen. Everything felt so precarious,' she says. 'I was so nervous it wasn't going to happen. 'But he came 10 hours late, and then in the studio I couldn't understand what he was saying when he was giving me direction and that was also quite stressful. Galia asked Shane to write liner notes, right, for her album, and he also worked with her in the studio Today's News in 90 Seconds - July 7th 'But he was very kind and I didn't feel uncomfortable.' MacGowan ended up singing on a couple of the tracks, including one called Four Leaf Lover Boy, as well as producing them. Galia now tours with Jools Holland and she reveals that is another gift from MacGowan. 'Shane got the gig to support Jools and included me, and then he had to pull out of that tour,' she reveals. Gigs 'They said 'we'll still have Galia.' And since then I've been doing Jools Holland gigs and it's all thanks to Shane. And he's the reason, along with Joey, that I've made Dublin my home.'

Dallas star Patrick Duffy travels around Ireland in new doc tracing his roots
Patrick (76), who famously played Bobby Ewing in 'Dallas' and starred in 'The Man from Atlantis', has just finished filming a documentary in Ireland with his actress partner Linda Purl Patrick with Larry Hagman as JR Ewing and Linda Gray as Sue Ellen in Dallas President Michael D. Patrick (76), who famously played Bobby Ewing in 'Dallas' and starred in 'The Man from Atlantis', has just finished filming a documentary in Ireland with his actress partner Linda Purl. 'We came here to trace our roots, and a pub was the easiest way, because that's generally where the conversation starts,' Patrick tells the Sunday World. 'It's where you are best known in your community and everybody talks about your parents and your grandparents and pub culture.' The actor grew up in Montana where his parents, Patrick Mor Terence and Marie Duffy (nee Dawson), owned a pub in Boulder. The couple were tragically murdered there in 1988 during an armed robbery, with their two killers getting parole in 2007 and 2015. Patrick's paternal grandfather was from Kilmovee in Co Mayo. 'We are really tracing the pub culture through Ireland, and we will end up in Kilmovee in Mayo,' he explains. 'I have roots primarily in Mayo. 'I first came here in the mid-80s. We went to the Aran Islands and around the rest of Ireland a bit, we were looking at locations for a film. This is my sixth trip to Ireland.' The actor, who became a household name in the '70s and '80s, confirms he is looking into getting an Irish passport. 'I am entitled to it, my grandfather emigrated,' he points out. 'It's worth looking into, especially now with the political climate the way it is, it's worth looking into absolutely.' The couple spoke to us while filming a segment of the documentary at O'Loughlin's pub in Dun Laoghaire, where Patrick pulled and downed pints of Guinness. Linda (69) is best known for playing Ashley Pfister, Fonzie's girlfriend, on the '70s sitcom 'Happy Days' and also starred as Pam Beesly's mother, Helene, in the American version of 'The Office' and as Ben Matlock's daughter Charlene Matlock in the first series on 'Matlock'. 'We were up in Galway, we were up in Lettermullen in Connemara, and we are so lucky to be working with Brian Redden who is now part of the family. Brian is one of the best producer-directors, which is absolutely wonderful. 'My folks are Scots Irish and so they would have come over in the early 17th century and settled up in Ulster, that's where my kin is. This trip is about finding Duffy roots, and so we are having this lovely adventure on the way to Mayo 'We were here three years ago, and ages ago I shot a miniseries here, The Manions of America, for American television, Pierce Brosnan was also in it.' The couple live in Encino in Los Angeles and have been together since 2020. Linda has been married and divorced four times and has one child. Patrick has been married once, his wife Carlyn, whom he married in 1974, died in 2017 and they had two sons. The actor says one of them is carrying on the family tradition. 'My son Padraic, he's the eldest, he works in a bar, it's called Broadwater Plunge in Hollywood,' he adds. When shown a picture of his Dallas co-stars Larry Hagman (JR) and Linda Grey (Sue Ellen) during a trip to Ireland, he speaks fondly about them. 'I know they came here a lot,' he smiles. When asked if they'd like a holiday home here, Linda laughs: 'One step at a time!' Patrick adds: 'We travel a lot, and our holidays are spent thankfully at home.' He reflects about his favourite moments on recent journey here. 'Just meeting the people, and especially the pub culture,' he says, with Linda adding 'and the music'. Producer/director Brian reveals the one-hour documentary has been commissioned by RTÉ and will be shown around Christmas. 'We were trying to go to as many Duffy's pubs as possible as his folks had a Duffy's pub in Montana,' he tells us. 'So we visited a few of them — there's one in Malahide, there's one in Killimor in Galway. There's one in Donegal, Annagary. 'We went to the Hi B in Cork, O'Loughlin's in Dun Laoghaire, went to Jim Of The Mills in Tipperary. 'We were out in the Aran Island, Joe Watty's on Inishmor on the Aran Islands as well. We went to Moate, TR Dallas's pub in Moate, and TR Dallas got to sing his hit Who Shot JR. TR was delighted to meet him and sing the song. 'We got to meet lots of distant cousins and relatives in Kilmovee on Wednesday, which was the last pub we did, Duffy's Four Ways, and where Patrick's grandfather was from. We spent about two weeks doing it.' Brian explains that the idea for the documentary came from the couple. 'Patrick and Linda were back here a couple of years ago searching for the family roots, they had gone down to Mayo, Kilmovee,' he says. 'When they were over here the idea hatched to come back and document the trip and document Ireland, what Ireland means to him. I came on board later on. 'He has a history of pubs in his family. His son runs a pub in Hollywood, and his grandfather had one and his dad had one, and he grew up in a pub in Montana, so we thought that was an interesting prism to look at the changing face of Ireland. 'It's an hour long special, we are just calling it Duffy's Pub, because we are kind of using it as a home for Ireland.' He says the reaction to the couple has been 'incredible' wherever they've gone. 'There's flags and buntings everywhere, tea and scones and brown bread and black pudding. 'I've eaten more scones on this trip that I never want to see a scone again,' he says. President Michael D.
