Despite their different price points, the Aurora Luxe and CopperFlex have similar designs. The CopperFlex Pro is not only one of the best hybrid mattresses we've tested this year, but also one of the most affordable, with its quality of build and materials feeling, and looking, much more luxury than its cost suggests.
Although the CopperFlex pro comes in memory foam and hybrid builds, it is the hybrid version we are focussing on here. Unlike the Aurora Luxe, this mattress comes in one firmness level, rated 7 out of 10.
The 14" CopperFlex Pro Hybrid has a quilted, honey combe stitch surface complete with a GlacioTex cooling cover. Beneath that there's copper-infused memory foam, VariFlex foam, a layer of 760 individually-wrapped coils and high-density support foam. Together, these materials form a robust, cool and cushioning yet supportive mattress.
Similarly, at the top of the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe you'll find two layers dedicated to cooling — a smooth-weave GlacioTex cover and CopperFlex foam (we'll get into how these help temperature regulation below). In our Aurora Luxe mattress review, our main tester slept on the medium firm Aurora Luxe without the pillow top, but we've also tested the pillow-top version in the Brooklyn Bedding showroom.
Our lead tester commented that "The medium premium memory foam here is very effective at preventing you from sinking out of alignment, while still providing enough cozy comfort and minimizing pressure points." For this reason, we rate the Aurora Luxe as one of the best mattresses for back pain.
Assessing the pillow-top version, our tester said that "Because the extra padding is springy rather than squishy and slow-moving, the bed is still nice and easy to move about on."
In comparison to the CopperFlex, a medium Aurora Luxe with the pillow-top upgrade will feel most similar. If you're a heavy body who prefers a firmer bed, we suggest opting for the firm Aurora Luxe. Meanwhile, light-weight side sleepers will enjoy the extra cushioning provided by the soft pillow-top model.
On the other hand, our average-weight lead CopperFlex tester found the mattress comfortable and supportive in all three sleep positions and reported no trouble switching between them during the night.
"Although I felt myself sinking into the mattress surface slightly I never felt like I had to fight out of the foam to switch position," our tester said during the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex mattress review. "Instead it is responsive while offering a gentle hugging feel."

The Aurora Luxe, however, falls short when it comes to motion isolation. When laying next to each other on the bed, our testers could feel one and other tossing and turning. So, the CopperFlex Pro Hybrid would be the better choice for restless couples.
As two of the most reliable cooling mattresses packed with specialist temperature regulating technology, hot sleepers will find relief with both these mattresses. But how exactly do these cooling materials work and which is, honestly, better at keeping you cool through the night?
Firstly, the GlacioTex covers that encase both these mattresses are lined with high thermal conductivity fibers that pull heat away from your sleeping body and dispel it through the mattress surface, keeping the bed cool-to-touch.
Next, the copper foams are infused with metal filaments with high thermal conductivity, helping to remove heat from the mattress rather than trapping it. Copper also gets kudos for sleep hygiene as it's antimicrobial, meaning it provides a barrier against bacteria building up in your bed.

If you're looking for a true medium bed, look elsewhere, because this mattress is seriously plush. The good news is that both my husband and I, who have very different sleep styles, both found it largely supportive for our needs. My husband and I got some of the best sleep we've gotten in a long time on this mattress, even through the heat wave I mentioned earlier. While I was initially worried about neck or back pain from sleeping on such a soft bed, we felt supported and that our spines stayed in neutral alignment. However, my husband, who is a 6'1', felt like his hips were slightly sinking into the bed while sleeping on his back. I also noticed the same while stomach sleeping. The mattress arrived vacuum compressed and sealed in plastic that was easy to remove. Within seconds of cutting into the plastic wrapping, the mattress began to inflate. I placed a 50-pound kettlebell in the middle of the mattress to simulate the feel of a person's body sinking into the bed. It sank three inches, which is fairly reasonable given the softer build. Glacier Apex Hybrid is highly cradling, so you can expect some general sinkage. Overall, I felt the Glacier Apex Hybrid offered excellent pressure relief for side sleeping. Its softer and contoured build cradled the shoulders, which tend to be some of the most sensitive joints (this is why very firm beds generally don't work for side sleepers). However, there was slight hip sinkage while back and stomach sleeping, which is why I docked a point from the score. This is likely due to the soft firmness and plush Euro top. Although my husband and I could have used more hip support while back and stomach sleeping, neither of us ended up with any hip pain during the testing period. My husband also said his back pain disappeared while sleeping on this bed. The Saatva Classic is another excellent choice for pressure relief. This luxury hybrid has zoned technology where the center-third of the bed is firmer to help elevate the low back and hips into neutral alignment. The Glacier Apex Hybrid has comparable pressure relief to the Nectar Classic and DreamCloud Premier Hybrid, but isn't as pressure-relieving as the Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze, which I found best supports all three primary sleep positions. Score: 4 out of 5 I used a 10-pound kettlebell and an empty wine glass to simulate motion transfer. I dropped the weight at various distances from the glass to recreate the feel of someone changing a sleep position next to you. When dropped at a distance of four inches, the wine glass immediately fell over. At 10 inches, the wine glass wobbled but didn't fall (meaning you'd probably feel movement sleeping a foot or so away from a bed partner). At 25 inches, the wine glass also moved slightly but didn't fall over. If you have a restless bed partner, significant motion transfer will likely be noticeable. While hybrid mattresses generally don't absorb movement as well as memory foam mattresses due to their bouncy nature, I was surprised to see the degree of motion transfer on the Glacier Apex Hybrid with its multiple memory foam layers. Even my husband gently changing sleeping positions from his back to his side was enough to wake me from sleep. If you're a bedsharing couple where both partners are sound sleepers, this may not bother you. However, if you're a light sleeper like me or have a fidgety partner, you may want to opt for a slow-moving memory foam bed like the Nectar Classic, which I've found to have low motion transfer. To simulate a person sitting at the edge of the bed, I placed a 50-pound kettlebell along the perimeters of the mattress to get some hard data. We received the Purple Waterproof Mattress Protector within the 1-2 business days shipping period stated on their website. It arrived in a an easy-to-open plastic bag within a cardboard box. Test score: 5 out of 5 The light-weight protector proved to be 100% noiseless throughout the one week I slept on it. In fact, I almost forgot I had it on my mattress since the top soft-knit fabric and the waterproof backing was found to be completely crinkle-free and comfy, like an invisible protective barrier for your bed. Test score: 5 out of 5 The mattress protector was surprisingly lightweight, easy to unpack and popping it on my mattress proved to be a breeze. I chose for the standard skirt length to fit my mattress, but those with luxury tall mattresses should opt for the deeper skirt length (which fits mattresses up to 20" deep.) The elasticated bands stretches well to completely envelop the bed on all sides and remained securely in place throughout the testing period. The skirt fabric reached all the way down to the mattress which meant it will prevent any common allergens getting into your bed, which is good news for anyone who prioritizes hygienic sleep, but especially those with allergies. Despite its lack of cooling tech, I didn't experienced any overheating, nightsweats or discomfort when sleeping on it and found it slept at a neutral temperature. However, if you're a hot sleeper, it is wise to invest in a dedicatedly cooling model, like the Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling mattress protector. Test score: 4 out of 5 I'll be honest, I had my doubts about the waterproofing abilities of the Purple protector due to its very thin build (to the extent that the sponge pad and paper towel was visible beneath the protector.) However, it proved to be 100% waterproof in my spill and wash tests. I placed a sponge pad and a paper towel beneath the protector before pouring both water and coffee separately. During both instances, the paper towel and sponge pad remained dry and stain-free, indicating that the liquid was effectively contained by the protector. I did notice that the liquid spread across the surface very quickly, even going beyond the spill-free zone, but my mattress remained dry and clean, thanks to the protector. I washed the protector on a cold gentle cycle and later air-dried it while keeping a de-humidifier on. The coffee stain had entirely vanished, leaving no evidence of a spill happening at all. The overall customer rating is 4.6 with mostly 4 and 5 star reviews on both sites. Most users echo my experience, saying that it proved be an invisible, comfy and waterproof barrier safeguarding the mattress. On the other hand, some pointed out that the waterproofing was below par with heavier spills seeping through the thin protector. This doesn't align with my experience. However, prologued washing of a waterproof mattress can slowly erode its waterproofing barrier. If you're someone (like me) who hates the idea of a wet heavy mattress protector right out of the washing machine, you're in for a treat. The Purple mattress protector is much more lightweight compared to other TPU backed protectors I've used. The brand recommends washing the Purple Waterproof Mattress Protector on a gentle cold cycle. While it can also be tumble-dried (on low heat), I air-dried it, keeping a de-humidifier on. Make sure to not use any harsh detergents or cleaning liquids as this can sometimes cause pilling. Not that I think you'll need to — the coffee stain completely vanished after a cold wash. However, it's best to avoid overloading your washing machine while popping in your protector which is a common bedding washing mistake, that can tamper with the process. Are you looking for a low-maintenance protector which is 100% waterproof, noiseless and lightweight? If so, the Purple Waterproof Mattress Protector is a worthwhile investment. I especially recommend it for sleepers prone to tossing and turning during sleep, thanks to its anti-crinkle soft-knit design. As well as being silent, it also acts as an invisible barrier, safeguarding your bed from all common allergens, spills and stains. However, some customer reviews suggest that thin build is insufficient in holding heavier spills or stains. For that reason, it might be best avoided in a kid's bedroom, where heavier spills are to be expected. Since we regard a mattress protector as an underrated bedding essential, our only other gripe against the Purple Waterproof Mattress Protector is the cost, with a twin starting at $112. However, those prone to overheating or nightsweats should consider a cooling protector, like the Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling or the Sijo Airyweight. ❌ You're expecting heavier spills: Some customer reviews stated that liquid seeped through the protector during instances of heavier spills in a kids bedroom. In which case, you might be better off with something a bit more robust, like the Sijo mentioned above. 1. Extras are good, with a 365-night trial, lifetime warranty and free shipping. Like the best hybrid mattresses, both beds consist of a coil support layer and a combination of foams for comfort. The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid's design varies slightly, depending on which firmness version you've chosen. The soft and medium mattresses start with a 1.5' quilted cover designed to help wick away moisture, followed by a 1.5' layer of responsive comfort foam to adjust to your sleeping position. A 1' layer of transition foam sits on top of the individually wrapped coil layer for contouring and motion isolation, and the mattress is finished off with a foam base for durability and longevity. The firm mattress has a slightly thinner quilted cover at 0.75', followed by 1' of the responsive comfort foam. A slightly thicker layer of transition foam at 2' provides more support and the slightly firmer feel. The DreamCloud Classic is the newest version of the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid and has undergone a few small design changes. The mattress starts with a quilted top with cooling fibers and a stitched in foam layer for breathability. This is followed by a layer of contouring memory foam to relieve pressure. Adaptive response foam for spinal alignment sits on top of the layer of individually wrapped coils for support and reducing motion transfer, with a thin layer of dense foam underneath to stabilize the mattress. Finally, a protective bottom cover keeps the mattress in place and helps with longevity. In our Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress review, our tester slept on the firm bed along with the optional pillow top. But our Sleep Editor has also tried out the medium firmness without the pillow top. Either way, you won't sink into the surface of the Signature Hybrid but, like the best pillow top mattresses, the optional pillow top does add a little softness. The choice of three firmness options means the mattress will suit a variety of sleepers – the soft is best suited to side sleepers, while the medium will suit side and back sleepers. The firm is best suited to back and stomach sleepers or those of a larger build. That said, the inclusion of a pillow top will soften the firmness up a little, but this is still a bed for those who prefer a bouncy and supportive feel. Motion isolation is also excellent, but edge support is a bit average in the corners and at the foot of the bed. DreamCloud has recently redesigned its signature mattress and the Luxury Hybrid that we reviewed in our DreamCloud mattress review is now the Classic, which we are in the process of reviewing. However, the mattress is still fundamentally the same and we expect the feel to be similar. We rate the DreamCloud as one of the best mattresses for back pain, with its fantastic ability to adapt quickly to the lumbar region and soothe away aches and pains. The DreamCloud is a great all-rounder, but our side sleepers did find it took a while for the mattress to mold to their bodies. While very lightweight side sleepers may find it too firm overall, that firmer support does make it one of the best mattresses for stomach sleepers. Motion isolation and edge support are great and those sharing a bed with a restless partner should definitely put this mattress on their shortlist. Hybrid mattresses are generally more breathable than all-foam so the expectation was that both these mattresses would provide good temperature regulation. However, our tester found that the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid slept hot – so much so that they woke up in the night feeling uncomfortable. This was particularly surprising as the cooling pillow top contains GlacioTex – usually found in some of the best cooling mattresses due to its abilities to keep sleepers cool. Hot sleepers will be better served on the DreamCloud Classic. Although the design has changed slightly, the mattress contains cooling fibers built into a cover that's extremely breathable. The additional of well-spaced coils means this mattress will be a better option if you do sleep hot. ✅ You want a range of customization options: Available in soft, medium and firm firmness options, you can also choose whether or not to add in a pillow top for added softness. ✅ You need an unusual size: With 14 sizes to choose from, including a range of RV mattress sizes, the Signature Hybrid will fit any unusual space. ✅ You want to lie on top of the mattress: If the idea of the 'hug' of memory foam brings you out in a rash, the firmer and bouncier feel of the Signature Hybrid could be your perfect blend. ✅ You sleep on your back: Although it's comfortable for all sleeping positions, back sleepers in particular should find the DreamCloud extremely supportive around the lumbar region. ✅ You experience with aches and pains: The DreamCloud is one of the mattresses we recommend to those with back pain, thanks to its soothing lumbar support. ✅ You sleep hot: Although it's not a cooling mattress the DreamCloud is incredibly breathable and offers great temperature regulation.
