Barabanki DM Shashank Tripathi said a monkey jumped on an electric wire, which broke and fell on a shed. Several were injured due to the electric shock.
"The injured were taken to Haidergarh and Trivediganj Community Health Centre. 2 people are in a critical situation and have been referred to the District Hospital...The law and order situation is normal here," he said.

Man dies of suspected poisoning in Kerala, friend held
Agency: PTI Kochi, Aug 1 (PTI) A 38-year-old man died at Kothamangalam here due to suspected poisoning by his female friend, police said on Friday. The man was admitted to a hospital on July 30 morning and died on July 31 night while undergoing treatment. A police officer said a bottle of a herbicide — paraquat — was found at the man's home. 'His female friend is a suspect in the case. Initially a case of attempted murder under the BNS was registered. With his death, it will have to be changed to a case of murder," the officer said. The 30-year-old woman is currently in police custody. Further steps will be taken after the postmortem of the body, the officer said. Three years ago, in a similar incident, a young woman had killed her male friend by giving him an ayurvedic tonic laced with paraquat at her home in Tamil Nadu's Kanyakumari. The male friend died 11 days later from multiple-organ failure at a medical college in Thiruvananthapuram. In January this year, a sessions court in Neyyattinkara sentenced the 24-year-old woman — Greeshma — to death for the murder of Sharon Raj. Two held after shootout with UP police in connection with hit-and-run case
Two men were arrested following a police encounter in connection with a hit-and-run incident that killed an e-rickshaw driver and injured four others in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district, officials said. The accused have been identified as Khurshid Shah of Kushinagar district, and Munab Ali of Gopalganj district in Bihar(PTI/Representational Image) According to Circle Officer (Salempur) Deepak Shukla, the incident occurred near Baruwadih village in the Bariyarpur police station area, where a pickup truck allegedly rammed into an e-rickshaw with the intent to kill. The collision led to the death of the e-rickshaw driver on the spot and left four passengers injured. The accused have been identified as Khurshid Shah of Kushinagar district, and Munab Ali of Gopalganj district in Bihar, Shukla said. Following the incident, Bariyarpur police reached the scene, arrested the two suspects, and brought them to the local police station, where a case under BNS sections 103 (murder) and 109 (attempt to murder) was registered. During a police-led site inspection of the vehicle used in the crime, the accused, late Thursday night, allegedly attempted to escape by pulling out country-made pistols hidden inside the pickup truck and opening fire on the police team. In retaliatory fire by the police, both suspects sustained bullet injuries to their legs, the officer said. They were immediately taken to the district hospital in Deoria for treatment. Authorities said further legal proceedings are underway, he added.

Delhi: ED raids against fake call centres duping US citizens
New Delhi, Aug 1 (PTI) The Enforcement Directorate has conducted searches in Delhi as part of a money laundering probe against a 'fake" call centre which allegedly duped US citizens by pitching sale of 'pirated" software, official sources said Friday. Three premises in Khanpur were raided around 10:30 pm on Thursday and the searches are still going on, they said. The action is being undertaken as per the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Preliminary investigation suggests, the sources said, that a call centre was being operated by some persons who misled citizens in countries like the US by pitching 'fictitious or pirated" software under the name of original software like Microsoft Windows. The agency suspects that funds worth Rs 100 crore have been received as foreign remittances over the past few years (2016-17 to 2024-25).
