The Philadelphia Museum of Art steps will not be the only place in the city with a Rocky statue.
The Philadelphia International Airport is set to have a Rocky statue, the public affairs manager of the City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation confirmed to CBS News Philadelphia on Thursday.
The Philadelphia Art Commission unanimously voted to grant final approval of the proposed state and its placement at the airport, a spokesperson for the City Department of Planning and Development said.
In an Art Commission Artwork Acquisition Approval Proposal from the Philadelphia Art Commission on July 30, the Rocky Monumental Statue is an original bronze 3 of 3 casting created by sculptor A. Thomas Schomberg, as said in the proposal from PHL. The proposal also said the statue is 10 feet tall and sits on a 3-foot-tall by 4-foot-square black steel base.
Schomberg, known for the Rocky statue, has a limited edition of three, according to his website. The three editions of the Rocky Monumental Statue are #1 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, #2, a private collection of Sylvester Stallone and #3 is available to purchase, which will now be at the airport.
The renderings were obtained from the Art Commission, the public affairs manager said.
"The Department of Aviation was approached by a partner who was aware that there is a third Rocky statue available for sale by the artist A. Thomas Schomberg," the managing principal of The Sheward Partnership said in the proposal. "The Department realized that this was a unique opportunity to enhance the guest experience by purchasing an iconic statue that is solely associated with the City of Philadelphia by its residents and people from near and far who travel to Philly to partake in its celebrity and story of triumph."
Philadelphia will now have two of the three original Rocky statues. It's unclear when the statue will be at the airport.
The proposal mentions that the statue will be at the airport's Terminal A-West, on the second floor concourse post TSA screening. There will be a backdrop of the airplanes for travelers to take selfies and group photos.
The Rocky statue at the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps is a tourist hotspot, admired by both natives and those new to the city.
The Rocky statue at the museum is no stranger to selfies, a note from Valentine's Day secret admirer, and even being defaced with San Francisco 49ers gear. There was even a first-ever RockyFest that kicked off in December 2024 with Stallone lending his own statue.
The airport is already preparing for a busy year ahead. With the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 2026 All-Star Game and the 250th anniversary of America's Independence all coming to the City of Brotherly Love, the Philly Pride is strong.

MSNBC name change: See what netizens are saying about the rebrand

MSNBC's rebrand isn't quite landing. After the cable-news network announced it would become My Source News Opinion World, or MS NOW, later this year, netizens have taken to social media to make their disdain for the name and logo change more than abundantly clear. The issue, according to the Internet, isn't just the name, it's also the look and 'feel' of the new logo. 'MSNBC changing its name to MS NOW is one of the worst branding disasters in media history. The logo looks like it belongs on a discount computer from 1998, not a serious news network,' one user wrote. 'Absurd.' The rebranding is part of a larger restructuring currently taking place at NBCUniversal. The network, along with other brands including USA Network, Syfy, CNBC, Golf Channel, GolfNow, and SportsEngine will become part of a new media company called VERSANT later this year. 'This name further underscores our mission: to serve as your destination for breaking news and thoughtful analysis and remain the home for the perspectives that you've relied on for nearly 30 years,' MSNBC said in an Aug. 18 statement.' See what netizens are saying about the rebrand. Why the name change? And what does MS NOW stand for? MS NOW stands for My Source News Opinion World and the name change, according to MSNBC, 'gives us the freedom to chart our own path forward, and we're excited about where it's headed.' The move conflicts with previous claims made by NBCUniversal that the network would be allowed to keep its name amid the shift. NBC's iconic peacock logo will no longer be used for the cable-news network, either. A memo sent Aug. 18 by MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler addressed the flip-flop, writing: 'During this time of transition, NBCUniversal decided that our brand requires a new, separate identity… The future of our success is not tied to remaining within the NBC family and using the peacock as part of our identity,' Rebecca Kutler, MSNBC President, wrote in an Aug. 18 memo addressed to staff. The peacock-looking logo, according to MSNBC CEO Mark Lazarus, 'is synonymous with NBCUniversal, and it is a symbol they have decided to keep within the NBCU family.' Because of this decision, MSNBC is now free to 'chart our own path forward, create distinct brand identities, and establish an independent news organization following the spin.' Social media reacts: 'I will never call it the new name' MSNBC has certainly ruffled some feathers with the announcement, with netizens posting reactions (complete with GIFs), opinions and critiques about the rebrand, dubbed one of the 'worst branding disasters in media history' on X, formerly known as Twitter, in the last 24 hours. Here's what netizens are saying, or have said, about MSNBC's proposed rebrand since the news broke on Aug. 18. Awkward - Women's Tennis Star Refuses Postgame Hug After Match

Awkward - Women's Tennis Star Refuses Postgame Hug After Match originally appeared on The Spun. The 2025 US Open's revamped mixed doubles tournament kicked off this Tuesday with a star-studded lineup that included the team of Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu. There was plenty of hype surrounding Alcaraz and Raducanu despite their lack of chemistry on the court. Alcaraz, 22, has been the talk of the tennis world for the past few years. The world No. 2 is already a five-time Grand Slam champion and is roughly 24 hours removed from winning the Cincinnati Masters. Raducanu, on the other hand, is slowly but surely climbing back up the WTA rankings. During the opening round of the mixed doubles tournament, Alcaraz and Raducanu squared off against Jack Draper and Jessica Pegula. They were no match for them, which makes sense considering Pegula was once the No. 1 doubles player in the world. While this Tuesday's match provided plenty of fireworks, it was Raducanu's post-match interaction with Draper that grabbed everyone's attention. Fans noticed that Raducanu didn't hug Draper after the match was over. It wouldn't have looked that awkward if Alcaraz had the same exchange with Pegula. However, they had a very friendly embrace at the net. Raducanu's interaction with Draper sparks speculation. "This can confirm they were a thing," one fan wrote on X. "Why would she hug him? The way he was acting and targeting her all match was so stupid. I'm glad she ignored," a second fan commented. "Oh no the Brits are fighting," a third fan said. "How ridiculous, she's so childish," another fan declared. With the win on Tuesday afternoon, Draper and Pegula secured a second-round match against Mirra Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev. As for Alcaraz and Raducanu, they'll now get ready for the US Open's main draw. The first round will begin on Sunday afternoon. Alcaraz has the second-best odds (+145) to win the US Open. He only trails the reigning champion, Jannik Sinner (+110). Moving over to the women's bracket, Raducanu is currently at +4000 to win it all. If she's going to recapture the magic that made her champion in 2021, she'll need to take down some of the top players in the world, such as Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek. Lansdowne Theater in Pennsylvania will reopen this week with a new mission after nearly 40 years

A historic Delaware County landmark is making a dramatic return after being closed for 38 years. The Lansdowne Theater is officially reopening on Friday, following a $20 million renovation funded through grants and private donations. The once-abandoned movie house is now a state-of-the-art concert venue, designed to breathe new life into the borough's downtown. "It was very exciting," Matt Schultz, executive director of the Historic Lansdowne Theater Corporation, said. "It was very, very scary at multiple times for lots of different reasons, but I'm glad we're coming out the other end." The theater has been standing since 1927, but it closed after a fire in 1987. Since then, it had fallen into disrepair until the community rallied behind a vision to transform it into a modern performance space with upgraded lighting, sound and new infrastructure. "We wanted to make the arts more accessible to people outside of the city," Schultz said. "And we also wanted to spur economic development throughout the business district." The theater's revival is already having an impact. Across the street, Backstage Tap + Grill recently opened its doors and its owner believes the theater's reopening signals a turning point for Lansdowne. "There's a general excitement in town about the opening and there's a real pride in the business district right now, which has been needed for a long time," Backstage Tap + Grill owner Dan Brodeur said. The first act to hit the stage will be Academy Award-nominated actor Chazz Palminteri, performing his acclaimed one-man show "A Bronx Tale." "People who love the movie A Bronx Tale will be really surprised to see, because I'm by myself and I do the whole movie on stage alone," Palminteri said. Concert promoters said the venue is already attracting attention from artists and fans across the region. "People that usually travel further to go see something may not have to do that now," Ken Alderfer, Senior VP at BRE Productions, said. "They can come here instead. So, I think that's significant." For longtime residents, the theater's grand return is the fulfillment of a promise. "I've lived here 22 years," Lansdowne resident Kymberly Hernandez said. "When I moved in, they said, 'Oh yeah, it's opening soon.' So it's nice to have it finally open." Schultz said he expects the theater to draw as many as 100,000 visitors per year, making it not only a cultural destination but a potential economic engine for Delaware County.
