Entertainment Union Coalition to Lobby in Sacramento as Part of Tax Credit Expansion Campaign
As efforts ramp up in Sacramento to expand California's film and TV production tax incentive program, the Entertainment Union Coalition (EUC) has launched a new campaign that will rally Hollywood labor to lobby for the expansion.
The new program, titled 'Keep California Rolling,' is kicking off in advance of the Oscars and will have its first major action on March 5, when 100 union workers will travel with EUC leaders to Sacramento. The workers will lobby members of the state legislature to support Gov. Gavin Newsom's proposed expansion of the tax credit program from $330 million to $750 million. 'California's entertainment industry sustains hundreds of thousands of middle-class jobs across every sector and in every corner the state,' said EUC President and Directors Guild of America Western Executive Director Rebecca Rhine.
The Entertainment Union Coalition includes all of the top entertainment unions in California, including WGA West, SAG-AFTRA, the Directors Guild, Hollywood Teamsters 399, the California IATSE Council, LiUNA 724 and the American Federation of Musicians. Workers from all member unions are expected to attend the lobbying session in Sacramento.
'It's essential that the expansion of the Film & TV tax credit program prioritizes workers rather than corporate profits,' she continued. 'The EUC fully supports the governor's proposal, marking the most significant expansion to the program in decades, but we must ensure it delivers on its promise: keeping production, and the jobs it creates, right here in California, where workers and their families can thrive in their own communities.'
The launch of 'Keep California Rolling' comes a day after several Los Angeles-based state lawmakers unveiled a pair of bills, Assembly Bill 1138 and Senate Bill 630, intended to make significant changes to the tax credit program.
Details of those bills are still forthcoming pending meetings between the bill's authors and major stakeholders — including the EUC and Hollywood studios — but a major expected change is a drastic expansion of the types of productions that would be eligible for tax credits. This could possibly include categories like reality TV, which saw a near 46% year-over-year decline in shoot days in Los Angeles, according to FilmLA.
'77% of the projects that are unable to secure a tax credit here in the state end up going elsewhere. These are productions that wanted to do the work here,' State Sen. Ben Allen said Wednesday. 'This has led to a loss of nearly a billion dollars in production spending which leads to lost jobs, lost economic gains.'

Diddy's team fought back against the date -- pointing out he was on the East Coast on the "Bad Boy Family Reunion" tour at the time and couldn't have been in L.A. where Bongolan says the incident went down. Prosecutors later pointed to texts Cassie sent to Kristina Khorram -- Diddy's employee often referred to as his chief of staff -- which indicate the alleged assault may have happened a few days after the photos were taken. Bongolan had trouble remembering key details of the alleged incident in her recounts ... changing what she was smoking on the balcony and saying she couldn't recall quite a bit during her retelling of it. So, it's unclear how exactly Bryana sustained the injuries in these photos ... but, they certainly led to some fireworks in court.

Unsurprisingly, some of these fans took to social media to slam the singer, accusing her of scamming them out of their hard-earned funds. One angry individual claimed that they had spent thousands of dollars flying in with their daughters to attend the event and now wants their money back. "This was advertised as a CONCERT," the fan said. "This was a rip-off. I want my money back and an apology. FALSE ADVERTISING x100! All the people in the lobby were angry at being scammed." Another irate fan claimed she spent her "rent" money to purchase what she thought were "concert" tickets. The fan penned, "False advertising 1000%. My favorite artist of all time, I couldn't be more disappointed. You failed everyone at the beacon tonight…" One more fan claimed that Cyrus didn't make it clear that it was a film and not a concert. They added, "[I] never felt more scammed paying hundreds for something that was basically a marathon viewing of music videos. Something Beautiful? Something Scammy? In the wake of the backlash, some individuals defended Cyrus and branded the reaction from disgruntled fans as "disrespectful." "This makes me mad. We already know about her vocal issues. Chris Demirchyan has sued Forest Lawn Mortuary and the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Association for fraud, breach of contract, negligence and negligent infliction of emotional distress and is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, according to a lawsuit obtained by PEOPLE. Back in 2008, Chris' parents purchased two burial plots at the cemetery. In 2012, he allegedly requested they "release their two plots to allow for the family to have a total of six burial plots in the same area," and he went on to secure "four additional burial plots," the legal document claims. When Chris' mother died in July 2021, she was buried in one of the purchased plots a month later. Then, in September, the complaint claims Chris "entered into a contract" to get a headstone, but the legal document alleges that one "bearing [his] mother's name was ultimately placed on the wrong burial site." Per the lawsuit, Chris and his family "were unaware of this misplacement and continued visiting the incorrect site." When Chris' dad died earlier this year in April, the complaint claims the man and his family made arrangements for their late father to be buried in the adjacent plot next to where they believed their mother to be. However, during the service for his father, the legal document claims that Chris was informed "that while [his] mother was correctly buried in her designated plot, the headstone bearing her name had been placed on a different gravesite." Chris, the complaint claims, "was shocked, devastated and overwhelmed upon learning that the family had been grieving and visiting the wrong site for [his] mother for approximately 4 years." Per the legal document, Forest Lawn Memorial Park "promised that the issue would be corrected," and the cemetery subsequently "removed the incorrectly placed headstone and placed it on the correct site." The ordeal caused Chris "significant emotional distress, including shock, grief and ongoing mental anguish from having grieved and visited the wrong site for [his] mother," according to the complaint. It added that he also "suffered economic losses, emotional distress and other damages as a direct result" of the alleged mix-up. The legal document further accuses the Forest Lawn Memorial Park of being "reckless, negligent and in breach of its contractual obligations to [Chris], including its duty to properly place and maintain the headstone." Speaking with NBC Los Angeles, Chris' sister, Marine Demirchyan, said the ordeal has left her deeply upset. 'When she passed, I thought, 'At least, we have given her a peaceful, respectful place to rest.' But seeing her memorial tablet placed on the wrong grave, it felt like losing her all over again,' she told the outlet. "We were just talking to an empty spot.' 'She was caring. She was loving," Chris added of his mother, also asking NBC Los Angeles: "How could this happen?" In a statement shared with PEOPLE, Chris' attorney, Rosie Zilifyan, said: "Forest Lawn's failure to fulfill its most basic responsibilities—ensuring that a loved one's grave is properly marked — was not just negligent; it was callous. Our lawsuit seeks to hold Forest Lawn fully accountable for its reckless mishandling and to ensure no other family is forced to endure a similar ordeal."
