Supermarket's 28p own-brand Diet Coke is ‘so good' you can't tell difference
If you're a Diet Coke fan, I have no doubt that you take your allegiance to the fizzy drink very seriously.
So the idea of swapping out the branded version for a supermarket own-brand cola might feel like a personal attack.
But often these versions are much cheaper than the real thing, so we decided to put them to the test to see if we could save ourselves some money when it comes to our carbonated addiction.
We tried five supermarket own-brand Diet Colas and while none of them were deemed to be better than the original, a bargain retailer had a surprising gem that was on par.

Sorry Tesco, but your Diet Cola has nothing on the real thing. I could instantly tell wasn't actual Diet Coke – it just tastes fake. I don't think I'd be able to make it through an entire can…

This will probably sound a bit odd, but Asda's Diet Cola tastes thinner than the other drinks in this taste test. Almost like it's been watered down a little bit? It's notably less artificially sweet than the Tesco one, but certainly not the best of the bunch.

For 49p, this one from Sainsbury's is a solid option if you're looking to save money. It's not anywhere near as crisp and fizzy as Diet Coke, but it's got a good flavour and doesn't taste too sweet.

Lidl Freeway Diet Cola, 49p for 2L bottle or £1.79 for a six-pack of cans
Lidl came out on top in our full fat Coca-Cola taste test recently, but the retailer has just missed out on the top spot in this one.
The Freeway Diet Cola doesn't have as much fizz and actualy tastes a bit flat, which is a shame as the drink itself is pretty nice with just the right level of sweetness – I'd definitely have another one.

Aldi Diet Vive, £1.69 for six pack (28p a can)
As a Diet Coke superfan, it would take a lot for me to give up my favourite drink, but I might be willing (on occasion) to swap it for Aldi's version which is very good. More Trending
It's really hard to distinguish between the two and in a blind taste test of both it took a while to work out which was which. The difference is so subtle, and again it just comes down to a little less fizz in the Diet Vive.

With summer now upon us, and the Met Office predicting a scorcher, many of us are likely excitedly making plans for girly brunches and garden parties. Finding a new outfit for each event can be one of the highlights of going out, however, with the cost of living crisis continuing to bite, forking out for a new frock is not affordable for many. For those keen to look their best without breaking the bank, Sainsbury's Floral Tea Dress is perfect for every occasion. The dress comes in two designs, pink floral, and floral printed gingham, both priced at £26. It comes in a wide range of sizes, from size six to size 24, and is available in store, or on the Sainsbury's website. Sainsbury's said: "An elegant yet versatile piece for your summer rotation, this tea dress has been designed in a blue gingham patteren with a floral print. "Cut to a midaxi length, it features flattering puff sleeves and v-neckline." The short sleeve number is a versatile piece, that would look chic dressed up with heels, and equally great dressed down with boots or trainers. Describing it online, the Sainsbury's team say: "Perfect for summer occasions, our yellow tea dress has been designed with puff sleeves, an elasticated waist with shirred detailing, finished with a tie fastening at the neckline for a touch of elegance. "Cut to a flattering, midaxi length. Wear with suede sandals and golden accessories." The dress is already sold out online so you'll need to be quick to get your hands on it in store. Is supermarket fashion the new high street? DEPUTY Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in: The supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, as you head in to do your weekly food shop you can also pick up a selection of purse-friendly, stylish pieces for all the family. Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent increase in the quarter thanks to a 'strong growth in clothing' and M&S has earnt the title of the number one destination for womenswear on the high street. The winner of a haul also included fun stripy pyjama-style shorts going for just £12.50 - perfect for heading to the beach or chilling in your garden. Other jaw-dropping dress options included a flowy midi dress in light grey for £32.50, a strappy black maxi dress with frill detailing throughout, £29.50, as well as a sleeveless gown in neutral shades for a wallet-friendly £19.50. But recently those prices have risen with the brand's popularity.
