Jasprit Bumrah To Miss More Than 1 Test vs England? Pacer Says "What I Can Manage..."
Indian cricket team star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has revealed that it is likely that he will play three Tests in the upcoming five-match series against England. There has been a lot of chatter surrounding his workload management and BCCI previously made it clear that he will not be playing all the five matches. During an interview with former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik for Sky Sports Cricket, Bumrah said that the number is not decided but he is looking to play in 3 Tests keeping his workload in mind. However, he did hint that he can play one more Test if the team and situations needs it. 'Plan on the go. 3 Test matches is what I'm looking at,' Bumrah said.
'Obviously, the number is not decided. First (Test) is definitely on, that is going to happen. Rest, we will see how things are, what is the workload and scenario... but yes. 3 Tests is what I can manage at the moment.'
Bumrah finally broke his silence on not becoming the Indian cricket team captain for the upcoming Test series against England.
In a recent interview, Bumrah revealed that he was a captaincy choice for the BCCI selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar but the star fast bowler had to turn them down due to 'workload management'.
As a result, Shubman Gill was handed the captaincy after the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant was appointed his deputy for the England series. In the interview with former India wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik on SKY Sports, Bumrah shared his conversation with the BCCI selectors regarding his workload and how hard it was for him to give up captaincy.
"Before Rohit and Virat retired during the IPL, I had spoken to the BCCI about my workloads going forward in a five-test match series. I've spoken to the people who have managed my back. I've spoken to the surgeon as well, who's always spoken to me about how smart you have to be about the workloads. So I did speak to him, and then we came to the conclusion that I have to be a little smarter. So then I called the BCCI and said I don't want to be looked at in a leadership role because I won't be able to give all the Test matches in a five-test match series," Bumrah said.

Karun Nair, who returns to the Test team after eight years, should be the ideal choice at No.5 at Headingley based on current form, feels Shastri. 'In all probability, depending on what the current form is, it'll be Karun Nair. He bats at five, it's a long time since he played for India. Six will be (Rishabh) Pant. 'I think he (Nair) has worked really hard. He's just worked his way back into the side. The number of runs he's got in First-Class cricket is incredible. 'And I met him during an IPL game. I said, 'Don't just bang the door. Just kick it down and make your way in and walk into that side'. And I think he's done just that. Just the number of runs that he's got has made the selectors look in that direction and give him a place,' Shastri added. In terms of bowling, Shastri prefers three pacers considering the conditions in Leeds. 'I know it'll be a tough one between Shardul (Thakur) and Nitish Reddy, but you have to see who bowls how much. If Reddy is going to give you 12, 14 overs, then he might get the nod because of his batting. 'And the three fast bowlers would be, I would go with Prasidh Krishna, I would go with Mohammed Siraj and of course Jasprit Bumrah. India dealt narrow 1-2 defeat by Australia in FIH Hockey Pro League (Women)
London, June 16 (UNI) The Indian Women's Hockey Team were dealt a narrow 1–2 defeat by Australia in their FIH Hockey Pro League 2024/25 match at the Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Centre here. Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke (3') scored the only goal for India while Amy Lawton (37') and Lexie Pickering (60') were the goalscorers for Australia. India took an early lead in the proceedings but Australia made a comeback with a goal in the third and final minute of the fourth quarter to seal the victory on Sunday. India made a bright start to the game as they won three back-to-back penalty corners in the very first minute, adding pressure on the Australian backline. India carried on their momentum and scored the opening goal as early as the third minute to take charge of the match. Navneet Kaur carried the ball forward and passed it to Sharmila Devi on the left who played it to the far post for Vaishnavi as she deflected the ball into the net. India continued to pile on the pressure as Navneet came close to extending the lead but narrowly missed the target. Minutes later, Australia won two back-to-back penalty corners towards the end of first quarter but India did well at the back to maintain their lead. Australia improved their performance in the second quarter and started creating good goalscoring chances. Both sides exchanged possession and battled it out in the midfield but they couldn't be separated in the second quarter as India headed into the second half with a goal in hand. Australia were more dominant in the third quarter and caused troubles for the Indian defence. Greta Hayes came teasingly close to scoring a goal as she struck a shot towards an empty net, however, the ball was stopped by her own teammate by accident. BCCI pleas on arbitration awards dismissed in Kochi IPL franchise case
MUMBAI: In a setback for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Bombay High Court on Tuesday refused to interfere with two arbitration awards, directing the cricket controlling body to pay ₹385.50 crore to Kochi Cricket Private Ltd (KCPL) and ₹153.34 crore to Rendezvous Sports World (RSW) in connection with the Kochi IPL (Indian Premier League) franchise. A single judge bench of Justice Riyaz Chagla rejected two arbitration petitions challenging separate arbitration awards passed in connection with franchise agreements executed with RSW in April 2010 and in March 2011 with KCPL – a joint venture between BCCI and RSW. Both the arbitral awards were passed on June 22, 2015. On September 19, 2011, BCCI terminated its franchise agreements with RSW and KCPL over non-furnishing of requisite bank guarantees contemplated under the agreements, after both invoked arbitration clauses. The arbitrator ruled in favour of the franchise owner and the joint venture, and directed the cricket controlling body to pay ₹385.50 crore to KCPL and ₹153.34 crore to RSW along with interest at the rate of 18% per annum. The BCCI challenged the award before the high court, contending that the arbitral award suffered from several errors apparent on the face of the record, misapplication of legal principles, and findings unsupported by evidence, warranting its setting aside under Section 34 of the Arbitration Act. TN Subramanian, senior counsel, appearing for the BCCI in one of the petitions, submitted that the impugned award having been passed in the arbitral proceedings commenced pursuant to the defective notice invoking arbitration, and hence cannot be sustained and ought to be set aside by the court. Senior counsel Vikram Nankani, appearing for RSW and KCPL argued that the BCCI's move of terminating the agreement was mala fide and that the arbitral award did not require interference by the court. 'There is no patent illegality in the impugned awards which requires any interference by this court,' the high court observed while dismissing BCCI's petitions. KCPL and RSW have been permitted to withdraw the sums deposited by the BCCI after a period of six weeks from the order on Tuesday, on the request of BCCI's senior counsel Rafiq Dada, to allow the cricket body time to file an appeal against the high court's ruling. BCCI officials were not available for comment. Secretary Devajit Saikia did not respond to HT'S query on whether BCCI intends to contest the ruling.
