Alabama baseball vs Tennessee second round showdown postponed by SEC
HOOVER — Alabama baseball's originally scheduled matchup against Tennessee in the 2025 SEC Tournament has been pushed back.
The league office announced Tuesday evening that second round games Wednesday would be delayed as a result of incoming severe weather in the area surrounding the Hoover Met that interrupted the completion of the first round.

Game 4 of the SEC Baseball Tournament between Mississippi State and Texas A&M was originally scheduled to be played 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 3 between Florida and South Carolina, but has since been moved to the 9:30 a.m. CT slot that Alabama (41-15) was originally slated to play in against the Volunteers.

Start time for Alabama baseball vs Tennessee in SEC Tournament is 'TBD,' according to the league
Now, the start time for No. 9 seed Crimson Tide and No. 8 seed Tennessee (41-15) is "TBD," according to the SEC. The league stated that ticket holders with tickets for Session 2 and Session 3 will be admitted to Games 4 and 5 and those with tickets for Session 3 and Session 4 will be granted entry to Games 6 and 7.

After Alabama and Tennessee, No. 12 seed Oklahoma will face No. 5 seed Georgia and the winner of Florida-South Carolina will meet No. 7 seed Ole Miss at a time that has yet to be determined.
All contests on Wednesday will be shown on the SEC Network.

Former Alabama defensive tackle Daron Payne to host football camp
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Former Alabama football defensive lineman Daron Payne is hosting a free football camp on June 16. Mark Ingram on College Football Hall of Fame ballot Payne, who plays for the Washington Commanders, was a selected with the 13th pick in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He was part of two national championship teams during his time at Alabama, the 2015 team that defeated Clemson, 45-40, and the 2017 team that beat Georgia, 26-23. He's played for the Commanders his whole career and made the Pro Bowl in 2018. The camp is scheduled for June 16 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Shades Valley High School. A year from World Cup, US tries to right itself after Copa America and CONCACAF Nations League flops
One year from hosting the World Cup for the first time since 1994, the U.S. team is struggling to right itself on the field and regain the confidence of a distressed fan base. Shaken by flops at the Copa America and the CONCACAF Nations League, the U.S. plays Turkey on Saturday at East Hartford, Connecticut, and Switzerland on Tuesday at Nashville, Tennessee. The team then heads to the CONCACAF Gold Cup, its last competitive matches until the Americans' World Cup opener on June 12 next year. 'There is a palpable and fair angst and maybe even worse apathy relative to this team given its recent failures,' former American defender and Fox Sports lead analyst Alexi Lalas said Friday. 'A year out from the World Cup, I don't think that many of us predicted that we would be in this frame of mind at this point in time.' After reaching the second round of the 2022 World Cup, the U.S. was eliminated in the group stage of the Copa America last summer, causing the U.S. Soccer Federation to replace coach Gregg Berhalter with Mauricio Pochettino. The Americans then lost to Panama and Canada at the CONCACAF Nations League final four in March. 'We've struggled. We've got beat down ... pegged back a stone, so to speak,' midfielder Tyler Adams, the 2022 World Cup captain, said Friday from the team's training camp in Chicago. 'We need to continue to prove that we are at this level and able to improve.' Among the missing are Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Tim Weah, Antonee Robinson, Sergiño Dest, Yunus Musah, Folarin Balogun and Gio Reyna. Some are hurt, some want time off and some will be at the Club World Cup. Pochettino's roster includes seven players who could make national team debuts and 15 from Major League Soccer. The group averages 16 international appearances and will compete in a tournament where defending champion Mexico has many of its veterans. 'Good enough? I will let you know after,' Pochettino said. 'I think we have quality players and now, of course, we need to build a team, a team that fights for each other and show that we have the quality.' After this tournament, there will be just four more FIFA windows until players arrive for training ahead of the World Cup, and the team will play only non-competition games. 'I don't think there's any denying that some of our performances have fallen short over the past year to 18 months,' said 32-year-old defender Walker Zimmerman, a 2022 World Cup veteran. 'It's something that us as players we obviously aren't satisfied with and that's a big focal point for this camp.' Pochettino has selected 59 players since taking over in October. He turned over the roster after the team's dismal showing in March. 'We can lose, but there's a way to lose and I think that what we showed out on the pitch, to the fans, wasn't anywhere near good enough in terms of the mentality and intensity,' goalkeeper Matt Turner said. 'When you lose and then you have so long in between games, you know you obviously think a lot about what could have gone different and you analyze every aspect of environment, player selection and all that. But for us we know from player one to player 60 or however many are in this pool, the minimum standard is that we're going show up and we're going to be intense and we lacked that in Los Angeles.' Diego Luna, a 21-year-old midfielder, impressed Pochettino during his international debut against Costa Rica in January when his nose was broken by an early elbow and he insisted on staying in the game through the first half with cotton stuffed in his nose to absorb the blood. 'That experience for me was, I could say, life-changing,' Luna said. 'I think added an opportunity for me to come back into more camps and show the type of the grit and the hunger that I have to play and represent for my country. ... One specific area Alabama's defense must address to be a contender in 2025, expert says The start of the 2025 college football season is 78 days away, and 85 days remain until the Alabama Crimson Tide open the season against the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee. While SEC commissioner Greg Sankey and others are still trying to re-legislate Alabama's absence from last year's College Football Playoff, only 12 Saturdays remain until Alabama-FSU. Both teams are looking for bounce-back years in 2025. The Crimson Tide want to improve on a 9-3 regular season in Kalen DeBoer's first year, which included a blowout loss to Oklahoma in Week 13 that ultimately kept Alabama from reaching the first-ever 12-team playoff field. Florida State is in need of a hard reset. Mike Norvello's Seminoles followed up their 12-0 regular season and ACC championship from 2023 with a woeful 2-10 record last year that featured only one win vs. a Power Four school. One potential concern for Alabama heading into 2025? CBS Sports and 247Sports analyst Brad Crawford believes it's on defense -- more specifically, the need for Kane Wommack's unit to establish a pass rush. Per Crawford: "Make no mistake -- this should be a stout defense for the Crimson Tide, especially considering cornerbacks tandem Zabien Brown and Domani Jackson are being discussed as one of the best in the conference. But if there's one area of concern, it's the ability to produce havoc numbers on the interior and edge since Alabama's inexperienced beyond James Smith and nose tackle Tim Keenan III. The Crimson Tide need a difference-making campaign out of LT Overton, who has best-in-the-conference type of potential." Overton was recently named to the 2025 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List, along with linebacker Deontae Lawson. Lawson's 76 tackles were second on the team last year behind linebacker Jihaad Campbell, who departed for the NFL after a terrific junior season. Alabama's pass rush generated 25 sacks for 172 sacks yards. That ranked only 69th in FBS and was 14th out of the 16 SEC schools. Year 2 of the DeBoer era in Tuscaloosa will coincide with Alabama's first ever visit to Doak Campbell Stadium on Aug. 30. The Crimson Tide and Seminoles will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC. Alabama is No. 9 in Crawford's post-spring top 25 rankings. ESPN and USA TODAY Sports also have the Crimson Tide at No. 9 in their respective post-spring rankings.
