Google Play Integrates K PLUS via Antom Merchant Payment Service, Expanding Payment Options for Users in Thailand

Business Wire31-07-2025
SINGAPORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Google Play, Ant International's Antom and KASIKORNBANK today announced the launch of K PLUS as a new local payment method on Google Play, marking the first time that a SEA mobile banking app is made available as a payment option in the platform.
Google Play gives users one place to find, enjoy and share their favorite apps, games, books and more, for any Android device. K PLUS, operated by KASIKORNBANK, is one of SEA's most widely used mobile banking apps. Its 14 million users on Android devices will be able to pay for global and local digital content on Google Play using their everyday banking app.
The rollout also marks the first time that Antom, the unified merchant payment service under Ant International, enables recurring payment capabilities on a banking app to support global enterprise merchants, building on its experience with digital wallets.
Antom has been a strategic partner to Google Play in expanding payment options in Asia Pacific (APAC), and continues driving growth in both transaction volumes and user acquisitions. With the K PLUS launch, Antom further strengthens its collaboration with Google Play, by adding digital wallets that serve millions of users in the region.
Leveraging its AI-driven solutions for payment orchestration, risk management and digital marketing, Antom supports merchants to integrate over 300 payment methods across over 100 currencies in its extensive global acquiring network.
The Asia Pacific region leads the world in digital payment adoption, accounting for nearly two-thirds of global digital wallet spend in 2024, according to a Deloitte report 1. In response to this growth, Antom has helped Google Play enable a growing list of leading payment options including DANA, GCash and Touch 'n Go eWallet since 2022. Google Play and Antom will continue to work together to increase local payment coverage and enhance payment experiences.
Beyond payments, Antom also supports Google Play in launching digital campaigns through its A+ Rewards, an in-App digital marketing platform powered by privacy-preserving computing and AI technologies. Embedded within leading e-wallets across Asia, A+Rewards connects Google Play with hundreds of millions of e-wallet users. Over 2023 and 2024, consumers claimed over 20 million Google Play vouchers from A+Rewards on regional e-wallets.
'Google Play is committed to continuously providing the best experience for users and supporting the growth of the digital ecosystem for developers. We're excited to announce that Google Play now supports K PLUS as a new payment option in Thailand,' said Zulfi Rahardian, Head of Google Play Retail & Payments Activation, Southeast Asia. 'With this launch, we hope Thai consumers can purchase games, apps, entertainment and digital content more easily through safe, fast, and seamless transactions.'
'At KASIKORNBANK, we are committed to continuously enhancing our digital payment infrastructure to offer our customers a seamless, fast, and secure financial experience. This collaboration with Google Play and Antom expands payment choices for Google Play users in Thailand, allowing them to pay directly for apps and digital content by linking their account with K PLUS. We are proud to be the first bank in Thailand and SEA to enable mobile banking payments on Google Play. Today, we have around 14 million K PLUS users on Android, and our goal is to have more than 1 million linked accounts by the end of 2025,' said Dr. Ketchayong Skowratananont, Executive Vice President of KASIKORNBANK.
'Payment localisation isn't just about convenience. It's about building the infrastructure for digital inclusion,' said Gary Liu, General Manager of Antom, Ant International. 'We're excited to expand our collaboration with Google Play by introducing K PLUS as a new payment option. With AI-powered solutions, we aim to make digital payments easier and more secure while helping merchants scale more efficiently.'

Alpha Metallurgical Resources Inc (NYSE:AMR) is on track with the development of the Kingston Wildcat mine, with expectations of first coal production and shipments by the end of the year. Negative Points Metallurgical coal markets remain challenged due to weak steel demand and lackluster global economic growth expectations. Met coal indexes have stayed depressed, with US East Coast High Vol A and High Vol B pricing mechanisms reaching multiyear lows. The company faces uncertainty around the global economy and potential impacts of higher tariffs. Alpha Metallurgical Resources Inc (NYSE:AMR) is experiencing increased costs from suppliers due to tariff impacts on their businesses. The company is increasing its idle operations expense guidance for the year, indicating potential inefficiencies or challenges in certain operations. Q & A Highlights Q: Your cost improvements quarter-on-quarter were astounding. Can you walk us through where the savings came from, and can you speak to the sustainability of these costs? A: The savings were roughly 50-50 between productivity improvements and actual spend reductions. The productivity increased by about 10% quarter-over-quarter, which helped significantly. The first quarter was challenging due to weather-related delays. We believe the changes we've made are fundamental, and we are hopeful to maintain this run rate. (Andy Eidson, CEO; Jason Whitehead, COO) Q: As we start to think about 2026, is it fair to assume that we could see costs dip below the $100 mark? A: While we missed sub-$100 by $0.07, it's certainly possible to achieve that in the future. We are always looking for ways to improve, but it gets more challenging as we dig deeper. We remain hopeful for continued improvements. (Andy Eidson, CEO) Q: How are you approaching domestic contracting, especially as steelmakers might be looking for more market-based pricing? A: We approach it with a view of sustaining our business over a 12-month term, not just selling a spot ton today. We need pricing that works for us over the year, regardless of the seaborne market. (Daniel Horn, CCO) Q: There was a swap in volume terms of tons priced using different indices. Can you explain this? A: In any given quarter, shipments can vary based on buyer schedules. It's not unusual to have heavier shipments to Asia or Europe in different quarters. We don't control this variability. (Daniel Horn, CCO) Q: What net price are you assuming for the updated cash cost guidance for the full year? A: We are holding flat with where we are. There's been little variation from January to now, so we are maintaining a tight band. (Andy Eidson, CEO) Q: How do you think recent trade tensions and tariffs with India and Brazil could impact your business? A: We haven't received any negative feedback from customers in those countries. Business continues as usual, and we are still receiving solicitations. (Daniel Horn, CCO) Q: How many domestic tons do you have contracted for 2025, and have you picked up any business due to market hardships faced by peers? A: We expect to ship around 3.5 million tons domestically this year. There hasn't been much spot activity, and domestic contracts are more steady state compared to the seaborne market. (Daniel Horn, CCO) Q: Can you provide an update on the DTA project and its expected completion? A: We expect to spend around $25 million annually on the project, with completion anticipated by 2028. Apple Music for Android gets redesigned with lyrics and translation

Engadget has been testing and reviewing consumer tech since 2004. Our stories may include affiliate links; if you buy something through a link, we may earn a commission. Read more about how we evaluate products. Apple has released the beta version of Apple Music version 5.0 for Android, and as 9to5Google reports, it doesn't feature a Liquid Glass redesign like its counterpart for iOS 26. Liquid Glass is what Apple calls its new visual language, so it's not quite clear whether the Android iteration of the app will ever get the same visual overhaul. It did get a handful of elements from the iOS 26 version, though, including new pill-shaped buttons for play, shuffle and repeat at the top of albums, playlists and tracks on queue to replace the rectangular buttons with rounded corners. Users will also apparently be able to pin music to the top of their Library. They can pin artists, whole albums, playlists or just specific songs for easy access if they want, and they can set anything they pin to be automatically downloaded to their device. 9to5Google says anything they pin will be synced with their Music app for iOS, but they can easily unpin things by long-pressing on them in the Library. The Android app will also come with "lyrics translation and pronunciation guide," which is powered by Apple Intelligence on iPhones. If it is the same live translation feature, it will presumably be powered by Google's own AI on Android. Users will also be able to get their monthly and yearly replay stats within the app. Unfortunately, there's no confirmation that AutoMix, the big addition to the app for iOS 26 and the more advanced version of crossfade, is coming to Android. The feature uses DJ-style transitions between tracks, mixing the end of one track and the beginning of another by playing with tempos and adding gently fading in drums or bass loops.

I swapped my home internet for a 5G connection for 6 weeks — here's what happened

I've been having problems with my cable broadband over the last couple of months. To the point where I had a complete loss of service for over 6 weeks, and had to find some kind of alternative to keep myself running. My ISP didn't seem interested in getting my connection fixed properly, and I had to contend with both remote work and the needs of my smart home devices. That is where an often-overlooked Android feature came to my rescue. Ethernet tethering meant I could plug an old Google Pixel 8a, complete with an unlimited data SIM, into my home Wi-Fi network and get everything back online in about 10 seconds. And it worked right up until my internet connection decided it was going to start working again — regardless of how useless my ISP was being. In fact, it worked so well that I may end up ditching cable broadband altogether, and run my home on a 5G connection full time. The specific problem with my internet is one that many of you will be familiar with. Out of nowhere, after a day or two of instability, the connection just died. Rather than just play the Chrome Dinosaur game on a loop, I obviously wanted to get everything back up and running as soon as possible. Worse still, the engineer who came to fix it told me he couldn't find a problem and that he would have to request a brand new cable be installed between my house and the street. As it turned out, this was going to take at least two weeks to happen. What I didn't know at the time was that this would actually take closer to two months, with various engineering teams either not showing up or not doing the job when they did. But even before I knew how bad it would get, I knew that I wouldn't be able to survive on just tethering for two weeks. I work from home full time, and my wife is here 3 days out of the week. So even if I were conservative with my data, that would eat through my data allowance very quickly. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Not to mention the fact that a bunch of my smart home tech needs an active internet connection to work properly. Not only would resetting all the network settings to my personal hotspot take an absurd amount of time, which would have to be repeated when the home connection eventually came back, but they'd be back to square one if my phone ever went out of range. Thankfully, I could get something pretty close to normal operation, thanks to Android's Ethernet tethering. Ethernet tethering is, as the name suggests, a way to share your phone's cellular data via an Ethernet cable — aided by an appropriate adapter, of course. The benefit here is that you can then share a data connection to things that otherwise can't connect wirelessly or via a USB cable. In my case, it was an Orbi Mesh router. Unlike some newer and more advanced Wi-Fi routers, this router can't receive data via the USB port — which is why I'm so grateful Ethernet tethering actually exists. My ISP-supplied router is only used as a modem, so the rest of my home network connects to that Orbi router. The only thing missing from the equation was data, since the mesh network was working just fine. So once my phone (a Pixel 8a) was plugged into the router, everything came back online right away. The only major snag I had to deal with was making sure the phone stayed powered on. Ethernet tethering uses up a lot of power, and sometimes a regular, slow charger couldn't keep up. Admittedly, the 5G connection wasn't particularly fast. It's still pretty new in my area, and since they don't have mmWave 5G in the U.K., the speeds were nowhere near what I typically get via the landline. We're talking around 75-100Mbps on 5G vs 175-250 Mbps with that physical fibre connection. But I'll level with you, I honestly didn't notice much of a difference most of the time. But, of course, downloading the larger files, like updating my Nintendo Switch 2 games, did take a lot longer than I anticipated. Almost an hour, just to download Mario Kart World from the eShop, in fact. But browsing, 4K streaming and all the other things I would normally do around the house worked just fine. Though admittedly, I didn't do any online gaming, because it's not something I really enjoy, and I couldn't say how much of an impact the totally wireless connection might have had. In fact, the whole system worked so well that I may well transition to 5G broadband once my cable broadband plan expires. Rather than going through the whole song and dance of threatening to leave unless they give me a much better price. At the very least, I should be able to pay month by month rather than signing up for a year or more, and that way, if things don't work out, I have the flexibility to switch. Ditching cable broadband for good is not something everyone can do. It wholly depends on where you live, the coverage you actually get, and how much data is actually on offer. I'm lucky in the fact that unlimited data plans in the U.K. actually mean unlimited. There are no usage caps to worry about, and you won't find yourself getting throttled because you've used a little too much data within your allotted month. The fact is, I used just over 900GB of data over the course of these six weeks, and I know that kind of thing would not fly if you signed up for one of the best unlimited data plans in the U.S. Not to mention the fact that it would cost considerably more there, while switching to 5G (and providing my own hardware) isn't priced that differently from what I was paying for a fiber connection. Though that may reflect more on the fact that I may have been paying too much, rather than how cheap 5G broadband actually is. So don't go cancelling your internet plan just because I managed to go wireless without facing any serious repercussions. The last thing you need is to end up with a terrible connection without thinking through whether it's actually the best situation for you to be in. However, all I'm saying is that if you can get a stable and data-heavy mobile connection at home, the prospect of taking your home internet on the go isn't outside the realm of possibility.
