Are Bengals changing their minds about a Trey Hendrickson trade?
The vibe around a Trey Hendrickson trade for the Cincinnati Bengals has changed in a hurry.
Not all that long ago, such an idea was a non-starter. Why trade the reigning NFL sack leader and only elite portion of a defense undergoing a dramatic rebuild?
But one report recently listed Hendrickson as the possible "odd man out" if the Bengals get huge contract extensions done with Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
Now, The 33rd Team's Ari Meirov said during an appearance on the "Drop the Mic" podcast that he's starting to get a different sense of things about the situation with Hendrickson, too.
"To this point, they're very far apart," Meirov said. "A couple of weeks ago, I would have said there's no chance he gets traded. I think the possiblity's out there. If they're able to get a crazy, crazy offer for him, I think they'd be willing to listen. They don't want to trade him, they want to keep him, but now their ears are a little open, I would say."
Keep in mind that what's coming out right now could very much be one-sided leaks and leverage plays. A Hendrickson extension could happen at literally any point between now and free agency opening next week. Ditto for Chase and Higgins.
Still, where Hendrickson and his reps want to land in pay matters. Chase is going to get $40 million per year and Higgins could very well be at $30 million or more per year, too. Hendrickson should probably be up over that latter number, too, but the fact that he's now 30 years old will make the Bengals hesitant to go there.
Both Hendrickson and the Bengals have remained adamant they don't want to split, but it's likely other teams are at least weighing the idea of picking up the phone, just in case. As always, when it comes to blockbuster Bengals trades, they would have to win it in a landslide to actually make a deal happen.

Clemson Offers 2026 WR Devin Fitzgerald, Son of NFL Legend Larry Fitzgerald
Clemson Offers 2026 WR Devin Fitzgerald, Son of NFL Legend Larry Fitzgerald originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Clemson made a splash on the recruiting trail this weekend by offering 2026 wide receiver Devin Fitzgerald, the son of NFL icon Larry Fitzgerald. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound standout from Brophy College Prep in Phoenix, Arizona, announced the news on Saturday morning following a visit to Clemson's campus. Advertisement 'Excited to announce that I've been offered by Clemson University! Huge thanks to Coach Swinney for the great conversation and belief in me,' Fitzgerald posted on social media, signaling a key step forward in his recruitment. Fitzgerald's pedigree is no small part of the intrigue. His father, Larry Fitzgerald, was one of the most consistent and productive receivers in NFL history, playing 17 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and earning numerous accolades, including a Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2025. The elder Fitzgerald also starred at Pitt, where he finished as a Heisman runner-up—making Devin's recruitment a full-circle moment for college football fans. He led his high school team as a junior with 52 receptions for 720 yards and nine touchdowns. His offer list already includes Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Stanford, and Florida State. Advertisement Clemson currently holds three wide receiver commits in the 2026 class but may be seeking a fourth. Fitzgerald was the only wideout on campus during this official visit weekend, highlighting how seriously the Tigers are prioritizing him. With official visits still scheduled to Stanford, Notre Dame, UNC, and Arizona State—and a commitment announcement slated for July 5—the Tigers have positioned themselves well at the right time. Devin's recruitment is becoming one of the more fascinating storylines in the 2026 class—not only for his bloodline but for his growing résumé and the national interest he's generating on his own terms. Trevor Lawrence Staring Down Make-or-Break Season for Superstardom
Trevor Lawrence Staring Down Make-or-Break Season for Superstardom originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The clock is ticking. The hype, once deafening, has settled into a nervous murmur. Former Clemson Tiger quarterback and No. 1 overall draft pick Trevor Lawrence, the golden-armed quarterback once hailed as a generational talent, is heading into 2025 with more than just the weight of the Jacksonville Jaguars on his shoulders – he's carrying the burden of expectation, and one analyst believes this is the year he finally cashes in that superstar ticket. Advertisement Remember the pre-draft buzz? NFL Network's Lance Zierlein wasn't just optimistic back in 2021; he practically saw a bust being sculpted for Canton, calling Lawrence a player with an "extremely high ceiling and a floor as a very good player who will start for a long time." We've seen flashes, moments where that "Sunshine" moniker truly fit. Two straight 4,000-yard seasons had him climbing the QB power rankings. Then came last season. Thud. The Vikings defeated the Jaguars 12-7.© Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images A statistical freefall. Career lows in passing yards, games played (just 10), a paltry 11 touchdown passes, and a mere 119 yards on the ground. The momentum didn't just stop; it hit a brick wall at 100 mph. Advertisement But hope springs eternal in the NFL, especially when new toys arrive. Enter rookie speedster Brian Thomas Jr. and the electrifying two-way potential of Travis Hunter (assuming the Jags scheme him in on offense). The pieces are being assembled. Now, can Lawrence be the maestro? Stepping into the big chair for Rich Eisen, analyst Chris Brockman didn't mince words on The Rich Eisen Show. When dropping his "Top 5 NFL Players Poised to Become Superstars," Lawrence wasn't just on the list; he was the emphatic "one more option." "It's finally his time to take the leap to become a superstar in the NFL," Brockman declared, practically banging the table. "Trevor Lawrence, I'm not saying it's last chance, but we're getting close to being out of excuses and chances for Trevor." You hear that? That's the sound of the pressure cooker hissing. Advertisement Brockman continued, "It's really an opportunity now for Trevor Lawrence to take that leap that we all thought was coming when he was the first overall pick. We've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for Trevor to have his moment. I think this is the year that he could finally do it." And let's be real, Brockman's not wrong. The excuses have run dry. New weapons? Check. Football IQ? Reportedly off the charts. Leadership? The locker room looks to him. This isn't about potential anymore; it's about production. It's about transforming those tantalizing glimpses into sustained, game-dominating brilliance. As the Florida sun beats down on training camp, every throw, every decision, every sideline interaction from Lawrence will be under the microscope. The burning question isn't just if he can become who he was meant to be, but will he finally do it? The league is watching. Duval is waiting. Is 2025 the year Trevor Lawrence silences the doubters and ascends to the NFL's elite, or will it be another chapter in the "what if?" saga? Buckle up, because this season in Jacksonville is shaping up to be a referendum on their franchise quarterback. Hunter Renfrow Signs with Panthers—and This Bizarre NFL Pattern Points to a Super Bowl Run
Hunter Renfrow Signs with Panthers—and This Bizarre NFL Pattern Points to a Super Bowl Run originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When former Clemson Tigers star Hunter Renfrow signed with the Carolina Panthers this offseason, it was already a compelling storyline. But now, according to the crew over at Pardon My Take, Renfrow might be walking straight into a Super Bowl destiny. Advertisement During a recent episode of the popular Barstool Sports podcast, hosts Big Cat and PFT Commenter dove into a bizarre—and oddly convincing—statistical pattern that suggests Carolina is on a crash course for the biggest game in football. It's the kind of thing that sounds too weird to be true, but when laid out, it becomes almost eerie. The theory originally came from a Panthers-focused podcast—likely the 'OVs and Giglo' show, as PFT jokingly mispronounced it. It starts with Ohio State winning the national championship in college football. That has happened in three key years: 2002, 2014, and 2024. Each time, a strange NFL pattern has followed involving the Panthers. Here's the sequence: 2002: Ohio State wins the national title. The Panthers finish with a losing record. The following year (2003), they open the NFL season against the Jaguars and go to the Super Bowl. 2014: Ohio State wins again. The Panthers finish with a losing record. The next season (2015), they open against Jacksonville—and again go to the Super Bowl. 2024: Ohio State just won the national championship. The Panthers had a losing season. And in 2025, they open the year… against the Jaguars. Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Hunter Renfrow (13) warms up prior to the game against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium.© Gregory Fisher-Imagn Images Coincidence? The Pardon My Take guys don't think so. And it doesn't stop there. Advertisement PFT Commenter added another wrinkle—Jennifer Lopez's divorces. In each of those same years, filed for divorce: from Cris Judd in 2002, from Marc Anthony in 2014, and now in 2024, from Ben Affleck. If you're a Panthers fan, this is the kind of cosmic alignment that screams team of destiny. The joke may have started with a DM labeled the 'Tarek Skubal envelope' (a callback to a past sports prediction), but the trend is real enough to have fans placing futures bets. Now add Renfrow to the mix—a reliable slot receiver known for clutch catches and playoff moments—and suddenly, this feels less like internet nonsense and more like a prophecy in the making. He's already shown he can deliver in big moments. If the pattern holds, Renfrow may soon be doing it on the biggest stage of them all.
