Police to reopen investigation into 2013 death of tahfiz student Wan Ahmad Faris
He said the police had no obstacle to doing so because the investigation file for the case in 2013 was complete.
"The case of Faris (Wan Ahmad Faris) was in 2013, and the inquest decision was in 2016. What was the inquest's decision? He was found hanging, and there was third-party involvement... that's why the family is now pushing to review the case.
"I want to say this, yes... the police will reopen the investigation papers (Wan Ahmad Faris), that have been completed, however at that time (2013) the DPP (Deputy Public Prosecutor) stated that there would be 'no further action' in the case.
"I have discussed with the Criminal Investigation Department director what is preventing us from reviewing the investigation papers. The police said there is no problem reopening the investigation papers because they are complete," he said when winding up the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) motion for the ministry in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
On Monday, the family of the late Wan Ahmad Faris submitted a letter to Bukit Aman police requesting them to reopen the investigation file into the death of the tahfiz student.
In December 2013, Wan Ahmad Faris, who was also a Form Four student, was found hanging in the dormitory toilet of Maahad Tahfiz Sains Nurul Aman, Kok Lanas in Kelantan.
His body was reportedly found by the dormitory supervisor after detecting a foul odour from the toilet.
Forensic experts who performed an autopsy on Wan Ahmad Faris's body confirmed the case as a sudden death unrelated to criminal elements.
However, the Coroner's Court in June 2016 ruled that Wan Ahmad Faris' death was caused by the actions of an unknown individual.

‘It sounded like missile strikes': Witnesses describe explosions and flames during RMAF Hornet incident at Kuantan air base
KUANTAN, Aug 22 — Loud explosions resembling missile strikes were clearly heard around Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport (Kuantan Air Base), said one of the witnesses to the incident involving a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) F/A-18D Hornet fighter jet last night. 'When I later saw on social media that a jet was involved in an incident, I still did not go to see because my wife and I thought it was just a military exercise. Sometimes the army does training here, so we're used to hearing such sounds,' he said. He added that his neighbours in Pandan Perdana also came out of their homes immediately after the blasts to check on the situation. Earlier, an RMAF F/A-18D Hornet fighter jet was involved in an incident at the runway area of Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport (Kuantan Air Base) at 9.05pm. LOS ANGELES, Aug 22 — The father of Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown is facing an attempted murder charge after allegedly stabbing a man in a parking lot altercation in Las Vegas, authorities and US media said yesterday, Las Vegas Metro Police said Quenton Marselles Brown, 57, was arrested and booked into Clark County Detention Center in the wake of the Wednesday incident. He made his first court appearance on Thursday, when his bail was set at $300,000. According to a police report obtained by Las Vegas-based News 3, witnesses told police that the argument started when Brown 'dinged' the door of a neighboring car as he exited his own sports utility vehicle. The report alleges Brown stabbed the victim multiple times after his back was turned, the victim suffering wounds to his back, his upper right chest and a defensive wound to his hand. The victim was hospitalized. Police apprehended Brown, a Las Vegas resident, some time after he had fled the scene. In an interview with News 3, Brown's attorney Arnold Weinstock said his client 'was trying to defend himself' and that the $300,000 bond was 'excessive.' Umno supporters rally outside Bukit Mertajam court ahead of Youth chief Akmal Saleh's charge over Facebook post
SEBERANG PERAI, Aug 22 — A small group of Umno supporters have started gathering outside the Magistrate's Court in Bukit Mertajam here from 7.30am this morning, to support party Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh. The group of over 100 stood outside the courthouse and held up banners with the words 'Solidariti buat Dr Akmal Saleh'. The group, some holding large Jalur Gemilang, later accompanied Dr Akmal on a short march towards the courthouse at about 8.20am. There was a heavy police presence in the surrounding areas of the courthouse, most of them arriving at around 6am anticipating the crowd. The gates to the courthouse were also closed and only staff members, lawyers, media and those with pending cases in the court were allowed to enter. Everyone entering the premises were individually scanned before being allowed in. Dr Akmal will be charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code at the magistrate's court today. Section 505(b) handles those causing fear or alarm to the public, and to induce them to commit an offence against public order. If convicted, a person can be punished with a prison term up to two years, a fine, or both. The Attorney General's Chambers previously said Dr Akmal will be charged over one of his Facebook posts, but did not specify which. Last week, Dr Akmal said he was called by the federal police to give his statement over the protest he led on the display of Jalur Gemilang in Kepala Batas, Penang. The AGC had previously warned Malaysians against vigilantism in cases involving the improper display of the Jalur Gemilang, amid furore over the Umno Youth protest.
