'Wapas Track Pe Aaja': Prithvi Shaw Recalls Sachin Tendulkar's Advice
Last Updated:
Shaw made his last appearance for India at the highest level in July 2021 against Sri Lanka during a T20I match played at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Prithvi Shaw, who became the youngest batter to score a century on Test debut for India in October 2018, was seen as the next big thing in international cricket. But the right-handed batter from Mumbai failed to live up to the billing. He, in fact, hasn't played for India since July 2021 and even went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction as well last year.
Shaw, who has made headlines for all the wrong reasons in the past couple of years, revealed a piece of advice he received from batting great Sachin Tendulkar.
According to Shaw, Tendulkar is one of the few people who reached out to him and shared valuable advice.
'Sachin sir knows about my journey. Arjun and I have been friends since we were 8-9 years old. We've played together and grown up together. Sir was also there sometimes. I had a word with him a little while ago too. Hardly 2 months ago. He was practicing at the MIG. And I was there too. I spoke to him then too. When things go awry and you drift away, you need that mentor, who can light a spark in you. He still believes in me. He said, 'Prithvi, I still believe in you, and I'll continue to do so.' Because he has seen me grow up. Even today, he tells me, ' Sahi track pe aa ja, jaise pehle tha ' (Come back on the same track as earlier). Everything is possible in the next 13-14 years. So he believes in me, and that means a lot," Shaw told News24.
Shaw has played five Tests, six ODIs, and one T20I for India, apart from making 79 appearances for Delhi Capitals in the cash-rich Indian Premier League. The former India U-19 captain last played a competitive match for Mumbai in December last year.
Shaw, who has captained Mumbai in domestic cricket in the past, earlier this week ended his ties with Mumbai after being granted a No Objection Certificate by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to sign up with a new domestic side for his 'growth and development as a cricketer."
In the letter that Shaw sent to the MCA, the 25-year-old said he was grateful for the time he spent in the Mumbai team, for which he made his debut in 2017, but desires to move on now.
