US-Pakistan landmark deal to enhance growing cooperation: PM Shehbaz
'I wish to convey my profound thanks to President Trump for his leadership role in finalization of the historic US-Pakistan trade agreement, successfully concluded by our two sides in Washington, last night,' the PM wrote on his official social media X.
'This landmark deal will enhance our growing cooperation so as to expand the frontiers of our enduring partnership in days to come.'
The PM's statement comes after the US president announced that his administration struck a deal with Pakistan in which Washington would work with Islamabad in developing the South Asian nation's oil reserves.
'We have just concluded a Deal with the Country of Pakistan, whereby Pakistan and the United States will work together on developing their massive Oil Reserves,' Trump wrote on social media.
'We are in the process of choosing the Oil Company that will lead this Partnership. Who knows, maybe they'll be selling Oil to India some day!'
Pakistan faced a potential 29% tariff on exports to the United States under tariffs announced by Washington in April on countries around the world. Tariffs were subsequently suspended for 90 days so negotiations could take place.

Chairing a high-level meeting on the flood situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), the premier said recent rains have led to tragic incidents across the country, particularly in AJK and G-B, resulting in significant human and financial losses. 'The federal government stands with the governments, administrations, and people of AJK and G-B during this difficult time,' he said, announcing that he would soon visit the flood-hit areas of G-B to express solidarity. He added a federal relief package would also be announced to compensate for the damages 'as much as possible.' He also ordered immediate restoration of communication infrastructure, particularly roads, damaged by the floods. It is pertinent to mention that the G-B government has declared 37 flood-affected areas as calamity-hit zones and imposed an emergency to manage the crisis. Meanwhile, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik briefed the meeting on the nationwide impact of the monsoon season and upcoming weather forecasts for the region. More than 1,600 homes have been completely destroyed, while 376 livestock deaths have also been reported. He warned that rivers and streams were experiencing severe pressure due to continuous rainfall. Low-level flooding is anticipated in Tarbela, Chashma, Taunsa, and Kalabagh, while medium-level flooding is likely at Marala and Guddu on the Chenab River. Lt Gen Malik further cautioned that the monsoon season was expected to intensify towards the end of the month. 'NDMA is undertaking comprehensive preparations to ensure that effective preventive and relief measures are in place,' he told the meeting.

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said Friday that he had ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines in response to 'highly provocative' comments by a senior Russian official. 'Based on the highly provocative statements of the Former President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev…, I have ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that,' Trump posted on his Truth Social platform. 'Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences, I hope this will not be one of those instances.' Trump did not say whether he meant nuclear-powered or nuclear-armed submarines. He also did not elaborate on the locations, which are kept secret by the US military. The United States and Russia control the vast majority of the world's nuclear weaponry, and Washington keeps nuclear-armed submarines on patrol as part of its so-called nuclear triad of land, sea and air-launched weapons. Trump sets new deadline of 10 or 12 days for Russia to act on Ukraine Trump did not refer specifically to what Medvedev had said to prompt the highly unusual public display of nuclear saber-rattling.
