Notre Dame Impact Players for 2025: No. 49 Jordan Botelho
Notre Dame is now 49 days away from kicking off the 2025 season against the Hurricanes down in Hard Rock Stadium. The Irish will be relying on some impact players to get them through the home opener as well as getting them back to another run at the National Championship. I broke down who I believe will be the top 50 impactful players for Notre Dame this season. Let's continue this countdown to kickoff with my No. 49 most impactful player, defensive end Jordan Botelho.

Botelho is another player who was injured this offseason in June in an off campus workout. The Honolulu, Hawaii native is going on his sixth season in South Bend and was off to his best start in an Irish uniform last season before suffering a season ending knee injury in week three. Botelho has, once again, been set back by another injury on his road to recovery, but the skillset he has and the experience he's racked up makes him a valuable asset to this 2025 Fighting Irish defense.
What He Brings To The Table
Botelho has yet to live up to his recruiting hype when he stepped foot on campus as a freshman in 2020. The 6-3 260 pound edge rusher has shown flashes of his raw athleticism and will be looking to put that all together when he returns, hopefully in October or November. He's twitchy off the edge and has shown his abilities as a more than capable pass rusher and an edge setter against the run.
Botelho brings a lot of experience in big games along with him and has played against USC, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, Ohio State and Clemson just to name a few. His 794 career snaps rivals any returning player along the defensive line. The biggest question for Botelho is the level of athleticism he retained after suffered a lower body and upper body injury within a calendar year.

What Is His Impact?
As of right now, his timeline to return will be at some point towards the end of the regular season, but with another playoff run expected from this unit, Botelho will have his opportunity to work his way back into the rotation and potentially the starting lineup. Notre Dame's defensive line was decimated by injuries last season, and the edge players are relatively inexperienced heading into this season.
While he's working on his return to the field, Botelho's impact will be felt as a mentor to players like Bryce Young, Loghan Thomas and Cole Mullins who is expected to take on a bigger role this season. He is one of only two sixth year seniors on this team and the only one of defense. Defensive line coach Al Washington will be relying on him to be an extension of himself throughout fall camp, on the practice field and on Saturdays.
When he returns, Botelho will give you an immediate boost in depth and experience. He will have to replicate his performance against Texas A&M from the 2024 season opener as a pass rusher in critical moments down the stretch. Notre Dame's defensive ends also struggled setting the edge against the run at times last season; Botelho will have to own that role as well pending his return. His injury history has been unfortunate, but his experience, talent and potential is what makes Botelho my No. 49 most impactful player for Notre Dame in 2025.

Archie Manning seems confident that Arch will want to run it back for his senior year before he is ready for the NFL Draft. 'Arch isn't going to do that,' Archie Manning said, according to Texas Monthly. 'He'll be at Texas.' If Manning wants to, he will more than likely have the chance to enter the 2026 NFL Draft after this season. The hype surrounding him has been incredibly loud since before he arrived at Texas, and he would've been the starting QB for 99% of college football programs last year. The talent is there, but it will still be interesting to see how he handles full-time starting duties. Arch Manning and the Texas football team are starting off the 2025 season with a bang as the Longhorns will hit the road to take on Ohio State. Manning's first game as the true QB1 for Texas, and it's on the road against the defending national champions. That game is going to be far from easy, and we will learn a lot about where Manning is at. That is going to be must-watch television. The Texas football program is currently preparing for the upcoming 2025 college football season, in which they will try to hoist their first national championship trophy in the modern era. Texas will be led by quarterback Arch Manning, who played some last year but now is the full time starter after the departure of Quinn Ewers. On Monday, the season's first AP Poll came out, and the Longhorns were sitting atop the college football world according to the organization, being ranked number one overall in the nation (per On3 Sports on X, formerly Twitter). Behind Texas were the Penn State Nittany Lions, followed by the reigning national champion Ohio State Buckeyes, and then the Clemson Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs. Last year, it was Ohio State that did Texas in during the playoff en route to their championship victory, but the Longhorns are returning a good chunk of their talent from a season ago and have a Heisman trophy contender in Manning under center. Manning of course is the nephew of NFL Hall of Famers Peyton and Eli Manning and showcased the talent that made him one of the most sought-after quarterback prospects in the nation during his brief time playing for Texas last year, including some great running ability that he clearly did not inheret from his uncles as well as improved downfield accuracy from his days as a high school quarterback. Overall, Texas figures to have one of the deepest rosters in the college football landscape, and are looking to finally break through and win a national title after two straight seasons exiting in the football equivalent of the Final Four. In any case, the Texas football program will have an immediate test to open up their 2025 season with a road game against the reigning champion Ohio State Buckeyes in a rematch of last year's playoff matchup. The USC football is just a couple of weeks away from kicking off its 2025 college football campaign — and the program's fourth season under head coach Lincoln Riley. But there are still roster decisions to be made for the Trojans, including on the right tackle position, which has the third-year sophomore Tobias Raymond and second-year freshman Justin Tauanuu still battling for the spot atop the depth chart. '[Tobias] and Justin are both playing well,' Riley said, per R.J. Abeytia of 247Sports. 'They're both playing well. And obviously depending on what happens with [DJ] Wingfield, both of those guys have some position flex as well. Both of those guys are firmly right there in that top group. No question, I'd say Tobias has continued where he left off in spring, but we thought Justin was good in spring. He's been even better in camp. I feel like he's really made a move and is playing at a high level right now.' As mentioned by Riley, another offensive line matter that he is concerned with is the one that involves offensive lineman DJ Wingfield, whose eligibility for the 2025 season is still up in the air. Wingfield transferred to USC football after the 2024 campaign from the Purdue Boilermakers, but he doesn't have eligibility to play at the moment. He has reportedly taken his case with the NCAA to the court, though it's unclear whether that will get settled in time for the Trojans' season-opener on Aug. 30 against the Missouri State Bears at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles. After two weeks of fall camp, there seems to be more work to be done by both Raymond and Tauanuu in order for each to prove he's the better option to start over the other. From an experience standpoint, Raymond has played a total of 15 games for USC football, while Tauanuu only has three games under his belt, to date. USC football is coming off a 7-6 season in 2024, and while they did not make the College Football Playoff, the Trojans have won their second bowl game in a row, topping the Texas A&M Aggies at the SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl.
