Jaishankar explored opportunities in semiconductors, AI, Green Hydrogen with Netherlands
New Delhi [India], May 20 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar concluded a successful two-day official visit to the Netherlands from May 19 - 20, underscoring the strategic partnership between the two nations.
The visit featured high-level meetings with top Dutch leadership, including Prime Minister Dick Schoof and Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp. It focused on strengthening cooperation across various sectors, from trade, technology and defence.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement on Tuesday, 'External Affairs Minister (EAM), Dr S Jaishankar, paid an official visit to the Netherlands from 19-20 May 2025. During the visit, EAM called on HE Dick Schoof, Prime Minister of the Netherlands. Both sides expressed satisfaction at the growing strategic convergences in the India-Netherlands relationship, and agreed further to strengthen bilateral ties through regular high-level visits and exchanges. EAM conveyed India's appreciation for the statement of solidarity from the Netherlands in the fight against terrorism'
EAM Jaishankar met with his counterpart, Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp, and reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral cooperation and regional and global matters of mutual interest.
'The Ministers expressed satisfaction over the progress in diverse sectors, including trade & economy, science and technology, water, agriculture and health, education, culture and people-to-people ties. They also discussed ways of increasing collaboration in new and emerging sectors of digital technology, semiconductors, AI, and green hydrogen,' the statement said.
EAM Jaishankar also met with Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans and discussed opportunities to take forward the defence and security cooperation between the two countries to the next level. The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in the defence sector further.
The MEA further said, 'EAM also addressed leading strategic and international affairs experts from various think tanks in the Netherlands. The discussions focused on why India and the Netherlands/EU should engage more deeply in an era of multipolarity and strategic autonomy.'
During the visit, EAM also interacted with representatives of the Indian diaspora in the Netherlands.
'EAM's visit, coming within a month of the visit of Minister Caspar Veldkamp to India in April 2025, reflects the commitment of both sides for regular and sustained engagement between the two countries, and has led to further deepening of bilateral ties,' the statement added.
EAM Jaishankar is on an official visit to the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany from May 19 to 24. (ANI)

India, China to fast-track process for resuming direct air services
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held talks with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong during which the two sides reviewed the developments in India-China bilateral relations and agreed to continue to "stabilise and rebuild ties" with priority on people-centric engagements, the MEA said on Friday. The meeting took place on Thursday and the two sides also agreed to expedite steps involved in resuming direct air services between the two countries. Misri had held talks with Sun earlier on January 27 in Beijing. Sun is on a visit to India from June 12-13, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. During the meeting on Thursday, "the two sides reviewed the developments in India-China bilateral relations since their last meeting in Beijing on January 27, 2025 and agreed to continue to stabilise and rebuild ties with priority on people-centric engagements", the MEA said. The foreign secretary appreciated the Chinese side's cooperation for the resumption of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra this year. He noted the discussion in the April meeting of the Expert Level Mechanism for cooperation in trans-border rivers for resumption of provision of hydrological data and other cooperation, and hoped for progress on them, the MEA said. "The two sides agreed to expedite steps involved in resuming direct air services between the two countries. Foreign Secretary hoped for the early conclusion of an updated Air Services Agreement," it said. India and China further agreed to take "practical steps" for visa facilitation and exchanges between media and think-tanks. "The two sides positively assessed the activities planned under the 75th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and China and agreed to facilitate the same," the statement added.

NEW DELHI: An Air India flight from London to New Delhi had just entered Iranian airspace when Israel launched a wave of missile strikes on Iran's military and nuclear sites. The flight was rerouted over Iraq before arriving in India one hour late, according to an AFP report. Among those affected were services between India and cities like London, Toronto, and New York. Aircraft tracking site Flight Aware showed that two other Air India flights — from Delhi to Vienna and Mumbai to London — were nearing Iranian airspace and turned back to their origin airports shortly after the strikes began. In a statement, Air India said: 'Due to the emerging situation in Iran, the subsequent closure of its airspace and in view of the safety of our passengers, the following Air India flights are either being diverted or returning to their origin.
