India, China to fast-track process for resuming direct air services
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held talks with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong during which the two sides reviewed the developments in India-China bilateral relations and agreed to continue to "stabilise and rebuild ties" with priority on people-centric engagements, the MEA said on Friday.
The meeting took place on Thursday and the two sides also agreed to expedite steps involved in resuming direct air services between the two countries.
Misri had held talks with Sun earlier on January 27 in Beijing.
Sun is on a visit to India from June 12-13, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
During the meeting on Thursday, "the two sides reviewed the developments in India-China bilateral relations since their last meeting in Beijing on January 27, 2025 and agreed to continue to stabilise and rebuild ties with priority on people-centric engagements", the MEA said.
The foreign secretary appreciated the Chinese side's cooperation for the resumption of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra this year.
He noted the discussion in the April meeting of the Expert Level Mechanism for cooperation in trans-border rivers for resumption of provision of hydrological data and other cooperation, and hoped for progress on them, the MEA said.
"The two sides agreed to expedite steps involved in resuming direct air services between the two countries. Foreign Secretary hoped for the early conclusion of an updated Air Services Agreement," it said.
India and China further agreed to take "practical steps" for visa facilitation and exchanges between media and think-tanks.
"The two sides positively assessed the activities planned under the 75th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and China and agreed to facilitate the same," the statement added.

The Indian side reaffirmed its support for China's Shanghai Cooperation Organization presidency. The two sides agreed to jointly make preparations for the 24th Special Representatives' Meeting on China-India Boundary Question, which will be held at an appropriate time. The two sides will continue to hold commemorative activities for the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, push for the resumption of direct flights and exchange of resident journalists at an early date, facilitate people-to-people exchanges, resume bilateral dialogue mechanisms steadily, and ensure Indian pilgrims' smooth visit to Mount Gang Rinpoche and Lake Mapam Yun Tso in the Xizang Autonomous Region of China, as per the statement. PM Modi conveys need for early restoration of peace in region over call with Israel PM
New Delhi [India], June 14 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a telephone call from the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, a statement from the Prime Minister's Office stated. Netanyahu briefed PM Modi on the recent developments and the evolving situation between Israel and Iran. PM Modi shared India's concern and emphasised the need for early restoration of peace and stability in the region. The two leaders agreed to remain in touch, the statement added. In a post on X, PM Modi shared the details of the call in the wake of Operation Rising Lion launched by Tel Aviv against Iran. 'Received a phone call from PM Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel. He briefed me on the evolving situation. I shared India's concerns and emphasised the need for early restoration of peace and stability in the region.' Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar received a call from the Foreign Affairs Minister of Israel, Gideon Sa'ar. In a post on X, he said, 'Received a call this afternoon from FM Gideon Sa'ar of Israel regarding ongoing developments.' India had earlier in the day expressed its deep concern at the recent developments between Iran and Israel. 'We are closely monitoring the evolving situation, including reports related to attacks on nuclear sites,' the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. India urged both sides to avoid any escalatory steps and expressed its willingness to offer all possible support. 'Existing channels of dialogue and diplomacy should be utilised to work towards a de-escalation of the situation and resolving underlying issues. India enjoys close and friendly relations with both the countries and stands ready to extend all possible support,' the statement said. Earlier on Friday, the Israel Defence Force (IDF) said Israel has launched a 'precise, preemptive strike' in Iran.
