Man Dressed as Medieval Knight in Critical Condition After He's Stabbed Through 'His Visor' During Reenactment, Say Police
In an incident police are calling an "accident," a 37-year-old man dressed as a knight was engaged in a mock fight with another reenactor when a sword went through his visor
The man is currently in "serious condition" in a local hospital, according to policeA historic demonstration went wrong in England over the weekend.
Visitors at Bodiam Castle in Sussex, were watching a combat demonstration between two male reenactors on Sunday, June 29, when one man sustained a serious injury.
According to a press release from the Sussex Police, an unidentified 37-year-old man from Horsham, England, was wearing body armor when his opponent's sword 'entered his visor during a combat re-enactment.'
The man 'suffered a head injury and is currently in a serious condition at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton,' Sussex Police shared.
Detective Inspector Barry Chandler said the man was 'unfortunately injured,' but added, 'We are treating the incident as an accident, and we are offering support to his family. His opponent, a 36-year-old man also from Horsham, and the organizers are helping us with our enquiries.'
According to Detective Inspector Chandler, the reenactment 'had drawn a large crowd' who witnessed the incident.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed or taken photographs or videos of the exchange to contact them 'so we can gain a clear understanding of what happened.'
A witness to the event told the Daily Mail, 'It had been a really thrilling fight reenactment and then suddenly it went catastrophically wrong. It was clear the man was very seriously injured and people were very shocked. Some kids were in tears. It was quite upsetting for everyone who was there.'
Bodlam Castle is part of the National Trust, a U.K.-based conservation charity that cares for over 500 historic properties, gardens, and nature reserves around the country. The castle itself was built around 1385 by Sir Edward Dallingridge and his wife Elizabeth.
Sometime between the 15th and 17th centuries, the castle fell into disrepair before becoming a popular spot for visitors in the 18th century, a tradition that continues to this day. Bodlam has also been seen on the big screen in films like 1975's Monty Python and the Holy Grail and 2023's Wonka.

Kenneth Colley, the British actor who appeared in seven features for director Ken Russell and portrayed the Darth Vader underling Admiral Piett in the Star Wars films The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, has died. He was 87. Colley died Monday at his Ashford home in Kent, England, of complications from COVID and pneumonia, his agent Julian Owen announced. 'But I got a call from my agent saying there's been a lot of fan mail about this character and George [Lucas] has decided to put him in the next one, do you want to do it?' he recalled in a 2008 interview. 'I said sure, yeah. Who wouldn't?' He returned to play Piett once more in the 2012 animated telefilm Lego Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out. Born in Manchester on Dec. 7, 1937, Colley began his professional acting career in 1961 and went to perform for London's Old Vic, The Royal Court Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Also in the 1960s, he showed up on episodes of The Avengers, Coronation Street and Emergency-Ward 10 and in such films as How I Won the War (1967) and Oh! What a Lovely War (1968). Other notable roles included the Duke of Vienna in Shakespeare's Measure for Measure for the BBC in 1979; a Soviet colonel in Clint Eastwood's Firefox (1982); Adolf Eichmann in the 1985 NBC telefilm Wallenberg: A Hero's Story; a Nazi in the 1988-89 ABC miniseries War and Remembrance; the pirate Ben Gunn on the 1986 Disney Channel miniseries Return to Treasure Island; and a crime boss on the BBC's Peaky Blinders in 2016. 'Star Wars' Actor Kenneth Colley Dies At 87
Kenneth Colley, best known for starring as Admiral Piett in the original 'Star Wars' series and 'Jesus in Monty Python's Life of Brian,' died on June 30. He was 87. The British actor died at his home in Kent, England, after contracting Covid and developing pneumonia, according to multipleoutlets.
